  1. Check them out, new maidstone band: http://community.flexifoil.com/showthread.php?t=104296 http://www.myspace.com/screwedthapooch
  2. back in the day I was into new bands and there was a decent scene in Maidstone at the time (early ninety's). Apparently it's reviving again with little brother (basist) Will and his band leading the charge: Check them out: http://www.myspace.com/screwedthapooch playing in Maidstone this weekend. get in touch with the band if you're intersted for video music
  3. i was surfing down at belhaven last night, not a lot of wind but some cheeky waves as the sun was going down. looks like a top kiting spot aswell. pm to you geoff
  4. I check this website for surf reports around the country and there's some great pictures of a surf comp. held yesterday at Fistral and also of some epic surf last year at a reef at Newquay called the Cribbar which holds enourmous swell. http://www.a1surf.com/
  5. I'm an electrical power engineer for a large pertrochemicals site. did a mechanical degree and then got into electrical through work and now doing a part time MSc. there is loads of work in oil and gas, on and offshore at present with mega buck salaries if you want to live in the desert somewhere. there's a massive shortage of engineers just now so worth considering although you'll need a masters degree to get started (this puts off alot of people). the good thing about it is that a lot of it is playing with really big toys - not just sat at the desk allday.
  6. i like the sound of a day out or maybe the edinburgh flyers party - sounds like fun. i've got exams in 2 weeks and then after that mucho kiting. Ally - any sordid freshers week stories yet??
  7. i'm thouroughly beaten from yesterday - aching like an old man. i don't think I'm going to be able to sew my brake line strap as it's got to be able to slide through the hole in the center of the bar. anyway - i've got spares on order. Wallace - i know what you're talking about - leaving the ground with the board attached seems so unnatural although I was starting thinking about it yesterday!!
  8. i had a good session -the 3m was just right - nicely powered! bit of messing about with bar set up so i could use the strop then snapped the elastic leash part of the safety line that attaches on to your wrist. anyone know if you can buy these?
  9. great to meet you guys last night. i'm going to head down to cockenzie - should be down there about 2.00.
  10. there's a station at prestonpans which is about 10 mins from cockenzie by bike. return was £4.40. my flats at haymarket as well - but you can't get a direct train from haymarket.
  11. i made it out last night, as the last wind speed i saw was 12 mph at edi airport - so all was looking good. first time trying to do this sport without a car - all loaded up on the bike, halfway to the station then remembered i'd forgot my harness. all the way back - got harness, back to the station in time for the train but they wouldn't let me on with the bike - too busy!! so i wait half an hour for the next one. eventually get to cockenzie to find the wind has completely dropped - messed about for 3.4 of an hour before packing up and waiting at the station for 1/2 hour for train. what an evening!! at least i've found it is possible to do this by train and only 15 mins from waverly. damn this high pressure/ nice sunny weather!!!!!!!!
  12. that's what i'm hoping - and get the 8.5 out. it would be cool to meet up when you're down around here
  13. I'm thinking of heading down to cockenzie after work if the conditions look ok. if not tonight then tommorrow. anyone keen?
  14. Cheers for the info guys - I'd read about the guy being killed - Sounds horrific. Have fun up north - I hope you get some wind. Nice photo by the way - althought those lines look a bit heavy (must be old school)!
  15. not seen any of you guys for a while - wind's maybe looking ok for thursday (wishfull, hopeful, fingers crossed etc etc). I've just read a thread about tethered flying but there seems a bit of anti newbie's asking what it is so I thought i'd ask here. I don't want to have a go, just wondered why it's so dangerous?
  16. as a someone trying to learn new stuff I'm allways interested in what the rider is doing with the kite as much as what he's doing with the board.
  17. cheers JimC, it seems there's not much out there for less than £200 except one from Edinburgh Bicycle co-operative. None of these are ideal. I think the idea of using the board as trailer could be a goer - but as you say would need access to a workshop to knock up the bracket. I tried the board with the B IV bag last night and it seems ok for short journeys so I reckon I'm going to stick with that for now. I still reckon there's a product in this somewhere that will make some entrepreneur a couple of quid.
  18. I like the trailer idea - hadn't thought about that before. There seems to be loads of differnt ones about but they're quite pricey. The one in your post, JimC, looks really simple - any idea where you get them?
  19. one of the reasons i won't be getting a new car is I've just bought a Blade IV so i've got the bag already - result!! Although I tried with another bag and found that the bike was very unstable with the board strapped to my back, particularly with it being 3 to 4 inches off my back. I like the handle bar idea - any problems with stability / the board sticking out into the road?
  20. 2 weeks ago going on holiday to France the cam belt on my car broke and the expense is not worth it as the car is old. I can't justify another car as I ride my mountain bike to work so it's a luxury. I know there's loads of you out there who don't have cars but still get loads of kiting in. The trains in my area aren't bad but then I need to get to the flying sites. What I was wondering is do any of you use your bikes to carry your gear. It's no problem carrying the kites but the problem is the board. When I've been abroad I've seen people with special racks for surfboards. Anyone any ideas / seen anything for a mountian board? Could be a great idea for someone making accessories????
  21. just got back from holidays - some good kiting down on the west coast of France at a place called soulac at low tide. Further south though and into Spain not so good - the smal beaches combined with crowds don't really make for good flying - any how, great holiday all the same . It looks like you guys have been having some good sessions - and some quality vid material as well. only major disaster of the holiday was my cam belt breaking - the car's not worth repairing so i am now motorless. which is a serious bummer and circumstances don't look like getting another one. have you guys tried getting to cockenzie / dunbar by train / bus - whats the deal - is it possible or a no goer? looking forward to some cockenzie sessions soon. Les
  22. no wind since i picked up my 8.5 blade 4 either. must just be the curse of the new kite - sure it's not just blade related. anyway - i'm off to france in search of wind and waves. catch you in a couple of weeks.
  23. geoff - i've just pm'ed you
  24. I'm heading south for a road trip down the west coast of France and into Spain then coming back from Santander to Plymouth. Anyone done anything similar with kiting in mind. I'm going to be taking all my kite land boarding gear plus surfboard:cool: . (also, dare I say it golf clubs:eek: , but the less said about that the better! ) Any spots worth checking out, good campisites etc would be be great to hear about. Les
