  1. I think you are right, I'm going with the BKSA because they are holding Essex “Kitefest”, June 15th-17th - Freestyle Kitelandboard and Kitebuggying
  2. Does anyone know how to contact BPKA, their email address is bouncing back at the moment? Also, does anyone actually know thee guys? I have been insured through them for several years and have not had any problems, until now trying to get in touch with them. Thanks, PQ
  3. The 6m is the only Rage I've flown. However, I've flown it back to back with my 7m Blurr and 8.5m Blade IV. The Blurr is the slowest so the poorest for light winds. The Blade can only really be bettered by something like a 15m Flysurfer Speed 3 Deluxe (I've only flown the quite frankly awesome Speed 3 back to back with my Blade), but as I don't own one, when it gets really, really light, and the Blade gets hard work constantly looping such a big kite, I've found that the Rage 6m surprisingly slightly better. Obviously I've noticed the wind window getting smaller as the wind gets lighter, but I have to say I have never notice that it feels smaller flying my 6m Rage compared to flying my Blade. You have got me intrigued, the next opportunity I'll make a comparison.
  4. Maybe! I know the 6m Rage doesn't get a lot of love round here. Perhaps I'm bias because it was the first kite that got me going on a buggy but I suspect that the issue is more likely that people come to it from Blades not realising how 'de-tuned' it is. Who knows! I found this old thread, seems like this isn't the first time I've felt compelled to stick up for the 6m Rage! PQ
  5. I disagree with both of these comments! My 6m Rage was the first kite (along with a 3.5m Blurr) that I buggied with and I still find it to be about the most versatile kite I've got. It is a great low wind kite and with its low aspect ratio and light weight construction can still keep me going even when my 8.5m Blade IV (my favourite and most used kite) becomes too hard work. I am comfortable with it up to about 15mph with my three year old sat on my lap. Beyond that I admit these days it doesn't get much use as I'd rather be using my Blade IVs or Blade Vs, but every now and then it is a blast. I leave it just on handles so if I or someone else needs a kite without a strop it is the kite to grab. I also find it perfect just as it is and have never thought it needed a AAA adjuster. Blades, and even more so Blurrs, have a higher aspect ratio, are more finely tuned and are less versatile as they are, therefore the AAA bridal is useful. But in my opinion if you are wanting to adjust the angle of attack of you 6m Rage you should probably be flying a different kite.
  6. That's good to know! I think you would have to work hard to give yourself a serious injury on it so I wouldn't worry about that side of things...
  7. I use a loop of spectra too, I also like that I can make the anchor point right against the down tube with it.
  8. It's all looking poo this morning!
  9. This weekend Sunday is looking the best at the moment?
  10. It's not exactly the question you asked but there are some good ideas on this thread: http://forum.kitecrowd.com/buggying/toe-straps-peter-lynn-buggy-162188.html
  11. Sorry to drag up an old thread, but does anyone know where I could get, or get made, an tandem attachment for my two buggies? I like the look of the ones that Coolboarder and Breezer has in their posts above. Many thanks, PQ
  12. 8.5m Blade IV
  13. Sadly I'm not arround this weekend, I'm in York...
  14. Great stuff Floyd, lets hope for a great summer, after such as s*** winter! PQ
  15. From Ipswich you could make it down to Essex Kite Park, there is almost always someone there at the weekend if either there is wind. Here is the thread we use. You would be very welcome
  16. It's going to look big next to a 1 year old! The 6m Rage (which is actually a stupid name for it) is a very different kite to the 6.5m Blade (mine is a Blade IV). The Blade accelerates and turns much quicker and has considerably more power. Whereas the Rage will launch directly down wind and give your arms a little tug as it ambles through the window, if you are not ready for it the Blade will superman you before you know what's happening. The Rage will sit overhead at the zenith with no fuss or surprises, a gust and the Blade will lift you off you feet. You have to work real hard to get the Rage to lift you off the ground, even in strong winds. In light winds, run to one side with the Blade, wang it back the other way and you will be air born (don't forget to redirect!). Do that with the Blade in a strong wind and you will get seriously high for quite some time. I leave that to the experts! I'm not trying to put you off, far from it, that's what makes the Blades so good for the buggy. The trouble is they are addictive and once you have one of them you will inevitably want the rest of the set. The best thing to do is to have a go of one. Is there any chance you can make it down to Essex Kite Park for the next summer session? It is the 16th to 18th July. You would be very welcome to fly my 6m Rage, 7m Blurr and 6.5m Blade IV and see which one best suits you. PQ
  17. Having started off on a PL Comp myself, and then had to buy a secondhand stainless steel Flexifoil buggy later on. I would recommend getting a secondhand Flexifoil buggy straight away. They are easy to buy and sell. The disadvantage with the PL Comp is that it is not a strong buggy and won't take the sort of abuse that most buggies end up getting, especially if you partner is going to end up doing tricks. For a kite I would recommend getting a Flexifoil Rage (or Ozone Flow, which I believe is similar) as these are stable and predictable kites that are ideal for learning with and building confidence. Bullets and Blurrs are also great kites and would count as "intermediate", for but are easier to use if you have flown kites before. Kites can also be bought and sold easily, and I have bought several secondhand kites using eBay and this forum with no problems at all. In any case (as well as lessons obviously), plenty of time static flying a 4-line kite will make picking up kite buggy riding much easier. PQ
  18. I think that's how we all feel! Shame the wind is pants down here today, maybe later in the week... PQ
  19. Funnily enough I am very happy to own my 6m Rage! When I first started in a buggy it was perfect for light winds and between that and my 3.5m Blurr I had everything covered for quite a while. Admittedly now I own a quiver of Blurrs and Blade IVs it doesn't see much action but I still keep it as it is great for messing around in light winds with non kiting friends. It is super stable and predictable. It obviously can't compete on power with something like a 6.5 Blade, or even a 4.9 Blade or 5m Blurr for that matter, but I don't think that is the point. Mine is in Acid, which is the best colour in my opinion! PQ
  20. I'm surprised know one has suggested a Blade V. Based on flying my 4.9 Blade V (not a 6.5) I find the V more forgiving and faster to turn than the IV and in gusty conditions I would rather a Blade V than IV. I think that the V has an unfounded bad reputation as it is not as aggressive as the previous Blades, but that does not make it a bad kite. It is less aggressive so less desirable for some but I think it is probably the most refined Blade made to date, and possibly exactly what you are looking for? I love my 4.9 Blade V and intend to get the other two to compliment with my set of Blade IVs for when the conditions are not so good. I also think the 7m Blurr is a great kite and out of all of the Blurrs is the easiest to fly as it back-stalls the least. However, it has no cross bridal and is quite slow, probably only slightly faster to turn than an 8.5m Blade IV. I think that the Blurrs are fantastic kites and could never part with my set but they are not without their issues. Back-stalling being the main one but they also take a bit of experience to get the best out of them. You could just spend that time getting used to your Blade IV? I remember the first time I flew a friends 6.5m Blade IV, it scared the crap out of me! Now I have my own, I love it, of course, and handled in the right way doesn't have to send you skyward. By the way, you can easily jump in a buggy with a 7m Blurr, but you have to be very firm when redirecting because of its turning speed (the 5m Blurr is much better in this respect). I think that the 6m Rage is another great kite, and was my first kite that I used in the buggy. Very stable, very predictable, basically very nice and easy to fly. However, it is a big kite for amount of power you get form it, much much less power than the 6.5m Blade IV, so in higher winds you end up with way to much material in the sky which becomes a liability. Anyway, after your 6.5m Blade IV you will find the Rage to boring, I only keep mine to so non kiting friends can have a go of something when the wind is light. What a silly name for that kite! I have only flown Flexifoil powerkites so I couldn't comment on the other kites mentioned here. PQ
  21. Looks like Sunday is the day at the moment...
  22. Hi Randomhero! Newcomers are always welcome! We are down most weekends and often during the week as well. This weekend is a little different as most of the lads are going to a special event but I'll be down at some point (not sure when as I'm supposed to be decorating this weekend!). I'll post here when I know. By the way, this thread is the way we normally contact each other for organising the weekend. We also have our own forum and website. Everyone is really friendly and will always help out with advice and setting up etc. Two members are instructors so it is possible to get formal lessons if you want them. You will need insurance which costs £15 from here and the club costs £120 for annual membership. However, come along a few times, meet everyone and see how you feel. If you want to chat or email directly PM me you contact details. Hopefully see you down the park soon... PQ
  23. I have no idea what he is talking about!
  24. A very nice session! I think I'm starting to understand the redirect, but I'm still not very good at it!!
  25. If it is it's not a very pretty one! Great shot Paul! Sorry I didn't make it this weekend, I had to work on the house and look after a not very well Rascal Boy!
