npeac Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 assuming ur wearingt he thickest gloves you can stand already. try taking your hand off the bar when you can and just let it hang, gravity will do the rest or you can assist by swinging your arm to provide centrifugal force. best done as soon as you start as opposed to waiting for your pinkies to get cold before starting. a heated bar???? sonicseal Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 gingerbob - How is she gonna warm his hands up? I know how his harness might raise in temperature though. Quote
AliB Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 find some sort of waterproof gloves and put them hand warmers in that stay hot for summit like 7 hours Quote
Filthy Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 Seriously?? Thought neoprene diving gloves would do???? Quote
sonicseal Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 I find Ron Thompson fishing gloves to be very good, but I don't kitesurf yet. They do definatly work well on the landboard though. Quote
AliB Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 slightly different on a landboard u dont have feckin freein water all around u Quote
Rake Posted December 22, 2003 Report Posted December 22, 2003 Tried those heated pads the last for 7 seconds - didnt work at all. Really need to find a solution to this one. Got the chil blanes real bad too on sunday. hought they were going black in them 1.5mm gloves ! heared a story where a guy uses oil on hands pripor to gloves going on. also - latex examination gloves stop evap of water from wind. Motorbikes have heated handlebar grips that work fine in the wet - food for thought. if you can put a battery inside the bar and water tight seal it, there may be some joy in trying it. Quote
Fugazi Posted December 22, 2003 Author Report Posted December 22, 2003 I love the word "toasty", its like when I was talking about wetsuits or dry suits for winter.... I tried a 5mm wetsuit a week ago, and I was NOT toasty, does teh word toasty mean that you havent got frostbite or that you can still feel some parts of your body? I was thinking about if someone sold gloves, that had a mitten section you fold over the top maybe.... Quote
Rake Posted December 22, 2003 Report Posted December 22, 2003 yesterday I used my o'neill pyscho 1.5mm with o'neill palmsless mitts - it did make it better, but the pains still came on strong as soon as I put my arms down after leashing the kite. Not enough. Maybe this is an idea . . . . http://www.highriders.co.uk/product_image.php?imageid=230 http://www.highriders.co.uk/product_image.php?imageid=230 Quote

Filthy Posted December 22, 2003 Report Posted December 22, 2003 Toasty as in your hands have steam coming off them when you take them off! I've got a O'Neill pair that are great. Get what you pay for I suppose. Quote
justal Posted December 26, 2003 Report Posted December 26, 2003 I can't believe your hands can still be cold if you are already wearing gloves... Certainly not as bad as you say they are anyway. I find that as long as the rest of my body is warm, then I don't need to wear gloves at all. It's not actually that cold out there at the moment either... I was out yesterday with my winter suit on and I was too warm.. I had to flush some water into it on occasion just to cool myself down... Standing around on the beach setting up/packing up or just waiting for wind is when you get cold... make sure you you keep yourself warm then (wooly hat etc.) so that you are warm when you get on the water and the physical activity of kitesurfing should keep you (and your hands) warm. Al.... (Feeling nice and toasty after a few hours on this water this afternoon.) Quote
kitelunatic Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 use rubber gloves put some wooly ones on first and then rubber ones over the top and tuck them in to your wetsuit and to top it all of some neoprene gloves Quote
col Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 Gloves you wimps i'm still wearing my bikini....... i'll get me coat Quote
tiny_clanger Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 what colour did your hands go? Were they white then later purple? Do you find that your hands sweat a lot when you are either cold indoors, or too hot. When you are too hot, do your hands really swell up? Quote
Fugazi Posted December 28, 2003 Author Report Posted December 28, 2003 pink, white, blue, purple, blue, white, pink altho I couldnt really tell, was being scared in a 40 mph wind at the time Quote

grant Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 If you have a good wetsuit and have a decent 5mm pair of gloves your hands should keep nice a warm. Im in Aberdeen and have never been cold wearing my winter gear. My wetsuit is 6-5-4 Realm V8 semi dry with built in hood. You probably dont have a great wetsuit so your hands will get cold even with the best gloves due to the rest of your body losing heat rapidly. So invest in a good wetsuit and you too can be so toasty warm in 0 degree water that you have to let some water in to cool down.. Quote
scuddasteve Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 i use 5mm neoprene gloves.. they are a great insulator... just make sure that your hands are warm when you put them on and thay keep youreal warm.. was out at bridlington the other day and was about 2 degrees.... no problems Quote

kuztardd Posted January 7, 2004 Report Posted January 7, 2004 put some latex surgical gloves on first and then your wetsuit gloves. it adds more warmth. nice and toasty.. Quote
