  1. I,m trying to sell my PL COMP XR (see for sale section) and have bought a second hand EXIT mountain board (thanks greg.h). I was hoping you lot could give me me some starter tips. I have all the safety gear and have been flying for a couple of years on and off. I surf and skate board but discovered the bindings on the mountain board point heels in which is different from surfing and skate boarding where my front foot points forward. How easy is it to get used to?
  2. any help on the above question?
  3. can anyone confirm the front wheel nut/bolt configuration for the comp xr. i removed mine last week to fit a speedo and after i'd put everything back together i noticed a white plastic ring on the garage floor. at the moment i have the bolt, 2 tube spacers and the nut on the other end. are there any washers inbetween? it wasnt my garage so there was allsorts of stuff on the floor before i started.
  4. i'd invest in some I.P.E (individual protective equipment). a good set of knee and elbow pads and a good helmet. get a proper skate set. a lot of us bought the mcgill pad set from littlewoods index when they had a clearout for a bargain £3 but that was ages ago. they are top quality. i also got a skateboard helmet. nice and lightweight with good all round visibility. the helmet was from asda and cost £8.99. both were great buys for the money so its possible to shop around and get good stuff for littly pennies. check on ebay. my first O.B.E i got dragged down a concrete runway with only fingerless gloves on and ground away the end of my finger and every elbow, knee and both sides of my body. i learnt a lot about protection from that.
  5. ok then, i've fitted the sensor to the fork using the supplied tie wraps and i hacksawed the back off the magnet and araldited it straight onto the rim of the front wheel. there is approx 10mm gap between the sensor and magnet but it still registers speed. not sure how accurate though. the speedo is mounted on the down tube and is taped/tie wrapped on. i used the rolling one revolution method and got a different reading every time, so i inflated all of the tyres to 25psi and did it again. i came up with an average of 1510mm. i think i will do the towing behind a vehicle method and adjust accordingly. has anybody tried this? if so, how does the buggy handle? where do you attach the tow rope/straps?
  6. so you put a mark on the front wheel tyre wall and the floor, sit in the buggy, do one revolution and mark the floor again. measure the distance and that it the figure you input into the speedo. as most of the weight seems to be towards the rear of the buggy, i didnt think the front wheel would be affected that much. did you have feet on the pegs also?
  7. just got a speedo for chrimbo and as the weather is poo i should get round to fitting it to my peter lyn comp xr. i,ve got plenty of tips (too many) from the search bit of the site so i just need the confidence to get round to fitting it. i have read that the pl comp wheel is 1256mm and that is the figure i need to put into the speedo settings. also, araldite seems to be the favoured method of securing the magnet. i work with araldite a lot and can confirm its glueability. i dont really want to start drilling the wheel. any last hints before i go ahead?
  8. i have been the lucky winner of one of these kites from the traction kite web site forum. is the stacker purely a recreational kite for open air use or can you use it with a buggy or mountain board? what sort of flying charactaristics does the stacker 6 have? mostly lift or drag or is it similar to a stunt kite? i weigh approx 14 stone and my PKD BUSTER 3 drags me across the beach quite nicely. will the stacker do the same? thanks for any advice.
  9. again, this has been asked before, what should i look for when buying one? i am only really interested in speed but they all seem to be multi-function. which type is the easiest to fit? the diameter of the wheel (PL COMP XR) seems to be a contencious issue when fitting the sensor. any help please.
  10. i've been trying to get you lot a pass to come onto the station for a play but the security and logistics behind the whole affair was massive. too much red tape. wittering is quite high up in this area so we get good clean wind i've been told.
  11. we all have break lines so why dont we use them? do we get so confident that we think we can rescue almost any suspect OBE, or does everything happen so fast you are on the ground before you can say owww? i have a pic of my nasty finger but not sure how to put it on as a thumbnail or standard picture. (excuse the pun- just realised it as i was typing. ) any one know how and i'll show it.?
  12. went out buggying yesterday on the airfield where i work. it was only blowing about 8 mph so didnt bother with KK's but always put my crash helmet on. can't be too carefull. anyway, i really got the hang of it as i'm only a beginner. was going back and forward and managed to get a few good runs with successful turns. i then got a bit confident and ventured onto the concrete taxi way. wow i got some speed up of about 15-20 mph managed to brake and turn and really felt as though i'd mastered it. all of a sudden on my next turn, i must of been going too fast and definately had the kite in the power zone. the buggy flipped and i got dragged about 10 feet across the hard surface by my finger tip. i managed to hold onto the kite luckily and when i'd eventually stopped tumbling, that's when i noticed how hurt i was. the end of my right hand index finger has been totally ground away down to half the nail. my knee is grazed, the whole of my left side is grazed and i have several other limb grazes. time to pack up and go home i thought. had to wrap a windscreen cloth around my finger to stop dripping blood all over the car. MORAL OF THE STORY-WHERE YOUR PROTECTION AND DONT GO OUT ALONE.
  13. got up this morning and looked at the tops of the trees. i've been doing a lot of that lately. anyway, i thought i'd get the kite and buggy out for my first real session. i'm only a novice. just so happened i had a whole airfield to play with so i found a nice quiet spot away from the main runway and launched the 3m buster.F*** ME! i didnt realise there would be so much pull. xcweather said wittering (RAF) was 10mph but i'm no expert. quickly landed and attached the new kite-killers. good job i did. after a fair bit of fighting with the conditions i positioned myself into the buggy and away i went. i picked a big stretch of soft grass incase of any mishaps. managed to slam the kite into the ground a few times but eventually got going and managed a full run there and back with a full 180 degree turn. well chuffed. i found myself looking at the kite most of the time to see what it was doing. i flew it at the edge of the window back to about 90 degrees to the buggy, then back to the edge again.i kept doing this and kept momentum, albeit slow. i then brought the kite high with enough forward speed to turn into the kite and go back the opposite way.then took the kite to the other edge and 90 degrees and so on. i'm not sure if this is the correct method but it worked. if anyone has got any helpful hints as to how to improve (if your still awake) i'd appreciate them. STOKED!
  14. i have been told that you have to travel approx 45 degrees to the kite when buggying. i am confused as i have tried this but when i go to turn i seem to catch the kite up and the lines go slack and the kite falls out of the sky. the kite has such a large flying window so does the kite have to be nearest you at the edge of the window or furthest away? i know you have to turn 180 degrees into the kite but i am failing all the time and end up wheeling the buggy back to the start. as i am only a novice the weather has been quite mild when practicing.
  15. ive now finally got my move to Leeming on 2nd August so will be looking for trips to redcar and any other open spaces anywhere between northallerton and the bit where my toes get wet.
  16. just got back from newquay and there was buggying on watergate beach every day. it wasnt too busy but the kiters and buggiers were going out after 4pm most days. the extreme academy has a load of new flexifoil buggys and kites for hire and qualified instructors.
  17. how about redcar, in cleveland. it's about 40 miles but easier on the train/pushbike. theres a campsite right next to the beach at coatham sands. also pubs and fish'n'chips and amusement arcades within a 3 minute walk.
  18. at this time of the year, newquay beaches will be getting busy. i'm off there surfing on 6th june for a week and thinking of taking the buggy also for the no-surf days. like i said though, its busy. forget fistral and the town beaches. even surfers are pushed out to make way for tourists. watergate bay is closest without being the busiest and there is the extreme academy there for advice etc. the other factor in newquay is parking. chances of getting parked anywhere near the beach is rare unless your there f***ing early. last summer i had to park in the town, get changed into the wetsuit and carry my 7'8" board through the precinct and then down to the beach. sounds a pain but its quite a common sight in newquay. i suppose a buggy wont look too out of place either.
  19. ah, takes me back to my yoof. cant wait to move back to the north east. good job you managed to hide I.C.I out of the background in that picturesque sunset. What will the wind be like once they build that huge wind farm just off the coast....
  20. i am possibly moving to N.yorks in august but family are in boro and stockton. often at saltburn surfing so hopefully will be bringing the kite/buggy up also if the waves are flat.

    please advise

it looks like kite killers are approx £15 mail order. who gives the best service? can you get discount or price matching from anyone on the forum?
  22. had another kite outing today over in empingham playing fields. met a few of the buggy nuts. very helpful bunch and got my kite set up perfect. there was a bit of uneven line lengths. wish it was a bit windier but good to practice. eventually got the buggy to move about 3 foot before taking my eye off the kite and then smacked it into the ground. no damage thank god. cant wait for the next time. thanks again to coupe and carl and don for the warm welcome.

    please advise

where is the best/cheapest mail order place to get kite-killers from? i need ones that will fit a PKD BUSTER. are they kite specific. what is the difference between cheap k-k's and expensive ones?
  24. yeah mike, just up the road from you then. where about are the playing fields? behind the school? i've got the whole of the airfield to play with also but only on weekends. other than that, behind wittering village sports and social club there is a big field where a few flyers go. not big enough to buggy though. as for insurance, i will definately be getting that sorted as a 4" hole in my thigh from a surfing accident in mexico will prove the fact it is invaluable.
  25. my mate round the corner is selling his xr with fat wheels but yours was a bit cheaper and in better condition. i had a look at his before i made my mind up to buy the xr over the st. he is 6'2 so too big for the xr and is trying to get a libra. He has only been out a few times on the xr. plenty of friendly people on here though and loads from the peterboro area.
