  1. ssayre: I forgot to mention a point on the Twister. I can only speak with limited experience but in regards to the 4.0 and 5.5 I found the latter to have more lift, the former, more speed. I have a CF II 5m (which I dare sometimes) but the lift is more 'apparent-wind' related. As earlier stated, the T5.5 can be a real handful just parked at zenith; arm wrenching stuff! I do not know how suitable it would be for a buggy with that much 'true-wind' lift. I'm working towards (proper) kite-jumping/kite-skating/land-boarding, so I am building my quiver with good lift in mind. Then again, I've seen a video of a buggy man and a Voltage 6.5 + 8.5 and he was spending as much time in the air as on the ground, so maybe your planning on fixing wings to your buggy. Mick14: I'm jealous of your junes! I need to get myself on sand so I can start pushing the jumps. I currently have poor redirects, and am usually landing way too fast and hard. This means I need to take the jump-progress extra slow as I cannot afford to break something. I need to keep working so I can keep buying more kites! I like your 5m/14knots choice. Perhaps someone needs to make a parascending video. Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all the time given here
  2. That's great to hear Mick. Doing it all and still enjoying it. I guess that is my point, in my weird way of explaining things: fun can be had all round with kites. I thought I was a minority, so it is great to see the numbers go up. Static implies still, you are spot on. When I fly my little speed foils, that is static. Perhaps I am kidding myself if I think what I was doing in the video was static. I may start standing, but skudding (and jumping too come to think of it) is a play with traction...yes indeed! Geez now I gotta rethink my whole philosophy
  3. ...and that video makes me want the 7.5!
  4. I do believe you are correct, traction is another whole level altogether. I guess my opinion at the moment is one-sided. Not for long though, I'm already planning wheels. But I feel there will always be a place for static, and I never will dislike it. I think a big factor that I didn't mention or realise, is, location. It's a lot easier for me to fly static than traction. Sometimes it's even difficult to find a good spot for static. If I had good traction locations close by, things might look a little different. Thanks! The video cracks me up each time I watch it
  5. OBE maybe one day, at the moment though just UFO Cheers Michael.
  6. Hey all! I felt it time to give some credit to static flying. Pretty much right off the bat when I got into this new hobby of mine, I was confronted with a real negative view on static flying. Reading various posts one finds almost a hatred for it: boring, just up and down and up and down, waste of time, why bother, on-wards and downwards it goes. I haven't started traction yet and I know when I do I'll love it. But I also know I'll never give up static flying. Just different activities for different situations as I see it. In fact, one of my most recent kite purchases was a Prism Snapshot 1.9. I quickly learnt with big kites that a high level of strength and endurance is required-even got me back into doing weights it has-and I guess that level of fitness may not suit everyone. But as far as I'm concerned, the human body is designed to be as active as possible, all of that being just a bonus to one's health and overall enjoyment of life. ************************************************************************************ So here is a little video of some of my better moments out there. I'm still learning and I know I got a lot to master so don't expect competition style moves. Actually part of the reason for the recordings is to help me improve. In viewing I found it quite funny and decided to share the fun. 4.0 video is nothing special but does show the potential of the kite. 5.5 is where the adrenalin was really starting to pump. 2013 Twister models, standard PL equipment, 20m lines all round. I'm 70kg and the winds were (inland) gusty as always. Twister 5.5 saw BF 3 to high 4s with the occasional BF 5 gust, but a great location for it. Initially I thought the winds were too high for me to control, but apart from the Twister gust-angry moments ripping my arms out of their sockets while parked at zenith, I found it well manageable with minimal unexpected surprises. Twister 4.0 saw BF 3 to 4, but it was turbulent, I misjudged the wind and was in a less than ideal location. Ignore the time-stamp, not correct for the 4.0 and really just an eyesore that I've now removed. First time video editing too, so excuse the amateur result. Danny
  7. I'm another one that agrees I guess. The quality of the bag was something that I considered yes, till I got sick of carting 3 (FB(the usual number I take to a site)) kite bags around, plus another bag with everything else; not to mention the times I misjudged the winds and ended up with the wrong kites on site. Recently bought a huge duffle bag plus a bunch of luggage straps and sacks akin to pillow cases. Now each kite has its own luggage strap and sack to keep everything wrapped up in one place. All of them go into the duffle/gear bag and I can fit 6-8 kites into the bag if necessary-and it has wheels. It has simplified my world immensely. Still like a quality kite-bag and there may be that rare occasion where I will use them, but for the most part, I'll just have a wardrobe full of empty kite-bags.
  8. That's good stuff! Thank you.
  9. I would have thought that the bigger wheels would be a positive, more stable and smoother; Doom Wheels come to mind... Then again, there is much more that I don't know than I do know If someone is interested in a pair of Skorpions, let me know.
  10. I've been looking into this sort of thing. But haven't decided yet... I did look at Skorpion skates, even bought a second-hand pair from Ebay! But in my rush didn't realise it was the small size. I can use them with something like aqua socks, my foot just fits with them, but haven't yet. Hard enough to find decent places to fly static-how sad-let alone move around. Plus I think you'd need pretty smooth terrain or it's going to be a very rough and very likely a high-risk activity Anyways, from the Skorpion website, they are currently on special for US$120 and I think with delivery is approximately US$200. All-Terrain Skikes - can be bought down here www.skike.com.au something like AU$400 (and up) delivered. Gate Skate Trail Skate - this is what has caught my attention the most. Offered from (www.northernkites.com/?pid=112) (USA) and delivered here for around US$300. I especially like that this skate seems the be the only one with 8" wheels. Skorpion are the cheapest, but I dunno how suitable. Gate Skate seems to be excellently priced, O/S supplier though. Skike are the most expensive, but would be easy to get parts.
  11. OPEN SESAME! I think this makes my 5th post and good things shall follow~ I'll reply to the message as soon as I am allowed
  12. I think this is spot-on advice, and is the path I am currently learning on: static FB, dynamic FB, and then....onwards and upwards
  13. This is just what I was looking for, thanks JD
  14. I don't see any talk since January, is it still for sale?
  15. Hi, Is the board still for sale?
