so.... i'm thinking about getting me one of the new Blades. i learnt to kite with a mk I 3.3m, and later owned a mk II 3m so am fully aware of the capabilities of these things.

am currently flying 10 and 13m venoms for landboarding but want something for lower wind- when the 13m won't launch / is falling out the sky.

i'm only 55kg / 8stone10 so don't wanna go too OTT with a large kite that i can't hold onto. although once i was comfortable with flying it i would be looking to fly hooked in so may be able to hold down a little more power that way

what size would you recommend ?

i have a blade III 6.6 and fantastic and cheaper, it is good in 5mph winds and brilliant in any larger winds!

the 4.9 is good, but you canm get bored with it so the 6.6 is a fantasic choice, go for the blade III's as they are much better!

i love blades and they have amazing feel to them!

(if you have the choice go for handles, the bar is rubbish, turns slow and you cant get much power, the handles you can use the brakes so it turns as fast as a small kite wich is fantastic!)

was deffos thinking handles as have flown fixed bridle kites on both handles and bars and hate the lack of control you get from using a bar. used to use my Pepper 4.5 with handles/strop/pulley/QR to my seat harness and it worked brilliantly :-D

havn't tried with my waist harness- i might not be able to reach... hmmm will have to try that one

any other thoughts than 6.6 III / 6.5 IV ????

if you want it for low wind, obviously the 6.5 will be the best option....

but you can also get going with the 4.9 in 10mph on a board quite easy

so if you got the 4.9 you'd have a big wind range

the mk iv's are much nicer to fly than the iii's...and you can depower them and reduce the lift if the winds a bit mental

thanks, that's exactly what i was hoping/expecting someone would say

4.9 iv it is then

The 8.5m isn't that slow, but I would say you were better off with a 6.5m BIV. You'll be able to work it better in the lighter winds due to it's faster turning speed.

To be honest, I think it will be better for you than a 4.9m. I'm the same weight as you and know that by the time the 6.5m has got too much to cling onto, then the 13m will do me nicely. If you get the 4.9m then you wont get the same light wind performance and it will overlap too much with you 13m.

I vote for the 6.5m ;)

if 's purely gonna be low wind, still think the 6.5 is your best bet.....from 7mph-20mph, it's the best fixed bridle kite on the market

if it's a kite you want to fly most often then i reckon go with the 4.9

I would advise the 6.5 blade iv, i weigh a little bit more than you and use mine in winds from about 5mph (just about flying) up to about 15mph, I could hold it down in stronger winds if I use a harness with it, (which I'm not keen on doing) more than that and I'm flying depower.

If you're on a budget you could get a 6.6 blade iii and add the AAA bridle kit, my mate has done this and it does work well but his kite doesn't turn as quick as the b iv cos it has no cross bridles.
