Oh and I'm in Prestatyn so the closer the better! Anyone out tomorrow?
-
Cheers all. I went to Red Wharf Bay on Anglesey earlier cause I figured it'd be good for the wind direction (NE earlier) but didn't like it too much. Wind seemed to be cross-off shore and the my feet have been destroyed by the rocks!! Would anyone be kind enough to list some decent spots for the common wind directions Next time I go out I'll put a message on here and hopefully meet up with some people. I only have a 12m at the moment though so under 20kts really

Hey all, I moved to North Wales in September, learnt to kitesurf in Bournemouth a while ago, looking to get out kiting ASAP! I have one 12m o-zone kite, as it's quite a lot windier up here, i'm guessing i'm going to need a smaller one most of the time! I'm living near Prestatyn, but I know that Llandudno west shore and Rhosneigr are really good spots. Are these spots generally quite busy on a good day? - i.e. plenty of people to launch/land me? I've kitesurfed for around a year, if anyone fancies meeting up on a windy day and going out somewhere then send me a message! Cheers

Impact vests are a lot tighter than most buoyancy aids which should help prevent injuries as they wont move, and they're also less restrictive. I have a mystic impact vest and its great, really comfortable, looks cool, and although I haven't had any hard bails with it yet, it has definately helped with some bad landings.

I have an instinct light 12m, and its great. Its my first kite, started kitesurfing this summer and now moved away from the coast so started landboarding on a 2nd hand MBS board, its really good. Can take it out in the same conditions as on the water, has loads of de-power, good safety features, and i've not felt really overpowered with it - even took it out in 30 knot gusts and it wasnt too bad.
-
Nice one! Sounds like its worth a trip to Sotavento then! Easy jet sounds good - is that £30 return for the bag??

To kitesurf? You've got.......... Poole Harbour (sandbanks) - shallow water, pretty good wind, will be very busy on sunday if its windy Branksome Beach - Close to sandbanks, just go up the hill towards Bournemouth from sandbanks, turn right at the next roundabout and you'll get to the beach on your right....seen a few kiters there. Sandbanks Beach - other side of the harbour, can park anywhere (on the hill towards Bournemouth has free parking), just walk through the big carpark or one of the little paths to the beach Bournemouth beach - never kited there, but the beach stretches for miles, right next to the pier is the busiest bit, then further towards poole you've got durley chine, alum chine and so on...... Wind is quite often cross-off or cross shore. If its a north easterly then you can go on the ferry from sandbanks to studland and go to Shell Bay. Really good spot in the right wind.

Go to a canal with the quads, attach rope and wakeboard handle to back of quad, get kiteboard, drive quad down side of canal and wakeboard on the back. Or same thing with mountain board in a field

The instinct light is a beginner / wave kite so I guess thats why. As my first kite, its been pretty good, I haven't tried many others but its been fine for me so far, and can get going from around 12 knots. I'm not ready to spend thousands on a kite quiver just yet!! I've taken the kite out in 30 knot gusts and it wasnt too bad with some depower, didnt really feel overpowered, just had to really lean back and go upwind when the gusts hit.

Its cool that you're taking your board! I'm going to just hire one...I hate Ryanair!! Bit strapped for cash at the moment, so going to mix kitesurfing and surfing which is a lot cheaper. Yeah you can try out the 12, look out for the guy with the blue o-zone instinct light. I was living in Poole, but now back to uni in Loughborough so ages from the coast!! Is baiter inside poole park, right by the quay? I saw a landboarder in there a while ago when I was walking through, looked good!!

I'll be staying in Corralejo from 5th sept to 12th sept! Cant wait! Going to take my 12m kite, if it fits, and harness, impact vest, rashie, helmet etc. so should only need to rent a board. Also going to do a surf course hopefully as its a bit cheaper!
-
Thats the bolt im after! Also seem to have lost the top hat now aswell as the washer, so i'll get a save-a-ride kit....thanks guys! Is it a good board to start kiting with??
-
Hey guys, looking at buying a second hand core 16 from a friend. Is this a good first board for kiting? I know MBS are known for good quality. I tried it out today and got going but it was too windy for my 12m so didnt try it much. Also, today, the suspension on the trucks mustve been loose and one of the springs came out. We managed to find the spring and the yellow oval thing inside (damper?), but we couldnt find the allen bolt that goes into the suspension and lost a metal washer aswell. Is there anywhere I can go to get spare parts?? Cheers

How many of you are kitesurfers living in the midlands
Noori88 replied to EH FLYER's topic in Kite Surfing
I did live in bournemouth when I started kitesurfing, now moving to Loughborough as i'm going back to uni . But, going to buy a mountain board and use my LEI for kite landboarding! Its winter soon anyway so I can stay warmer on dry land! Also - snow kiting -
Thanks mate!! Do you work at a school or anything there? With any rental equipment?? I didnt win the kite I wanted on ebay (8m) , going to look in some shops during the week, but if not, would it be worth taking my 12m to fuerte? or just too big for most days? Cheers
-
I would do lessons the the UK, especially if youve never kited before. Then you can go abroad after a bit of practice, enjoy it more, and make the most of it by staying out on the water for ages!
-
Also i've seen quite a few kites on Branksome beach, quite often cross shore winds there, and looks like a good spot! I've not tried kiting there before as I prefer poole harbour for the shallow water, but theres a lot more space obviously and never too many kites there. Just have to make sure theres not many people on the beach when you launch.
-
Ryanair charge £40 there, and £40 back for sports equipment, such a rip off! Also at the moment I only have a 12m kite, im hoping to buy an 8/9 before I go on sunday though! I should be able to fit the kite and other stuff in my suitcase, just not the board, so I will probably end up renting at least the board... I'm going with my girlfriend anyway so i'm not going to be kiting all the time, but at least I will get a bit of kiting in and be able to check out how it is for a kite holiday soon... I'm staying in an apartment in Corralejo, flying from Bournemouth airport on Sunday. Will most likely be around flag beach! I won't be taking a mobile as its too expensive so we will need some way of recognising each other?? for a bit of kiting. Even if the kiting isnt brilliant, theres always surfing, windsurfing and quad bikes so theres plenty to do!! Whats the usual wind direction on flag beach? I've never kited in off shore before, only windsurfed with a rescue boat...

I've not tried out christchurch harbour, but I learnt in Poole harbour - on sandbanks, and it was great for me - shallow water, winds not too bad - although quite often gusty, and plenty of space. Bad points....... when the tide goes out, it can really limit the space available and its a looooong walk to and from the water. It also gets really busy when the wind is good on weekends. Weekdays arent too bad, but obviously some of us have to work... however weekday evenings are generally OK! I was there last saturday and it was very windy and very busy - from a beginner point of view its frustrating and a bit dangerous to have so much kiters/windsurfers/kayaks everywhere, and it can spoil the fun! Also saw quite a bad accident last week where a kiter got thrown near to the road because of a gust of wind, hit his head, and the kite ended up in a tree over the road. So it can be dangerous if you launch from the beach and its literally next to the busy road. Also had a session at shell bay in studland, just over the ferry from sandbanks, and that was brilliant, but only with a NE wind so its onshore... I think there are better places on poole harbour for more advanced riders - although ive never tried them. Hamworthy park is one place I think a few kiters launch from?
-
For sure mate!! Where are you staying? Are you taking all your kite stuff? I think i'm gonna rent instead, but probably take everything except my board.
-
Thanks for all your help! Checked out flag beach and sotavento and it looks like rental will be around 40-50 euros per day. Thats not too bad, considering to take my stuff would be £40 there and £40 back, so thats 2 days of kitesurfing rental. I'm considering taking all my own stuff, but i'd have to go and buy a big bag and then pay the Ryanair charges to take it... I may just do 1 or 2 days of kitesurfing and then do some other stuff aswell - surfing, quadding, etc. Can easily put a kite in my suitcase though! Will post on here when I get back!!

Hi guys, I've booked a holiday to Corralejo from the 5th of September for a week, and want to do lots of kitesurfing! I only have one 12m kite so thats probably too big for the winds there, although I am looking to buy an 8m - but I wont be able to take my board anyway, so i'm looking for rental. I've got the BKSA Kiteboarder kite from my beginner course so I should be able to rent? Has anyone been before - any recommendations and prices of schools? Cheers!

Safety going off accidentally, and straps too small.....
Noori88 replied to Noori88's topic in Kite Surfing
Mine is on the o-zone instinct 2008 bar - you pull the red elasticated 'button', and then the chicken loop is free to open. I'm thinking maybe I pull it with my arm accidentally or something. The last time it happened was a busy day in the harbour and my kite landed pretty heavily just in front of a group of kids at a kayak school....so it could be pretty dangerous! Its a simple design so i'm sure its set up correctly Its this bar: http://www.powerkiteshop.com/images/productimages/accessories/ozoneinstinct09controlbar.jpg -
Hey, I have 2 questions: For some reason, my safety on the chicken loop has gone off by itself twice, meaning the kite comes straight down and slaps on the water. I got a video of the last time it happened, after i did a small jump, where I landed, and the safety came off just afterwards - and it doesn't look like I even touch it in the video. Has this happened to any one else?? Also, the foot straps on my Aboards Flip are a bit too big. I tighten them up as much as I can but after a bit of riding, they work loose again. Is there anything I can do about this other than maybe get wetsuit boots or something like that? Has anyone ever modified some foot straps to make them smaller? Thanks for any help!!

Cheers guys. Glad to see the landboards are a damn sight cheaper than the kitesurf boards!! I'll give my 12 a go then! Anyone kiteboard around oxford or loughborough?
