Been asked to post this, the Website hasnt any info on it yet, But should have very soon.

Gwithian Beach Ban Summary

The landowners at Gwithian are talking about introducing restrictions to all wind powered sports and horse riding on the beach from Godrevy to Peter’s Point, including rigging kites and windsurfers. This is in theory set for an introductory trial this year over a two month period 7th July to 7th September during the hours the lifeguards are on the beach. It would mean that if you Windsurf. Kitesurf. Kite Buggy, Kiteboard, Speedsail, Blokart, ride a horse or just want to fly a kite, you will not be able to.

An advisory ban will invalidate any 3rd party insurance cover you have, and will effectively prevent respectable sailors and schools from operating while the ban is in place.

This will of course impact severely not only on your performance of your sport on this beach, but the income of those businesses operating on the beach and supplying services locally – campsites, restaurants, bars and B&B’s for example.

While there is the potential for problems with mixed beach usage, there are no recorded incidents so far. We have proposed a zoning system to allow continued use along with protection of the numerous bucket and spade brigade – many of whom of course have family members wanting to take part in the sports. It is possible that the extent and timing of the zoning system has been misunderstood, but it looks like it has been rejected.

The beach owners group state that the ban is not set in stone, and is proposed as a trial to see how it works. Unfortunately, they seem to misunderstand or ignore the insurance implications meaning the insured and respectable will be hit, and not the cowboys (inadvertent or otherwise).

While talking of cowboys, the ban will extend to horse riders who will be told to lead their horses through the area. Most horse riders will tell you they have more control while on their horse rather than leading it !

We fear this is the thin end of the wedge and if the ban is implemented and deemed successful may be continued and/or extended in future years. We need now to assemble by the end of April as much information as possible as to the likely impact of such a ban to try to prevent it being implemented. If you use the beach during this time period for wind driven sports, please tell us :

Where are you from

How many are you

Do you only do sport or are you bucket and spade as well

How often do you visit the beach for the sport

How long have you been visiting for

How long do you stay

How much do you spend on an average day or visit

Are you a member of a national organization for your sport

Do you carry 3rd party insurance for your sport

What is the likely impact of the ban on your life/sport if the ban goes ahead ?

Are you a business ? What proportion of your turnover will this ban hit ? How many man/days will you lose ? Will it put you out of business ? Will you have to lay off staff ?

Any other information you can give us that may help with keeping the beach open, please get it to us. Much as we’d also like to shout and smash things and hurl abuse, please keep it reasoned and non-abusive, and remember that all sports are in this together and we are trying to keep the beach open for our healthy pursuits.

Please feel free to email us at gbobin@speedsailuk.com, rob@speedsailukenp.net , or go to the website http://www.gwithianbeach.org.

I know it may be obvious, and I've probably missed it but why are they implementing this ban. Is it for commercial reasons or is it for health and safety or both. Have they made a statement about it?

Nice site, form duly filled. All the best, it's a lovely spot.
