I was surprised how well kitesurfing worked with classical, opera etc. A welcome change from the usual frantic head banging rock performed by bands we've never heard of! No way the worst, Loads of great jumping action and video from the jetski camera man The worst vids are the ones just filmed from the beach - plenty of those to download from the web... zzzzzz Quote

I look forward to seeing Space Monkeys 2. The thing I liked about Flow was it showed some of the other side of our sport, pumping up, waiting for wind etc, not just the flash stuff. Flow is a reminder that we shouldn't take ourselves too seriously, and shows that the best guys also get it wrong. http://www.flexifoil.com/community/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif All this choreographed to great music can't be bad. Not arguing, us old gits enjoy watching other old gits, like Robbie Naish. If only I could be that good.... If being older means having good taste I'm glad I'm not a teenager anymore. :D Quote

Paul Burton Posted December 30, 2004 Author Report Posted December 30, 2004 thanks i am glad i am not the only one who likes it,good bit is when there is no music just the sound of the rider and the board as it spits water out the back or lands with a splat.when i kite surf i never hear music like on some dvd's it's just 100% real sound and natural to (maybe i am getting old or maybe i just love being out there in the peace and quite) mmmmmmm. from burt Quote
jjojjas Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 great..........looks like I'm an old git now...... Guess I'd better ask the wife to knit me a new kite... Quote
Ned1599968590 Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 Apologies too Ned who's obviously a teenager with good taste! thank mate the dvd has just got style that cant be competed with in the modern day films that are "ALL ACTION!" more like all repetitive tricks! there nothing that sets other dvd`s out at the moment apart from each other at least in this one you see/ feel something diffrent when you watch it. NuTtY Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 This DVD is in a class of its own, I can't believe they gave it away for free! Totally ambient. I can even get away with putting it on for background noise when we have a house full! (Most unlike the missus) Quote
Ned1599968590 Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 they are trying to promote flow 2 that is just come out thats why it was free Quote
justin1599968620 Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 I'm going resurrect this thread as i have just watched my one. WTF I'm coming from the viewpoint of wanting to know how people pull off the fabulous tricks and learning myself. What a crock of crap, harsh i know but talk about the triumph of style over substance. Blatant editing overide, if i'd have been the rider in the sequence by the wrecked ship where obviously the landing was toeside and a wipeout(not heelside carve looking good) i'd have been well hacked off. My view is i want to learn every time and this is clearly an advert with no intention of sharing knowledge. I spent the entire time with super slow mo on the dvd, show me one sequence where you learned something(other than the guy with no straps jumping off the board mid carve and going heel to toeside, that was special...............) Good music granted, a year old granted, big names granted, exotic locations granted.... disappointed unquestioned. I'm a tightwad in terms of wanting to buy dvd's on kitesurfing as i don't trust anything with the price of £30 not shown to me anywhere and lives behind a plastic coating. This has proved beyond doubt i'm right. i could video stuff where i live which is a hundred times better and normal people can relate to it straight away. The dvd is strictly backround music, now Ground to Air that's a different story ps i didn't think it was all that but i wouldn't mind kiting there............ Quote

I think that's the whole point of Flow, it's entertainment not instruction. As entertainment it succeeds brilliantly. It is after all, about lifestyle, and I take the point that it won't float everyones boat. There are loads of other DVD's that show endless repetitive tricks, and there's nothing wrong with that either. What's wrong with owning both types and enjoying them for different reasons?..... Quote

marqueemark Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 As for Disappointing DVDs I have purchased, I think that the Naish 13 Days one is **** poor - Nothing inspirational to watch in the way of kiting, the interesting bit is the crazy lofting.... And to make things worse - the magazine stance gave it away free to their french readers Other ones to avoid are Arriba - about 10 - minutes long, complete rip off Kiteboardnig 177 - Just poor Quote
alan ainsdale Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 flow was disapointing glad it was free and i didnt buy it far toomuch life style and not enough action. as for 13 days and nothing inspirational did you miss the cliff jumping fantastic film. watched space monkeys 2 the other day lots of wicked wave action. Space Monkeys 1&2, Ten4, Slingshot, Strung Out (old but still contains ace wave riding) and Metropolis are excellent. As for the cliff jumping in 13 days - bollox. It pails into insignificance compared to any footage of Chasta snow kiting. If I wanted a DVD of inspirational cliff jumping, I'd of bought a BASE jumping one. Quote
alan ainsdale Posted January 20, 2005 Report Posted January 20, 2005 cliff jumping is the way to go havent tryed it yet well not with a kite ive done some jumps of betsycoed bridge and cable bay cliff and thats mad. but id like to give it a go it inspiered me maby the sand dunes at fomby point on a 10m tide who knows?
