Cubik - sorry mate, I meant to aim that question at kite-kid I noticed you were 31 and had probably fought your way out of school Jaytee - I'm not sure of any kiteboarders yet - we'll see on the day i guess. When you register to join up you need to fill in a form or two, i'll make sure to include details such as your area of interest with kites - there's also the club's site which will have a forum for people to arrange meets and events and stuff - maybe we could make a day of it coming to check out your kiteboarding stuff and all buy some expensive gear and go with you student loan, i have no idea how it goes?! Cubik, Hey glad to hear you are coming down to portsmouth. Are you moving to uni? If so, we are starting a power kiting club this year so look out for it at Fresher's Fair. The common is a great place to kite around, but apparenly boarding and buggying is prohibited there. IOW looks a great place to go - my housemate's brothers lives there and by the looks of his photos there's plenty of sand to play with - just don't plan on surfing the needles

The uni take money out of the signup fees to cover the insurance. As it's a sports club the minimum we can charge is about £10. The uni sort all of that stuff out for us i believe. The incentive to signup is mostly for people new to kiteing i guess, as they would be able to try out flying kites before buying their own one, plus as a club member they get discount off kite gear. I'm still waiting to hear back, but we should be getting a box or two of power kiteing magazines to give away on the day. The publisher is a bit slow to repsond so it might not happen, though the editor has assured me it should be fine. With enough interest we would group together and go over for kite surfing tuition, and probably get some discount on it too being students and in a group which is another reason for the club. Also, it's nice to be part of a club where you can all hang out doing the thing you all love doing so much, and you have a good crowd for the pub when it rains... that alone should make the fee of joining worthwhile Cheers Mat.

Hey mmmlordy, good to hear you want to join the club too! Before you buy any kites, have a look on the new site when its made. Club members get up to 20% off kite goods, and new kites are being added to the shop as of tommorow as well as boards and other fun stuff. If you have any recommendations as to what you would like to see going on in the club let me know. We have ideas but more are very welcome. Since kiteing is one of those things that people have to see to believe, we're thinking of having people pay a deposit to come down to the common to fly some kites (if wind permits) and then pay the rest of the money should they want to join, which of course we know they will! Hey, I know boarding / Buggying is banned on the common, but surely not just general kiting activities and kite jumping? I saw a lot of people boarding on the common over the summer. So har far is port solent and is it easy to get to by train? Spook - I'm going in to my third year of Uni this year so i've been in portsmouth two years now but i've never really gone outside of where i know (i'm probably the very worst in the world with directions) What / Who is TLW by the way? Haha yes, Southsea common is where we all go... In fact i was walking along the common one day when I saw a guy about 8 foot in the air attached to a kite, much to my disbelief i might add! One day later i'm out there having fun on one myself Kiting is certianly magnetic - everyone i know who's had a fly has ended up buying one. Mat.

Hey, Just to let you know, we're starting a club in Portsmouth this year. Are there any Portsmouth students here who might be interested? There's about 6 of us so far and i'm sure plenty more will be joining when they know about it We're also hoping to get some kite surfing tuition in on the Isle of Weight if there's enough interest.
