Marvellous, now we've got sponsered riders bigging up a complete idiot who has no regard for his own life yet that of others.

Said it before and I will say it again. When sponsored riders come out with idiotic comments such as those on this thread it reflects very badly on the companies which support them.

Ah, give him a break. He's a teenage rider that hasn't discovered responsibility yet! Indeed, when I was younger I thought it was entertaining to throw bits of sandwich into the road to see the seagulls play chicken with the cars. Now I'm married with two kids, I cringe just thinking about it.

Cause and effect and the consequences don't seem to weigh so heavily when you're younger.

Yeah, it looks very cool, but only because the rider took a risk and was lucky to pull it off that time.

flippin heck!!!!!jus watched the vid expecting something serious extreme ie jumping a motorway. they've bin jumping that road for years, there sooooo many sequence of people do that.

whats the differnence between doing that and jumpingg over a person. if u dont wanna do that. then dont do it!!!

but the person in the car is not choosing to be in the stunt, and he screws up , then this guy has blood , guts and parts all over his windshield, with his insurance, and all he was doing was driving to work.

so how do you say dont do it?

Hi,

Ali/Alex no one is saying that we/you should not push the limits nor that Kiting is not an extrme sport (though IMHO only 5% actually take it to that level).

I/Most people are saying that we should NOT involve or affect third parties!!

How often do you get annoyed when another kiter messes up and affects you (espcially if because they failed to look before jumping, either because to inconciderate to look or never learnt the basics)? Just because they are a "fellow" kiter does not mean they should be effected by inconciderate people.

So just think how a non kiter feels??

Ref the Wall jump, that was pre-planned so not the same thing.

Yes promotng the extreme side of kiting is the most "eye" catching and raises the sports profile, but it does need to be done in away that makes people realise that the "extreme" side is for people with the skill, not for those with the stupidity!!!

Remember anything extreme is now fahionable, so more people will do it because of teh image rather than because it is kiting, result they stick with it for a while till the next "Cool" fashinable thing comes along abd are not worried about what issues the cause as after all it's an "extreme" sport and hence it is cool to be rebellious??

Same goes for alot of shops, only selling kite stuff as part of their normal trade because it is fashionable? We've seen it in all areas of the retail sector, some thing cool but expensive comes along, nest thing we see is lots of cheap copies from shops/businesses cashing in.

Then they all disapear when the market is saturated and no money in it?

Leaving in their wake loads of issues caused by people just "having ago" after all how dangerouse can it be as it's "only a kite"?

People having issues as they brough cheap and inappropriate kites because they were cheap? etc etc.

So is expantion good? Yes BUT only if everything else expands at the same time.

Result bans :(

Yes Kiting is where SK8 was 10 years ago, and 10 years ago they were banning it. Now they have targets to meet so provide SK8 parks, but do you think they will provide sites for us kiters? Small SK8 park used by 100's or a large field used by a few?

No contest we will lose :(

Strange it seems to me that all who vocally support this potential dangerous and in my mind stupid stunt are all aged under 20.

Need I say more? and the comment regarding Seagulls playing chicken is a classic.

We used to glue down coins onto the road and then watch the younger school kids try to pick them up whilst missing the traffic.

Interesting that the only people that seem to think that this sort of stunt is cool are the youngsters on here. When are you guys gonna realise that pulling off mediochre tricks that are only made to look any good because you are using innocent bystanders/cars who have no wish to be any part of your stunt is totally un acceptable and irresponsible.

To me it's just as bad as happy slapping. It wouldn't surprise me if the guy had hit the car and caused an accident all on film you'd have sent it in to "You've been framed" to claim your £250 and to show off what an extreme sport kiting is.

There is no excuse for risking others safety just to have a bit of fun for yourself, there are plenty of ways to get kiting the extreme coverage it needs and is getting without endangering members of the public.

Grow up, imagine if your little brother or sister was in a car hit by this idiot, how would you feel then?

Said it before, I'll say it again. The sport is currently on lockdown from the councils. Sites are being banned. Access hangs by a thread. What we do in the next year will affect the sport for it's lifespan.

Is it worth it? Really?

How will the sport grow if there's nowhere to fly?

good video all u geeks who think its giving the sport a bad image be quiet.Thats the only way are sport is gonna get bigger with extreme stuff like that.

Thats cr@p!!!

We have seen so many bans being brought in due to t0ssers not caring about others, do you really think that peopel just copying what they have seen will help?

Bigger does not mean better, where are all these peopel going to fly? More kiters means less room. And to this the number of locations is getting smaller means we are scr3wed. If we want it to grow and get bigger we need to make sure it is done safely. That does not mean people can not push the limits or be "extreme" just means they have to do it in a way so as not to affect others!!

For some reason peopel think being "extreme" is jsut doing things with out thinking. Look at real "extreme" sports people. They do not get to the levels they do by being stupid, yes the push the limits but they do so in a controlled manned. Be that years of training and experience by starting small and slowly building up or by putting precuations in place.

Not just going to shop and buying the biggest and best and then jumping in front of someone!!

If I remember rightly not long ago you were getting worried as a local beach was bringing in rules that under 16's had to be accompanied so you would not be able to kite? Now your saying we need more stupid people to raise the image? Raise the image and all that will happen is more bans UNLESS it is raised in the right way.

Just cause some one can pull cool tricks does not mean they are good kiters.

The jump he did was nothing special, the only thing that made it look "extreme" was the fact there were cars there. So he was relying on luck.

Yes most that in favour of this are the youger fliers the ones with no responcibilities yet. Yes you may think that the older fliers are "geeks" for being worried about this sort of thing. But remember there is a reason why older people are still alive? Also it is these "older" fliers who helped develope the sport so that you youngsters can get as good as you are.

You want the sport to grow, great help it grow but do that in a way that will not get it banned.

Jon

For the younger and seemingly hard of thinking (or not having the patience to read and comprehend what spooky has patiently written several times above), here is a brief summary:-

- Doing a 100ft jump off a cliff with triple kiteloops and the risk of splatting into the rocks

- Jumping people/cars where the other people have no choice about being there

Spooky, well said that man.

kitelunatic if you are really 16 years old, then let me point out that when I started kitesurfing you were only 10 years old and still wanting comfort cuddles and kisses from your mummy.

nout wrong with comfort cuddles!!!

More seriously, although the video is impressive, as has been said many times before, its unfair and unreasposible to put other people at risk from your sport. everyone likes to get a bit of air and look cool, theres plenty of things to jump over out there which don't effect anyone else.

I thought this one deserved a thread all it's own.......

http://www.semnozkitesurfing.com/data_htm/media_videos/michel.asx

How to play with the cars in the snow..... and get away with it!:D

The shot is from Hardangervidda (no1 snowkite spot) There is a road crossing the mountain platau and therefore giving kiters access to large areaes for kiting on every wind direction.

Useally most kiters are very careful with the road and cars, but there is almost no limits of what you can make people do when there is a camera around...

Cars often slow down to watch the kiters. Normal speed there is 50-60 mph.

Kite safe. Use your head.

Actually, its mostly the sponsored riders, not the under 20's. Its kinda crap that people like that are chosen the represent the sport
