martin Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 The trouble with WW is the rules & restrictions + you'll need a red bib. I accidently left mine in the car yesterday & was told to put it on. Oooops!
martin Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Did you get a fly of any Sprints last weekend AV?
avspider Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 none, as Dieter was at the Euro's. He is hoping to do a demo weekend in oct in westward ho, I am pushing for the weekend we're there, but really unsure at the moment. It may depend on when the rest of the set turn up, and then they WILL need setting up and then trimming, as I believe the 5m he has is set totally different to a factory set one - several reasons for this. One thing I have heard is that it will rip your hands off You may find that they have to be flown powered up, or change the AOA setting for flying around Southampton.
MIn Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Mine didn't like the gusty conditions at PS last week:(
martin Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Get yourself along to WW then;). Might have known you'd have one.
g0nz01599968659 Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Go kitesurfing:rolleyes: wind is much cleaner with none of that pesky land to mess it all up...... Touch wood & it'll be at the high end of what's forecast for tomoz
Komier Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Well I would quite happily go Kitesurfing if its at the high end of tomorrows forecast, get the 14m out...... but where the hell we gonna go down here in a North-easterly Cant go Hayling, Hill Head etc... maybe Poole Harbour? Or Ryde Sands I guess, but bit of a trek for 15 knots o wind If not suitable for le surfing, where will you lads be hanging out? Still don't have a landboard but might take a half daya nd go buy one if the wind is halfway decent lol.
T595 Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 i know a guy who is selling a Flexideck for £90 in southampton, i'm going to see it tomorrow pm me your email address and i'll pass it onto him.
T595 Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 Anyone think this'll fit my Dakine harness? http://www.powerkiteshop.com/accessories/peterlynnswivelpulleyharness.htm There's one for sale on here for a tenner, just wondering now if it'll fit...
martin Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 Probably not. The Dakine spreader bar loops on the ends are larger than other bars for the hooks on the harness to fit into. Other harnesses use straps to pass through the spreader bar. People i've talked to find the strop always falls out of a roller spreader which has put me off buying one in the past.
avspider Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 With a roller, for it to stay in, you need to fly more powered up
martin Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 It's when i fly in gusty wind i find my strop falls out when you have to take in the slack quickly, even with a hammer head.
g0nz01599968659 Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 If u r landboarding its no bad thing to be able to get out of the strop easily. I probably only use it 50% of the time anyway:rolleyes: I think it would be a good upgrade for anyone who flies handles... you are welcome to try mine b4 u buy one. No wind today so I learned to SUP! Got all the way round calshot spit & back, lol, only fell in 3 or 4 times:D Its a good laugh & I might see if I can get storage for one at calshot somewheres, cos it sure aint gonna fit in the clio:rolleyes:
T595 Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 Um... SUP? And thx that would be useful.
avspider Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 Well I have the video proof I've been starting the suicide gybe's!!
martin Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 You'll have to post a vid when you have a complete one so i can see what one is. I know you tried explaining to me at A08 but it's all a bit fuzzy, can't think why:rolleyes:. Looks like i'm going to Les Hemmes the weekend before the Ho :D
avspider Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 I'll put my first attempts on YouTube, but there are some on there of pete swann doing them properly. I was getting twitchy about putting the kite towards the zenith at speed, but once it's past it and towards the negative side it has no power at all There's feck all wind at LH, if it is any later, is anybody out flying??
avspider Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 Martin; http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=z_f2-7JR8AU
martin Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 I'll watch it later, i'm at work & Youtube is blocked.
avspider Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 The one I fluffed up, you can see I slide the back end a tad as i go into it, and I think I'm on the brakes a tad too. The worst thing to do is back out of it, or the kite WILL end up on the floor either beside you or upwind of you. Martin, from trying it, I don't recomend trying with a lifty kite or it will hurt, as you need the kite to be going up as fast as possible as the kite does go into the negative side giving you no power or support at all. Your welcome to try it with the yak's at some point
Komier Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Anyone gonna be flying Southampton way this evening if the wind keeps up? sotonmet showing 15-20 now and looks set to stay about most of the day.. Northerly so can't go out in the water
martin Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 AV - From what i can make out, it looks like you send the kite up, do the turn & bring it down again. I guess you're bringing the kite into the negative side of the window before the turn, using the momentom to bring the buggy round which means you must pass the kite when it's at the zenith. Then bring the kite down which should now be behind you & use the whole wind window to power yourself out of the turn? The camera would have been better if it was directly down wind, could have seen more kite movement. I'll give it a go tomorrow. WW 09.00 - 15.00 tomorrow, anyone else:D?
T595 Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 I'll fly if someone can give me a lift to LH as the wife has the car...
avspider Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Martin - you must have speed to try this; get as much kite speed as possible, send it vertical, as it gets to the zenith, head straight downwind - DO NOT slow down at all!! the kite will go way into the negative side, and just bring the kite back round. Once or twice - typically I wasn't being video'd, I did nail it right to the floor
