The BFG Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Hi Guys, Need a bit of advice, while setting up yesterday I noticed a bit of what can only be described as a rupture in the line? These have only be used twice for about an hour. They are ozone lines. Do I need to change them? How has this happened? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The BFG Quote
beamerboy36 Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Sometimes lines will look like they are falling apart when they get twisted...the easiest way to untwist them is to hang them off a big cliff with a weight on the end. Failing this running your finger nails down them will untwist them quite a lot...you'll be surprised how much!! The reason for twists usually is down to how you pack/unpack your lines - my brand new flexi lines looked a mess when I flew my Proteam/Super stack the first time but it was only twists and all was well when these were removed. Adrena1in Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 When you say "rupture", do you mean a bit of a loop? Flying lines are generally made up of many individual strands, braided into a single line. It's possible for something sharp to hook in to the line and separate out some of these strands, pulling and stretching them a bit so that they appear to be rupturing out. I suppose it is going to create a very tiny weak-spot in the lines, (depending on how much percentage has ruptured out). I imagine it might work itself back in when you put the lines under tension...i.e. when you fly the kite again. Is it on one of the main lines or the brake lines? Quote
The BFG Posted February 28, 2005 Author Report Posted February 28, 2005 Thanks guys, It's on the main lines. as for size??? no more than 7-8 mm so v small. Shall I just leave it or should I try to do anything about it? Quote
The BFG Posted February 28, 2005 Author Report Posted February 28, 2005 Oh yeah, it looks like a small fray, but coming out of the line? Quote
nobby Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 this sounds familiar to me. i'll try and get a piccy up of what mine looky likey. Quote
The BFG Posted March 1, 2005 Author Report Posted March 1, 2005 Thanks Nobby, Have flown with them again since, and no probs as yet, but it was in very light winds so I'm guessing not under tooooo much tension? Is the line likely to go BANG when least expected? Quote
cassiewoofer Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 Know exactly what ya mean, if you try and stretch the lines hard and rub them it might go back inside the sleeving. the rub whilst under tension will re-spread the sleeving. All the strain is taken by the inner fibres (that have popped out) so unless they get damaged whilst outside there's no change in strength, my 5.5 firebee bridle is full of them! Quote
The BFG Posted March 2, 2005 Author Report Posted March 2, 2005 Thanks Cassie, I'll give um a rub;) Quote
cassiewoofer Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 My dog can fight your dog anyday give HIM a rub from me Quote
The BFG Posted March 2, 2005 Author Report Posted March 2, 2005 And she's a great big softy;) . Hates the kite, especially when the lines start to sing;) Her Mum aint much better either.............. and their meant to be gun dogs! Pah! scared of their own shadow. Quote

nobby Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 sorry for crap pic, best my camera would do. http://web.ukonline.co.uk/nbones/images/line.jpg the line next to the blob feels full and round like normal - it's like something has grown on the side of it. these lines are near new, the rest of them look perfik. The BFG Posted March 4, 2005 Author Report Posted March 4, 2005 Yeah, that's it. I'll try and feenit back in next time I fly, which wont be this weekend as it's my daughters B day on Sat and Mums day on Sunday Quote
nobby Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 anyone else had similar? where's spooky with an opinion? Quote
The BFG Posted March 15, 2005 Author Report Posted March 15, 2005 Have tried to feed it back in but not much luck:confused: the line around the area seems ok. Am i now left with a weak point? Quote
.TheBeest. Posted March 20, 2005 Report Posted March 20, 2005 Iv had this exact same problem with my Firebees bridles. The sheath on the outers of the line has riped and the inside bit of the line has burst out. I phoned the dude who I got it off, he contacted Rhombus and they said that it is not unusual and it does not effect performance or make the kite weaker. Chances are if you try to poke it in it wont make things better so if I were you id just leave it be. You havnt got a weak point! Quote
