AliB Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 the pic of the ozone guy has a leashless bar. it has a safety though Quote
Westwood Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 when flying on handles you expect him to wear kite killers? if youve tried grabbing with kite killers you will know they are a pain in the ass. Quote
the_lone_wolf Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 when flying on handles you expect him to wear kite killers? if youve tried grabbing with kite killers you will know they are a pain in the ass.attach them to your harness then - a leash might be a "pain in the ass" - you wear one so you are responsible for your kite:mad: Quote
Tempest_Riders Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 why is it accrptable for a pro to ride without a leash but you frouned upon if you dont at our/my level?? I take it when some one frowns on you, you get upset? Smack them with your kite, they will stop frowning on you then. It will just turn to screaming. If you hit them with the kite without a leash, you can just bail the scene from there. No kite attatched means a quicker get away. Things could be worse, you could fly all day without a leash or kite killers in a spot like mine.....problem is, it is more fun to fly with a group. Conform to the group or be an outcast. What fun choices. Quote
rasga Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 That goshen pic looks like it was taken before KK's were widely known about! Quote
Neil aka KC Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 unfortunatly NED, some people have nothing better to do than bitch and wine... each to there own. if you hurt your self then thats your own fault and i acept that if it happens to me. This bollox about you will get the sport banned is nothing more than a recored getting a bit thin with me... I would be more inclinded to concentrate on the shop offering fcuking stupid advise like flying on water in offshore and getting bigger kites... Quote
Westwood Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 i wear a leash.. but kite killers are different. you dont know what circumstances the pics are taken in. if its a big empty area, and the rider is trying new tricks and finding the leash gets in his way, then there is no harm in taking it off. im sure if the riders are pros it means they know what they are doing. The Flyin Scotsman Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 I dont see how you can complain to be honest. I wouldn't hesitate to ride leashless if it dangled in the way too much (like the Frenzy03 ones did). I've never had to use a QR in an emergency in about 3 years of kiting. I know my limits, if its gusty I very rarely go out with much power at all and when trying new tricks I always make sure theres plenty of space downwind and no-ones gonna have to do an emergency gybe or whatever to get out of the way. No doubt these guys are the same. Kev Quote
air stiffler Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 glad i had my leash on yesterday when my de-power line broke or my kite would have ended up in the centre of town!!! Quote
beardyjim Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 Just while we are muttering about safety, the latest powerkite mag is yet again filled with unlidded riders. I know I look like a nob with my lid on but surely they should be responsible enough to let me look at pro riders looking like nobs as well and then I could at least think I was in cool band of uncool looking peeps. I think my subscription runs out soon and before anyone tells me to vote with my cash I am seriously thinking about it. JIM (sorry if this thread is going on in one of the other area's but its monday morning and I ain't got that far yet.....) Quote
rjw Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 The really bad aspect of the posted pics is the guy without the helmet, that is unforgiveable. The guy with a full face helmet is on an 04 frenzy, the safety system on this kite was specifically designed for leashless riding. There is a quick release incorporated into the depower bit, as well as a chickenloop bail out if you really need it as well. So criticising him for riding leashless is a bit like giving an F1 driver a speeding ticket for setting a fastest lap in a grand prix. on the subject of PK 9, if you read the article about team wasted in west wales they have lids on the whole time (with the exception of one buggy pic). I was also lucky enough to catch up with them at Broad haven, and they all rode with lids on. And these are guys at the top of our sport, setting a good example. Quote

Simon Bailey Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 If this is a "WHY" thread, can somebody explain to me why we are happy to put up with having to dick about obtaining insurance, which is essentially the same policy, from either the FED or PKSF/BBC? Who wins out of this situation.....PERKINS SLADE, the brokers.....hell I 'd love to have a product that I can sell twice to the same person..... Who loses.....US, the kiters.....DO THE MATHS!!!!!!!! This is not a sore point with me at all......... Quote
Alex Brown Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 lol its so funny, if a "pro" isnt wearing a hemet, and you think he should, then wear one. its your choice weather you want your head broke or not. just get on with your flying for me, i now use a handle pass leash that goes from the back of my harness to my chicken loop, doesnt kill the kite or even depower it, but then its my choice/reasponsibility and i can control it. i think people need to get of the forums/internet and kiteboard more.... alex brown Quote
Ned1599968590 Posted November 15, 2004 Author Report Posted November 15, 2004 oh yes becaquse i enjoy to kite in the pich black with no wind on a mounday nite?! lol Quote
Ally Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 cool it kids. if you ride on bar system similar to flysurfers with an integrated spinning leash then there is absolutely no excuse for not using one. same with blades on a four line bar, put your kite killer on your spreader and viola, two hands free:) with different bar systems you should always use a leash if there are other people around who could be put at risk if you release your kite. if theres not its really a matter of personal preference, just be responsible and respect other people wether they're flying or not. handles is different. attaching kite killers to your spreader doesnt really work and keeping them on your risks makes and tricks which involve taking your hands away(most of them then) impossible. again personal preference. it does not mean that if you fall you will kill people, look at the end of lewis' day2(i think) x-zone vid. at the end he falls but his kite doesnt fly off and reak havok, it comes down and stays down, happy:) on the helmets issue, if you dont want to wear a lid dont. i know several people who dont and they dont come across as especially irresponsible. just be aware that its your life:D phew Quote
rjw Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 there was a similar thread on here about helmets some time ago. One of the main points that came out of it is that, in the current climate of bans, we are all responsible for portraying the sport in a positive way. If somebody, anybody, pro or not hurts themselves badly and one of the reasons is that they were riding lidless it reflects badly on the sport as a whole. This could then lead to further bans because of a perceived danger. You don't have to wear a lid, its a free country (just about) but by not wearing one you might at some point in the future screw up the sport for everybody else. Skiers, snowboarders, skateboarders, bmx riders, inline skaters all visibly wear lids on TV and in magazines. Primarily from a safety aspect, but also i am sure because it makes the sport in question look better in the eyes of the public. Quote
Neil aka KC Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 it makes the sport in question look better in the eyes of the public. That is a very good point you make... maybe the PKM should maybe look at that as a rule... as this mag is seen by anyone, and i've seen plenty of photos without safty gear on.. Same for manufature websites.. also, and videos/dvds etc Quote
anna1599968635 Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 i used to bmx alot when i was 20-25 i used to enjoy raceing... now the guys at the local race site would laugh load's coss i always had my lid on....now they stop laughing when i slamed badly one day and the lid in question died ....it died but my head did'nt. but like i pointed out to these kids its my choice to wear knee pads, shin gards and a lid. i never whore elbow pads cos i hate the things but i have payed the price for not 2 chiped elbows!!!....but i still will never wear em stupid i kno but its my call. but yer the mags should show pics of riders wearing lids etc it might help... but then again when u have a kid that thinks he's immortal all the pics under the sun showing there fav riders with lids and pads on still wont get em to put pad's and lid on.
