rtr_star Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 I'm not part of te usual leeds crowd but I'm up visiting my folks and need to get out of the house so would be glad to meet up with someone at roundhay. where abouts in the park to you park and where abouts do you fly? Quote
paulriggers Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 there's a long stretch of quiet road on the opposite side to the main road past roundhay. just fly usually rowards the skateboard park end of the park. just look out for 3.5m bullet red. should be there from 2 onwards. Quote
asid_promo1 Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 anybody flaying this evening - if i have time and wind is good, i might go up to tinshill top for an hour or 2 Quote
Lovekylie Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 what time are you going up:confused: Quote
rickp101 Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 I was gonna go out tonight. Was thinking about going straight to Pontefract after work but if you are gonna try Tinshill could try that out. I leave work at 5, if I hear from you before then I will go to Tinshill or Roundhay if not will probably head to Ponte as I went on Saturday for first time and it was quality. EDIT: Not going to Ponte now so will probably be at Roundhay tonight from about 5.45 onwards until the wind goes. Quote
gregh Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 anyone out at Roundhay yesterday? went for a walk with the family and from the small hills near me in Shadwell could so 2 or 3 kites poking above the trees at Roundhay! cheers, greg Quote
rickp101 Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I went out in the morning but it started raining so packed up and went home then ventured to Ponte in the afternoon. There were about 5 kites out Sunday but it was very gusty, I had the 3m out and either struggled to get going or got yanked off the board. Although thats cos I still suck As I live quite close I am out on Roundhay quite a lot whenever there is a bit of wind in evening or weekend so come and say hello if you are down there or passing (Red 3m Samurai or Blue 5m Crossfire). I am struggling to get the Crossfire set up just right at the moment (been told the trick I think now so waiting for more wind) so I will probably be the one with a kite on the floor looking puzzled. gregh Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 wind looks promising for Wed/Thur PM force 3-4 according to http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/ukweather.htm cheer,s greg Quote
rickp101 Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Yeah I will be watching the wind when I get home so may be out after about 7 tomorrow if there is any and after 6 if there's any Thursday. Rich Quote
gregh Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Looking promising for this evening......anyone out? I'm hoping for a quick fly early evening 5:45/6pmish for an hour or so before the missus goes out! Quote
rickp101 Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 You heading to Roundhay? I was thinking of going over to Pontefract straight from work as I work south side of the centre so can jump straight onto the motorway. If I decide against that and go to Roundhay will keep my eyes open for you as I would be getting there about 5.45. Quote
gregh Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 yup Roundhay I reckon, 10m Frenzy or 4.5m Little Devil. cheers, greg Quote
Spook Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Come on then, what's the secret with Roundhay? Is it always gusty as hell or is there ever a smooth wind there? Everytime I've flown there I've been lofted and then dumped. Quote
gregh Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 no secret, mostly always gusty, just the nearest big open space! Quote
Spook Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 I haven't had a single flight where I'm confident with the conditions there as yet, and I'm fairly used to gustiness. Quote
gregh Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 yeh I'm rapidly thinking the best bet is York racecource for me. Quote
rickp101 Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 Yeah I wanna try York sometime. Went to Ponte racecourse tonight and it was good for about an hour then the wind died. What's the deal with York racecourse then? Obviously I have to check there is no race meeting on beforehand but assuming there isnt can we go at anytime? Is there a certain place we can/can't ride. Where can we park? I assume that this is probably all obvious when I get there but dont want to turn up and park or ride somewhere we arent supposed to. Quote
gregh Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 I've only been to York once, people appeared to fly almost opposite the main stands, the guys who fly there regularly hang out here: http://www.kite-fantastic.co.uk/community/forum/viewforum.php?f=13 cheers, greg Quote
gregh Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 Local forecast said winds picking up this afternoon, I'm due a few hours off after a mega long week last week. Possibly heading to Roundhay or somewhere else........ cheers, Greg Quote
rickp101 Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 I was gonna head somewhere after work at 5pm. Was thinking of Pontefract. Just read a post this morning recommending Bedquilts in Adel to someone asking about places to fly in W. Yorkshire. You tried there? I am happy to go to Roundhay if I fancy a quick fly from home as I live right beside it but from work it is only 15 minutes to Ponte and I find the conditions are usually a lot better there. It would be good if Bedquilts was less gusty than Roundhay as it is also close to where I live. Quote
asid_promo1 Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 tinshill top might be a good place. I would be up for that if antone else is. i could get there for around 5.45 its very high up and not that gusty. if not i would love to come to ponte but i would need a lift and havent got my board with me as im on my bike! adam Quote
gregh Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 Bedquilts is worse than Roundhay for wind, surrounded by trees and houses with trees in the middle and goalposts! I'd like to try Ponte though, never been there and getting hacked off with Roundhay's wind! There is Tinshill Top, 5 mins *up* the hill from Adel, which may be good as it's higher? Trouble is it's dark by 7:30ish nowadays..... regards, Greg Quote
gregh Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 PS How come your selling the Frenzy Adam, you've only just got it!! Quote
asid_promo1 Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 the usual... NEED BIGGER! could be good today though. would like a 10m ooo you bringing yours? love to have a go! tinshill top should be good. i think we should keep it local only because of the traffic and the retards wanting petrol although most petrol stations have around an 8 day supply, causing more traffic than usual. Quote
gregh Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 Yup, main aim of getting out is to use the 10m!! Are there footie posts up at Tinshill? Any dog dirt to worry about? Not tried it, but it's closer than Ponte so up for a go there! did anyone see a local forecast? seems to be getting more and more overcast by the hour.... regards, greg Quote
