Seems to be a negative tone on here about Sotavento. I'd disagree. First went there about 4 years ago and rode in consistent offshore winds every day. I was good enough to ride upwind enough and I had 2 odd miles to tack back to the beach if I was struggling. Yes it's quiet and Germanic but, I go to kite and chill and Costa Calma has a few decent bars if you know where to look. Sure it can be a bit gusty, but if you pick the right time of day you can avoid the worst of this. Time your trip for use of the lagoon (available dates at rene-egli.com), get a car to scoot over to La Pared for some waves and you have enough options in my book. I tried Correlejo - was too much like Benidorm for my liking! Always stay at Melia Gorriones, plenty of facilities and the food's OK. If staying up north, I'd recommend the Riu Hotel - we kited there right off the beach and the hotel lifeguards seemed fine with that.
