  1. Hey Slide, His email is: Chris_K48@compuserve.com. He said he is backed up for a few months though. He highly recommends it on the 8.5, as that is what he normally rides.
  2. Hey Slide, Thanks to Tom, I was able to find Chris Calthrop's facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/chris.calthrop I sent him a message, but still haven't heard back. Like I said before I didn't have any luck trying to contact him through the email link on his website.
  3. Thanks to Tom, I found Chris Caltrhop's facebook page. I tried messaging him there but still haven't heard back. His website is: Chris Calthrop's Extreme Windsurfing Page from Maui I've never seen the K48 x-over, but have seen the Flexifoil crossover kit. As mentioned above it is so you can fly your blade on 2 lines, with no brakes. I'm looking to get away from flying kites on handles. Regarding the Nasa Wings comment, the Nasa Star design is the way to go. BORN-KITE-SHOP - Index Regarding the depower comment, depower is for chickens. Regarding my signature, I left this forum and forgot it was there. I guess it's still there as a reminder that even with reputable sellers, deals can still go sour. Always use a refundable payment system like paypal (dispute within the 30 day period, I waited too long as Martin said it was coming by boat) and use a credit card on top of that for double the buyer protection.
  4. Hi Mick, No joke, and not intended to be offensive, nor disrespectful. I understand that monkeylover555 has passed away, so I know the money is gone. And to all his frieds on here, I'm sorry you lost your friend. There was a thread on this forum where I seeked help back when this first happened, but the moderators advised to not talk about the monkeylover555 on the open forum. If someone knows the details of what happened to him privately, I would be interested, which would help find some closer on my end. I had a peek at your monkeylover 555 RIP link, but couldn't see any content. Maybe it's my computer, as my computers are as old as my kites. But back to the topic, I'll try to contact Chris Calthrop via facebook. But if anyone else would like to discuss the K48 mod, I'm very interested. Thanks.
  5. Does anyone know if Chris Calthrop still offers this mod? I tried emailing him a few times and haven't heard back. If someone has this mod and would be interested in sharing some photos and other details, it would be greatly appreciated. thanks. p.s. jnicol your inbox is full;)
  6. I still haven't been reimbursed from Martin for the speed7 I bought from him. He won't return my email or pm's. I haven't heard from him since April. Last I heard he moved... Anybody know how I can get a hold of him? Thanks, Bric
  7. Thanks Mozza, It's almost June and I'm still waiting to be reimbursed. That's half a year. I'll never deal with parcelforce ever again. And I hope Martin Davis never does either.
  8. Question for those that are happy with the turning speed of their phantoms: I use all my phantoms with the internal strap pulled all the way in. I love the phantom 6M with a 55 cm bar. What size bar is good for the other phantoms? (I've tried the 12 & 9 with a 55 cm bar and it felt too small). I'll try my 70 cm bar next. What size bar are you guys (who are happy with the turning speed) using with the phantoms?
  9. better for what? My vote: low wind: flysurfer high wind: peter lynn clean wind: flysurfer gusty wind: peter lynn fast turning: flysurfer slow turning: peter lynn light bar pressure: flysurfer heavy bar pressure: peter lynn self launching in light winds: flysurfer self landing in strong winds: peter lynn big kite: flysurfer small kite: peter lynn quick set-up: flysurfer compactness for storage: flysurfer better backpack: flysurfer kite zipper's longevity: peter lynn ease of self launch: flysurfer overall safety system: peter lynn maintenance: peter lynn cost of ownership: peter lynn stabiliy: peter lynn
  10. Has anyone compiled a comparative list of the turning speed of peter lynn kites? I know it would just be qualitative and subjective. But I'm curious about people's experience comparing kites based on similar line lengths, similar sized bar, etc. PL kites that I've tried: G2-22, G2-15, G2-13, G2-11, G2-9, Venom1-16, Venom1-13, Phantom 15, Phantom 12, Phantom 6, arc 630, arc 1120, and bomba 20M. The g2-22 turns about as fast as a big flysurfer Titan. Phantom 6 obviously turns the fastest. The g2-9 is my second favorite, turns about as fast as a 15M c-kite. Each size g2 obviously turns faster as you go smaller. The phantom 15 turns faster than the g2-15. The venom 13 turns faster than the g2-13 & phantom 15. The venom 16 turns faster than the phantom 15, but slower than a fs speed1 10M. The phantom 12 seemed to turn as fast as the g2-13, but slower than the g2-11. The phantom 12 turns too slow to be a good surf kite imo. I'm curious as to how the phantom 9 turns compared to the other kites I've tried. Does the p-9 turn faster or slower than the g2-9/g2-11? I love the phantom 6, my favorite arc by far. IMO, it doesn't turn too fast, it turns just right. From my experience, as arcs get over 10M, they start feeling like they turn too slow. (with respect to the high performance needed for riding amongst waves) Anyone care to post their own comparitive turning speeds experiences? thanks.
  11. I just got a note from Afro, where he said it took him 18 months to get reimbursed for a claim with royal mail. Damn, this may take a while...
  12. Afro, I wish I could say the same. I paid monkeylover555 on December 19, 2006 for his speed 7. Kite never showed up. Still waiting to be reimbursed. It's been over 3 months, and is getting to be ridiculous. I've been very patient, but...wtf. http://community.flexifoil.com/showthread.php?t=112225 I wish I would have just spent the extra 100 quid and bought a brand spanking new one from our local shop, so I could have used the speed 7 for our snow season. Lesson learned. I look forward to the day when I get reimbursed, so I can put this entire experience behind me. Having no speed, and no spondulicks, has been a real pisser. I've bought many a kite over the years and this has been my first negative experience. It would have been less of a hassle to just make the wingine junkie. http://www.wingine.nl/
  13. For a 1 kite quiver, you don't want to go bigger than the 10M, and dont' want to go smaller than the 8M. I'd say between the two, you have to decide: would I rather be overpowered? or would I rather be underpowered? based on your answer pick the smaller or bigger one. The P3 8M is a fast turning fun kite. The P3 10 has lots of grunt. You really can't go wrong either way. If you are just learning on the water, it's typically easier to have the extra horsepower so the 10 is probably the call, just my two cents though. [if you went with the P3-8, you may want to pick up a S2-12 down the road] [if you went with the P3-10, you may want to pick up a P3-6 down the road, depending on how much wind you like to go out in, and the S2-15 for the really light stuff]
  14. Hi Andy, That's why I like the bigger npws, they don't generate the power spikes the little ones do as a gust translates to apparent wind. The 24M is a park and ride. I was hoping to use it for light wind kitesurfing, but by the time there's enough wind to pull you up on a board, any large commercial kite will work (better) by that time (~7k). But the 24M is handy with a landboard when a 10.5M blade3 has no pull. I found using short lines helps to tame the top end of a npw. Upwind seemed to be easier with short lines. I found using a fixed loop between the harness, helps to transfer the load off your hands/wrists/shoulders. Without the fixed loop, my arms felt like they wanted to fall off in 5-10 min. For safety, I'm using a slingshot surefire spreader bar. It has a pin I can pull to release the fixed loop. The 24M is a dream in the 4-10 mph range with a landboard. The 12M seems to have the same range as a blade3 10.5 (6-12 mph for my 200#). The blade is obviously more fun if you like to jump. Check out the work that Bill is doing for a bridleless, sparless npw which someday I hope to make: http://2e5.com/kite/npwc/ http://2e5.com/kite/npwc/v8/
  15. I want to make a board like this. There are days at my beach when riding with a mountain board doesn't work at high tide (though I just acquired a board with 12" tires). And I don't have the storage or transport capacity for a buggy. But this kind of board looks like fun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKpLs2SakLw&mode=user&search= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pm4QtwpyKk&mode=user&search= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivPapz1E6sE&mode=user&search= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjUEVy6BHXQ&mode=user&search=
  16. I made 4 last winter: 12M, 24M, 8M, and 4M (in that order), each took me 5 days to make. I used Fredrik's teega plans: http://freedom2000.free.fr/NPW_Teega_plans_eng.html I like the 12M the best, but I get the most use out of the 24M. If I had the time, I'd make a 16M too. I don't tend to fly the smaller ones, as I tend to prefer to fly depowerable kites in winds strong enough for the 8M and 4M. In my profile signature is a picture of the 24M. It pulls me when any other commercial kite leaves me feeling underpowered. I think my next home built kite will be the 8M radical by Sava. http://www.sharkle.com/video/49939/
  17. It you are on a budget, you may want to consider making your own board(s). With a $15 4x8 foot sheet of 1/2 plywood I can make 2 boards. For a light wind board, you want something around 150x45 cm. For a moderate wind board 140x40 cm should be good. You can use varnish to waterproof it. But I prefer using epoxy, as it lasts longer and helps stiffen up the board. You should be able to find a second hand c-kite for super cheap these days. Make sure you get a bar with quick releases. And I'd recommend investing in new lines as old lines tend to break. Be sure to leave money in your budget for a good helmet. An impact vest is a good thing to have too. If you decide against lessons, religiously read http://www.kitesurfingschool.org be safe.
  18. Martin filed a claim with parcelforce on February 9th. I hope parcelforce doesn't take 5 to 6 weeks to respond to a claim. As it is already February 28th...
  19. Well it's now been over 6 weeks. Parcelforce has no record of a package with that tracking number, which means it is lost. So I wouldn't recommend anyone using parcelforce. Now I am just waiting for Martin to resolve the situation (i.e. refund the money I sent him on December 19).
  20. If you are on a budget, check out: http://freedom2000.free.fr/NPW_Teega_plans_eng.html I really like my 12M, about the same power as a 10.5Blade3. The 24M has the best low end of any kite I've flown, but has you feeling overpowered by 10 mph. You can make these kites for under $50 USD, and take about 5 days to build. The fs speeds can be found for fairly cheap these days now that the speed2 and psycho3s are out. I can get going in the same wind on a blade3 10.5 as the speed 17, but I can park the S17. The speed 17 has better float. The blade3 10.5 turns incredibly well with a UDS bridle and bar. I've given up flying it with handles as the UDS is a lot more fun. Usable for my 88 kg at 6+ mph on a landboard. I hate arcs for light winds (sub 10 mph), even the 22M guerilla2 doesn't get any good until the winds are over 10 mph. My recommendation is to just buy the cheapest light wind kite you can buy, as they are all similar in marginal conditions.

  22. Here's a link to parcelforce international delivery times: http://www.parcelforce.com/portal/pw/worldwidedirectory?catId=19300174&campaignid=wwd&gear=worldwidedirectory According to that, international economy to the U.S. should take 28-30 days. So the kite was sent Jan 8, it should arrive by Feb 7 (30 days later) or Feb 19 (30 "business days" later) [Assuming no additional delays by customs] I am not trying to make you look bad. Thanks. edit: It appears we have been having problems receiving each other's pms on the flexifoil forum.
  23. Does anyone have experience mailing a kite from the U.K. to the U.S.A.? How long does it take? What is the choice in mail couriers? I bought a kite (speed 7) from Martin (monkeylover555) and still haven't received the kite. I'm just trying to get an idea of what's a normal delivery time. I paid Martin on December 19. He said the kite had been sent out by January 11. As of January 20th he said to give it a couple more days. As of January 29th, the kite has still not arrived. Any comments?
  24. Definately get a seat harness. The dakine fusion has been working well for me. Before I started using that harness my back would always hurt after a session. The other thing that helps is to ride underpowered with a fast turning kite that you can whip around to generate power, rather than riding overpowered with a kite that is parked. With a smaller kite, you'll want to ride a wider/bigger board to maintain your plane.
