  1. There's a caravan site at South Shore run by the council. Also a lot of people on the holiday park will let their chalets. Just wander around and you'll see loads to let. Anyone up this weekend - wind looks a bit pants?
  2. Tell it to the dogs:). I keep as far away from them as possible. I haven't had a problem buggying but the damn things seem attracted to my 4 yr old son and rush up to lick him. The owners always seem to take the stance "don't worry, he's very good with kids". Yeah, until the first time it isn't! The dog ban at the Brid end runs from 1st May doesn't it?
  3. There seems to have been an exponential increase in the number of dogs on the beach this year. Has anyone else noticed this and has anyone had a problem? I got chased by a stupid little yappy thing a couple of weeks ago but that's been about it.
  4. Cold.... brrrrrrrr, Who was the brave chap kitesurfing on Sun afternoon? It was p*ss*ng down and freezing.
  5. Interesting responses. Dazza, I'm surprised about the remarks about lift - I never felt in any danger of being hoisted but I surpose enough wind will always get one up! Chris, I didn't find that adding brake helped. I did have the power rings on and tried creasing the trailing edge but it didn't seem to make much difference. Mind you, by this time I was going so fast that I was feeling in need of a nappy! I REALLY need a few tips. Redcar looks closer every day. "the buggy didn't even realise I'd left and carried on without me" LOL
  6. Finally got the chance to buggy with the 4m at the weekend. Just to paint the picture, I'm a relative newbie buggier but have been flying power kites for about 18 months or so. This probably won't be of much interest to the more experienced but there may be those who are considering the couch potato option! The kite is very well made; up there with Flexi/Ozone in terms of quality and looks the business. Launched in about 12-15mph (feeling slightly overpowered) and I was amazed at how well behaved this kite was. It went where it was told to go and did what I expected BUT I felt there was a background "power beast" awaiting something. I can only describe it as a feeling of unleashed power sitting and growling in the background. My brother who flies but doesn't buggy (yet) agreed. Then I got into the buggy. Bl**dy hell, this kite is built for buggying. I accelerated like stink and kept accelerating way beyond my comfort zone. No feeling that I was going to be hoisted (Blade 4.9 problem), just traction beyond the 4m expectation. Fortunately, it is so well behaved that coming to a gentle halt was not beyond my abilities. Frankly, even thinking about turning at that silly speed was laughable. Basically a big up for U-Turn, great kite at a great price. If you want traction without too much lift give them a look.
  7. That'll be the extra caffeine brew then Tobz. Frankly, couldn't agree more - we're becoming an emasculated nation of litigation happy, blame culture obsessed tw*ts. Time to stop it - but how? Get this, Harrogate Council are going to close all the paddling pools in Harrogate because some d1ckhead from the HSE told them they were a potential threat unless they instituted water recycling and filtering facilities at each pool. Cost for doing this runs into hundreds of thousands of pounds so the council plan on closing them. Kids have been using these pools for years; number of serious infections resulting - none I'm aware of. They'd be better arresting the young sods who hang around the parks at night drinking and throwing glass in the pools. Sorry - threadjack/rant over.
  8. This might help: http://www.racekites.com/reviews/getReview.asp?reviewID=360 Chris B is the Oxigen Pro man. Take a look at some of his past posts.
  9. I tend to buggy between South Shore and Fraisthorpe. I would say it's not a good idea to have a power kite up any nearer to Brid than the Kite Shack (northernmost point of South Shore Holiday Village) especially during the Summer as there are too many families with kids.
  10. Also very, very cold this afternoon.
  11. Hi, I'm a buggy noob and use mainly a 3.5 Bullet at the moment so you should be fine. I found the advice on the x-zone site really useful and very readable: http://www.x-zone.co.uk/how2.php?pagename=Buggying&PHPSESSID=c5fd130f9ac1a7c6002a3569a2c5da4b Have fun. PS: Ignore Sand Yeti's advice above and you will experience the joys of the OBE.
  12. Actually got as far as setting kite up then picked up handles and thought: "If I launch this, I end up in the sea". Packed up and went for a very windy walk.....
  13. Planning a visit Sun am. The last couple of times I've been down the wind was well below what what was forecast. Packing the LD 2.1 and a Sainsbury bag though.
  14. Ho hum, shall we just stick with this? I must try and buggy as far as Fraisy someday (crap at it at the moment). I can't believe it's any different from Southshore.
  15. That's more like it. I was there for early doors today. Cross beach wind and incoming tide made the buggy a potentially wet place to be. Had an amusing time with my sister. She fancied a go on the buggy so I took her down to the beach and gave her the LD 2.1. Blew her socks off and reminded me what I felt like when I first picked up a traction kite. She agreed that it would be best to wait before she tries the buggy .
  16. Metcheck seems to be OK but can be utter pants on wind speed. As others have said, just go and take all kites.
  17. Well there was someone boarding up at Fraisthorpe when I arrived at South Shore at about 8.50am. Wind was a bit on/off but got a couple of good blats in the buggy. Chased by 2 bl***y dogs - is there such a thing as dog repellent spray?
  18. Jon, This may not be terribly helpful but I have been having exactly the same problem. The answer, I discovered last week, was that I was not flying across the wind. It's really easy to end up bombing downwind at enormous velocity but then you can't get back. Try marking a shortish run across the wind (couple of sticks 200 metres apart) and then aim for your marks. I found this really useful. Also taught me how to turn - plan it before you do it! I'm a complete buggy newby so I would be interested to hear how you get on. Pete
  19. Where do you fly cb, Fraisthorpe or South Shore? If I make it I'll be the guy falling out of the buggy (totally softcore!).
  20. Anyone going this weekend? Tides are a pain but I'm umming and ahhing about an early morning jaunt on Sun.
  21. Thanks very much for the advice one and all. I hadn't really thought about the more "specialised" kites, mainly because I don't know much about them. However, I can't see myself doing a lot of non-buggy flying now so it would seem sensible to get a kite that's designed for the job. Time to hone up the buggy skills, count the pennies and blag a go on a few kites methinks. Cheers Pete
  22. Chris, You do realise that this is all your fault! I plan on popping up to Redcar one of these days (when I'm not a total embarrassment in the buggy) so hopefully see you there. Mee, Thanks, a bit of food for thought there. The Good Dr, Thanks. Someone else suggested a Beamer - these seem cheap as chips. Any views? Pete
  23. Hi, I would appreciate some advice. Present situation is that I am the proud owner of a new (well, second hand) V-Max buggy. I am new to buggying but have been traction kiting for about 12 months and own a LD 2.1, a Bullet 3.5 and a Blade 3 4.9. Have only been out three or four times in the buggy using the Bullet and LD and really enjoyed myself. I am looking at my options for lower winds - basically the Blade makes me rather nervous as it does tend to hoist one skywards and I suspect this might be a bit serious at speed. I am not interested in buggy jumping. So...... is buggying with a Blade a sensible option or would I be better trading it in and going for a larger Bullet (eg 5.5) or something else? If something else, what would you recommend? I would have to lose the Blade as cash is a bit tight at the moment (actually, my wife will have a fit if I spend any more on kites) Cheers Pete
