nigel Posted July 31, 2009 Report Posted July 31, 2009 Well it's been a while since I did purchased a new (non power) kite, but here's my purple B series Rev. I even managed to get it signed by Ben when he was at the Adelaide kite fester. Quote

Must86 Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 I was lucky enough to find this Moonie Exile UL in brand new condition. What an addition to the kite bag... Highly recomended if your wind is frequently under 5mph. ~Rob. Quote
steve_hobart Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 Nice Moonie Rob! I'm really impressed with my Exile UL - in my view it is a SUL though rather than UL..I tend to fly it in the 1-4 mph range, above that it tends to pick up a fair bit of speed and be a bit more difficult to trick. At this point I change kites. I've never flown an Exile standard, but from experience with the UL I am guessing that above say 8-9 mph the standard would pick up a fair bit of speed . Great mix of old and new school tricking though! cheers steve Quote
Must86 Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 Hi Steve... Thanks... Ken makes one heck of a kite ! The standard isn't much fun in winds over 10-12mph. It has the same surprising forward drive that the UL does. I have yet to figure out how to tame it down, but just like the Sea Devil, there's no need to mess with the bridle, it flies the best the way it comes. I have the Mantis V2 for winds over 10mph, but for a vented kite, it isn't much fun once the winds go above 15mph. Maybe the Mamba vent has a higher usable range, it seems to have larger vents. The Mantis is most fun to fly with all the vent covers on, it flies like a standard. The Exile standard flies in the same range as the Zephyr. I wouldn't say that you need an Exile standard, the UL is comfortable up a little higher than 5mph, the standard doesn't take you much higher. ~Rob. Quote
steve_hobart Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 Great advice - thanks Rob. cheers steve Quote

Jared Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Hey very nice photo Jared! But does your wife know you posted her photo on the net?! She does know; she doesn't mind terribly, since she's advancing the public's awareness of sport kiting :-D Quote
Two Hands Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 Jared, i think you are both doing a sterling job of promoting this fine sport. There should be more of it! Thank your wonderful wife for her self sacrificing attitude. Quote

steve_hobart Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 My new Sea Devil Light (by Lam Hoac)...oh and cool matching shirt!! cheers steve Quote
Must86 Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 Cool, Steve, that matches my SD std. You'll have to let me know what you think of the light compared to the std. I don't know if I should get more Sea Devils, or just skip to the Fearless. In the meantime, I picked up this crazy looking kite last week. It's one of a kind, and I don't know what to expect... http://community.webshots.com/photo/ful ... 6791pXfZNd ~Rob. Quote
steve_hobart Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 Hi Rob, man - a rainbow Total Eclipse?!! Cool looking! I like the SD Light - I needed a kite to fit in between my Standard NSE and Exile UL - so I didnt need another standard - hence the light choice. It fills the gap nicely and flys very similarly to the standard in its wind range. I'm not good enough to make it work nicely in higher winds (like Lam can) - but I have seen videos of him flying a Light in all kinds of winds successfully. I guess like all lights and UL's it is a slight compromise on the standard - but in its wind range it is great (2-10 mph for me). I fly it with 5PT Lower Spreaders normally , but made up a 3PT set for 1-2 mph winds that work ok - throws the fade balance point out a little for me - but that is more skill issue than kite thing. cheers steve How do you find the Fearless wrt the SD? Must86 Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 Hey guys... It's not a Prism ! It's a custom Sabre by Wayne Knott (Dreamweaver kites). It looks like he made a bunch of 'colorful' customs, but can't find much info at all. Yeah, I guess I'm nuts for buying a kite like that, not knowing anything about how it flies. But I think it looks cool, even though most people don't like my rainbow customs. ~Rob. BTW, Steve, I would've bought your Benson instead if it came to the swap meet a day earlier. It's always the way of it, blow a bunch of kite $$$, and something better shows up the next day ! Quote
