the_lone_wolf Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 pmsl, i should be selling brownies on this forum not hoodys. will save one for ya, might even post it on monday if you're lucky lol, get yourself in a big box with all the kites (and a brownie), have a few days off like the boss promised you (but never expected you to take) and come to the island - the tides are better next week too:D Quote
dannywooly Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 Will be there Sunday at about 10:30, haven't been out in ages and my bearings are new, so if i yell get out of the way i mean it! See ya all there. Danny Quote
Lem Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 Tides mean that a very! early or afternoon visit is the best bet. Latest wind models show a westerly all weekend. Very little on sat, picking up to 8 knots (perfect psycho weather!) on sun. However, bran always gets those extra few knots late afternoon if it's been warmish. Sky-blu - going up sat and sun afternoon. No prob with a lift either day. My mother has complained however that her new kite does not have a mean enough name. Amidst all the frenzies, blades and psychos she feels that a 'symphony' might not quite cut it! Prob. have to get her an LD for her next kite! Quote
Lem Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 TLW - what's IOW like for m'boarding spots? Always meant to go, but never go round to it. Sailed in Cowes harbour onmce and that's about it! Quote
the_lone_wolf Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 TLW - what's IOW like for m'boarding spots? Always meant to go, but never go round to it. Sailed in Cowes harbour onmce and that's about it! very good, not as good as westward ho! but the beach at ryde is massive (avec puddles to avoid which anfirtunately crop up in different places every day according to the speed of the tide:rolleyes: - but they are easy enough ti jump/submarine through, just check the depth, tried one yeaterday nearly went in up to my knees:eek: ) - also there is a huge open field nr chale big enough for buggying which is fine in all but a direct onshore due to the cliffs being so massive - also a wealth of smaller beaches where the tourists never get to in the summer;). also if you are into kitesurfing then you are never more than 30mins drive from the nearest cross/onshore wind, which is always clean - like i said it's not perfect but i could think of way worst places to live:) pic of ryde sands at ~half tide - the whole beach is about 4/5 times the length of what the pic shows - and thats just the bit i have explored, you can easily to a mile either side of your kit if you have a near onshore (NE): http://www.iwcam.gothere.uk.com/iwcam/2001Walks/010512-Ryde/DSCF0410.jpg Quote
Sky-Blu Posted March 26, 2004 Author Report Posted March 26, 2004 i'll take a lift on saturday if you're going. but i will warn you that my kite bag is stupidly big. just packed it all up and its HUGE. if there is room for me, bag and a board then i'll supply brownies. also, any chance of being a real bugger and asking if its possible to pop to the sailing shop in brancaster staithe (about 2 miles down the road) to get a bit so i can fly the psycho. need to adapt it so i can fly it in a climbing harness, just need a d shackle. if not then i'll continue blagging Quote
Lem Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 The car's got a huge boot, with plenty of room for moosive kites Northshore - no probs.. do you not have a proper harness? Quote
Lem Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 the sailing shop in brancaster staithe (about 2 miles down the road) I think you forget - I grew up here Sky-Blu 1 Quote
Sky-Blu Posted March 26, 2004 Author Report Posted March 26, 2004 just checking mate, most dont know its there. ive got a proper harness but not using it for 2 reasons: i like the freedom of a climbing harness and its a lot safer. the other is that a mate has got it at the mo so cant get my hands on it. just need a link to attach to the new depower line ive stuck in as the whichrd wont fit through the stitched loop. the bag is disturbingly big, you'll soon see brownies and beer may have to be in order for all your troubles lately Lem 1 Quote
Sylenz Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 We will be there wind permitting. Got a couple of new tricks to get dialled so a steady 12mph would be good(but not very likely!!). I missed out on the brownies last time,so do i get 2 this time?!! Quote
NorthNorfolk Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 I should be able to make it on sunday. May try out my new monkey if there's enough room on the beach. (just picked up the re-sleeved lines today ) Quote
