DjMoz Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 Ive flown some but never owned depower i way about 13 stone land use with the board Tindall For that money you can get a good kite, best allrounder will be a Venom 1or 2 13m. You should be able to get a good complete v2 13m for #300 (I just sold mine for less). If you are a more confident kind of guy then I think the VII 16m will be a better kite. I am lighter and in the 10-15mph range the 13 is no longer fun, gone are the days tht a good session is just cruiising around. I was always wanting 20mph. The VII 16 has a great range (I have not had one though) is no more scary than the 13mph in sensible winds DM Quote
guerilla Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 ive got the 16 v2 i weigh 10.5 stone and god what fun if you can all ready fly then go for the 16 slower then the 13 to turn, the jumping is sooo nice and floaty lol ive progressed so much with them that im going for a quiver as ive started to use them on the water as well so best of both worlds Quote
peter32 Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 I love my 16m venomII sure its a little slow on the turn but its not so bad if you really give the bar a tug. Rip_it likes to call my kite the fat boy. he thought it was very funny till he crashed his frenzy in to it and it just hung there like a wet sock, and i refused to land to take it off. Quote
Tindall Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 just wondering about the 16 m will it get a bit lairry i was to fly it in gusty inland conditions cos i find it hard to get to beach not been able to drive and what not (peter cruel:eek: ) Quote
DjMoz Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 Tindall, 16m will not be too bad at all. Again its choosing the right conditions and getting confident but after a while you will be comfortable in gusty 20mph winds. The large Arcs are better than the smaller Arcs for gusts inland in my opinion, the smaller sizes 10m get twitchy and frustrating as they fly fast in the gust then lose all pull in the lull. My new 10m may be changing my mind though. The larger 13m+ are slower, more predictable and have a more constant pull they will help build confidence quickly. Still need a lot of respect though! Keep them low in gusty conditions and not above your head, have knee pads to slide with and a helmet and all should be good. Quote
SandMonster Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 Hi Tindall, you really need to try before you buy - not everyone gets on with the arcs - they are significantly different from other kites especially in setup / launching and to some extent how they fly & turn in the sky. Quote

It also depends on how much experience you have flying & you're own individual style. My 21 yr old nephew is heavier than you & he's recently bought a 10m Venom, but as he's quite a new flyer that's more than enough power for him, often it's too much. As sandmonster says, if you can badger someone to have a go up your end first then do. Ibble obble it! - you'll end up with whatever size you don't get now later on anyway!! Quote
SandMonster Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 Don't disregard the older arcs - mega value for money - click here to see what Carl does with his 15m Phanny: Sweet:cool: Quote

TallPaul Posted September 14, 2008 Report Posted September 14, 2008 Vortex 12m or 13 m venom ? I've got the 12m Vortex as my high wind kite (my other boarding kite being a 16m Venom). It's got a bit more adjustment available on it (turning speed and power) and is a great kite when the wind picks up. Kite sits further back in the window then the Venom 13 but has just as much depower available, is a bit better in the gusty conditions and probably not quite as lifty but still pretty damn good and quite floaty for its size. For me, it was a better fit with the V16 then the V13 seemed to be, and I've been well pleased with it since I got it. Turning speed can catch you out occassionally, it is sooo much faster than the V16 at that, and probably marginally faster than the V13 i tried. Quote
