Tom S1599968609 Posted July 8, 2004 Report Posted July 8, 2004 POSTED ON BEHALF OF SEAN (AIRJAM, CORNWALL) Ok, its been a hard slog of council meetings since they tried it on with an outright kite ban at easter... roumors have abounded since but we do have a result tanks to the RNLI and Carrick district council overriding the local parrish council. Below is the new Kite Zone map which will be going up as signage at all access points to Perranporth very soon. http://www.airjam.co.uk/Perran-Kite-Zones.jpg Please bear in mind: This is a map showing ZONES where kiting is NOT allowed... not showing dedicated take the pi$$ kite areas so please still use common sense and respect other beach users in the areas that kites are tolerated. This is a TRIAL... If we abuse it a TOTAL BAN will be swift. There are still local riders who should be setting an example tearing up the high tide in front of the Wateringhole... please don't ! This regulation applies at ALL TIMES ... ALL YEAR ROUND, not just when the lifeguards are there. LAND KITES at the Perranporth end have been the root of the problem so if someone could please post the info on the Flexifoil forum that would be good. Please spread the word as much as possible as Perran is a popular tourist location with a lot of visiting kiters. Never know, a friend of a friend may end up here on holiday so a little knowladge will help us all. Cheers, Seany AJ. Landsat_TM 1 Quote
Freelander Posted July 8, 2004 Report Posted July 8, 2004 Hello Will be coming up to N. Cornwall in early September to do a spot of buggying on the fine Cornish beaches.. Please convey a large thankyou to those involved in the access negotiations for Perranporth - top marks for over-turning a total ban. Lets hope people stick to the spirit of the agreement (& in turn provide another case study of how kite sports and 'normal' beach usage can be compatible in this sue or be sued world). Thanks again Steve Quote
ollie Posted July 8, 2004 Report Posted July 8, 2004 is it clear from perriansands to west where you can bugggy or just don't buggy where the sign are cause will be down there in three weeks time shame i would have like to buggy from shops back to perriansands is watergate bay ok to buggy on or is there bans there as well Quote
raptor Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 i believe watergat bay is privately owned so the council has no say on what gets banned on or off the beach Quote
ziggi Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 You may need to check when you come down, but I've heard verbally that there is ban on Kite based sports 3 hr's either side of high tide; I can't see how you could land based kite at 3 hr's either side anyway. I would just like to add both my thanks and support for all of those invloved in stopping the ban, we are facing bans and we need more people; your efforts are appreciated. If ever I can help, please ask. Thank-you to you all. HD462 Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 Just to let you know, there's a couple of threads about this, the one people seem to be posting to is here: http://www.flexifoil.com/community/forums/showthread.php?t=44694 where Sean from Airjam has been answering questions about it. Quote
Caution Posted July 17, 2004 Report Posted July 17, 2004 A quick bump up for the Kitezone map Also.. I just got back from a kitesurf trip to Wales to the news that some visiting kiters were at Perranporth the other day being filmed by the BBC kiting in the nogo zone... when approached by the lifeguards with the info and map with a request to move they apparently informed the RNLI that they could kite anywhere they liked and carried on regardless. Later on they turned up in the shop and had a chat with Jamie there who explained all our hard work and efforts to secure kite access to the beach and why we all need to pull together to keep the zones... they still insisted they could kite where they wanted to and didn't care about our local issues If anyone hears of or knows of these gays, sorry, guys that have been at Perranporth and no doubt will be bragging about being filmed etc. please feel free to name and shame... these are exactly the sort of muppets who will kill kiting for everyone. Peaseout. Sean. Quote
buggyxl Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 Similar thing at Saunton last week, spoke to a boarder setting up close to the access point about the "red post rule", told me he knew about the rule and will wander beyond the post when he's ready. Seems rules is for some not all !! Quote
