  1. Hi Guys Im up at perisher med' centre for another season and keen to get the kites out on days off. see the odd kiter flying on the flats north east of the main carpark near the tube town. always found that place gusty as and feels like rotors come off the adjascent hills. feel free to drop in to the clinic and say hi and will try to get free for a chat if not too busy. (mornings' best). will try to get up to thredbo this saturday if anyone is keen or heading up. fine with the skiing but still pretty new to kiting so all tips appreciated. Lincoln
  2. Hi Sid there's a place just near the taboggan park at perisher which i have tried to use a few times. its a few hundred meters from the car park so is handy but the wind is pretty dodgy in that part of the valley. Lincoln
  3. Hi Ben (and anyone else heading to the snow) I should have checked the forum before i headed out today. would have been great to kite with yooz. still a bit green to kiting so am keen to pick up some any tips and tricks i can from more experienced kiters. Had today off and took the work skidoo up to Charlottes. nice breeze coming over the top and was using a 2.5 to get around mt stirling to the thredbo side. it closed in though so i went back down to a huge flat field in the valley a few km's back toward peisher and played with a 6.5 for the rest of the arvo. back home now and feeling majorly unfit. working tomorow so have fun, hope the weather doesnt hit too hard for you. will be in perisher for the whole season with random days off. drop me a line on 0402385554 or lincpike@hotmail.com next time you come up and will do my best to juggle shifts and catch up. Lincoln
  4. hi Craig am very keen and definitely will check em out. was supposed to fly out of Wilkins, antarctica, yesterday. drove in convoy 70km to the runway then back again when the weather crapped out. if there is no weather window soon we are all back via 5 wks by boat. meanwhile do you have any photo's, web addresses with info on these kites etc. if so, my email address is lincpike@hotmail.com lincoln
  5. Cheers Marty, sorry about leaving out the details. been the doc at perisher med centre for the last 2 seasons. a logical choice after 15 snow seasons in my pre med school yrs instructing, patrolling and photographing in oz, nz and japan. missed the snow massively while in med school and intern slavery. got into kite surfing while living on my yacht in mackay, but find the snow stuff much easier so bought a 2.5m ozone last year. wrapped to get the antarctic job, they needed an extra doc for the new runway. u might have seen it on telly. its 70k's fro Casey and i drive a semi articulated cat up and back with a mobile ER for each flight - just in case. the windblown sustrugi surface is a nightmare but would be ok on skis or a good kart at the right speed. the summer here has been a drifter <5knots most of the time except for a few 12hr, 60knot blasts. i have had 3 sessions at 10, 20 and 7 knots. made the most of the winds with 24hr sunlight. got in the syd' morn' herald for the effort. will definitely be back in the future and hope to work on the kart design and kite expeditions in my spare time. Lincoln
  6. Thanks Nigel. the one they want me ot leave behind is a 2.5m ozone. it came with a pair of handles and no harness. was fun in anything >15knots. no harness was hard on the arms. have a harness and bar with my surf kite but had to leave it back home this trip due to weight restrictions. had some good skiing last season in perisher and will be working again there this year so wann a make the most of it and incorporate it into my snow camping trips. also keen to get a sled. should probably start building a small quiver of different sized kites for the range of winds down here and back in perisher. the kitesled page was pretty exciting, on the long treks across the sustrugi in hagglund snow cats i have come up with a few musts for antarctic kite sleds.
  7. thanks pat sounds great, where and when do you have sessions. lincoln

  16. Hi Pat, checked out the kitesled site, looks like a great challenge. ended up buying a 2.5m ozone from a couple of guys in canberra. thought i'd go small for the transition from water to snow. was fun on skiis but by the time i got time off work the snow was pretty patchy. no shortage of speed though. heading down to Casey Station as doctor in about 5 weeks and looking fwd to a few runs then. would be keen to get a kite big enough to tow a kart and gear. interested to check out the different surfaces and how to best negotiate them kartwise. good luck with the antarctic exped'n. looking forward to seeing how it unfolds. your site is right in that kiting has the potential to revolutionise antarctic travel. let me know if you are getting near Casey, Lincoln 0402385554 lincpike@hotmail.com
