Caramboo Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 Arrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhh - someone nicked my van last night and guess what, my buggy and board were in the back. Kites safe though. Details here. So, no wheels to get to the beach, no wheels to use even if I had. Arse! Quote
Siz Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 What was redcar like today? It got quite rainy in the park so didnt stay for long. Quote
paulriggers Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 It was awesome, vastly overpowered hence took turns in a harness being weighted down by Charlie & Kit and flying the kites 6 foot in the air. Class!!!! Quote
kit Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 What a day...mental! I agree with Paul about the highlight being getting a huge amount of power with my little 3m buster, and some pretty big airs. I was just glad I had two people weighing me down! Caramboo, nightmare about the van. Hope it gets sorted, somehow. Was there any wind out Roundhay? Quote
Caramboo Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 Ah well, still no sign of my van or kit so I think I can safely wave bye bye to it. I now find myself needing replacements. Hmmmm, currently thinking V-Max and Flexdeck. Cor! Just need to find the lolly now! Quote
flydad Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 So, no wheels to get to the beach, no wheels to use even if I had. Arse! so whats wrong with using it? Hard luck on the van front Boo, hope you get something sorted soon Quote

_me_ Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 PS. Did someone mention freebie t-shirts??!! Quote
kit Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 Welcome back Maria! Hard luck about no internet connection...very frustrating. I'll be up to Roundhay this morning, bit of wind and the sky's clear at the mo. I think Siriol has some free T-shirts, if there are any left! I'm up for flying any day this week if others are going. Quote
gregh Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 There snow on the ground where I live which is 20 mins away from Roundhay, could be fun if Roundhay is covered in snow, shame I'm working! Quote
kit Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 Wow! What an awesome session! Roundhay had a thin covering of snow, and to start off with there was no rain or snow in the air. I pulled my kite up and started shooting along the ground really really fast! It was more like skiing than skudding! Several races of over a couple of hundred metres followed by laborious dragging back of the kite ensued until I was too exhausted, the kite too sodden, the snowfall to heavy and the wind too strong and gusty to go on. I even managed some (accidental as usual) 'snow airs'. I need to do that again! Quote
DreadedTom Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 Me again Managed to crash my car a while back and am far too lazy to cycling to roundhay, and the thought of catching busses scares me, hence i havent really been up to much lately(apart from gitting pish wet through cycling back from morrisons this afternoon... was not a happy bunny). BUT, my last exam is tomorow and should be getting my lovely car back on thurs, so will be around at the wkend if anyones up to owt. Will prob be at roundhay about midday on sat depending on windypoos if anyones playing? Tom ps hey maria, u go climbing? wouldnt be a member of leeds uni clim-bling club by any chance? Quote
_me_ Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 Yes i do and yes I am!! Do i know you? So anyone flying tomorrow or thurs? Mob no above if you are or I'll check this tomorrow. If not will be around uni fields Quote
crazygeezer Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 Hi there guys, Currently living in Sheffield and trying to find new people and places to fly on a regular basis. Just realised Leeds is only about a 40 minute drive from me and I was thinking of taking a drive up to this Roundhay place to see what it's like and meet a few new people. Any information on what Roundhay is like and where it actually is would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Jason Quote
Siz Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 Hey, i do have t-shirts and when this nasty linguistics exam is over tomorrow i can go kiting again and distribute them! Only have 4 though and in slightly odd sizes... I am unfortunately limited to bus for getting places too, which is a mission and a half from where i live to roundhay park. Is anyone planning anything radical for this weekend? Siz Quote
kit Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 I've just found out one of my mates is into kiting, and hope to take her up to Roundhay tomorrow, weather permitting. If anyone's up for going, do come along. Hiya Jason, Roudhay is quite a large park, with a lake, and ample room for kiting. There are trees surrounding, but there's enough clear space for that not to be a problem. Only problem is you're not strictly allowed any wheels, so if a warden comes you'll get a telling off! Here's a map: http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=433000.999999788&Y=439000.952305764&width=700&height=400&gride=432959.999999788&gridn=439237.952305764&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=GB&addr1=&addr2=Roundhay+Park&addr3=Leeds&pc=&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&zm=0&out.x=7&out.y=5&scale=10000 It's right next to 'tropical world', which is signposted. Don't have any plans for the weekend, but I'm open to persuasion. Tides are a bit nasty, so Redcar is probably out. Kit Quote

crazygeezer Posted January 20, 2005 Report Posted January 20, 2005 Thanks for that Kit, Most helpfull, I'm away at Blackrock Sands this weekend, but think I will have to try Leeds out the following weekend. Is there a quite a few of you fly at Redcar on a regular basis then? How far is that, a couple of hours? The aprk wardens don't worry me anyway, I seem to spend more time on my arse, than I do on my board. Quote
DreadedTom Posted January 20, 2005 Report Posted January 20, 2005 Yes i do and yes I am!! Do i know you? I tend to hang around at the packhorse on a wednesday(but not been for a while actually) an go climbing with a couple of people, but not officially a member.Long hair, glasses, tend to look like ive just got out of bed......thats me:cool: Anywho, got my car back, all shiny and complete with a little smelly thing hung on the rear-view mirror.so should be out this wkend, though only to roundhay.(ps where is the pond in the park?any ducks?something to do when i get there and discover its too windy:D ) Tom Quote
asid_promo1 Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 Crazygeezer - if you look at the first page of this thread i posted a few pictures taken at roundhay park. I think greg is on one of the picys. Its a great place to kite as long as its not too busy. love to fly there this weekend but i am working - crap! Adam Quote
Spook Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 If anyone's around not this weekend but next weekend on the Saturday (29th) then Cat and I might be at Roundhay. Quote
Siz Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 Ok, message to all kiters at leeds uni - we're going to try and set up an luu kite society. Not quite sure how it will work out, but its worth a try. It will have to be carefully thought out - we will obviously need to get people kiting safely. If anyones interested in getting involved let us know - the more people we get who already know about kiting the better. We're having a meeting tonight, then if anyone else is interested we can have another one soon. Siz Quote
