king.module Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 hey ho anyone know of anywhere in scotland that would be suitable for kitesnowboarding?? it's been a real long time since i was in bonny and as such i haven't got a clue to what would be a promising location to pursue - i had a search on the tint-er-net bu-nay couldnae find nae good areas (sorry just practising the lingo) not really interested in the skiing resorts as i reckon accommodation would be a bit expensive (not to mention busy) but a general location that is open (no cliffs, big gullies, forests Etc...) and likely to get more than a couple of inches of snow would be nice... any ideas????? .. .. .. ... anyone?? cheers Quote
aceg3905 Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 problem I can forsee is finding somewhere open enough, that will get the snow you need, without the gullys/drops/trees. Ive fancied the nevis range's a few time's but have not managed to be there when it snowed, and then when it did snow couldnt not get up there for love nor money.......... would love to know somewhere as well, itching to try my snowboard out with my kite............ you seent the post about the gliding club offering there land in North wales, the winter pictures look ideal for snow kiting to me Quote
king.module Posted November 26, 2003 Author Report Posted November 26, 2003 hey ace how goes it? haven't seen the post about the gilder club but didn't follow it as it's a long ol' way from here so if i was heading down there i'd do the extra few miles and hit the beach ) will have a look - gotta find somewhere this winter - me and hoolyman went up to the yorkshire dales with the snowboard last yeah - IT ROCKED!!! - so this year i want to go away somewhere with better snow for a long long weekend.... scotland just seemed like the best place for snow but i'm open to ideas? Well me hopes. Quote
Fugazi Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 not really interested in the skiing resorts as i reckon accommodation would be a bit expensive Mostly about £15 a night... dirt cheap ! I was thinking of going on the lake at aviemore, If the lake freezes over like it sometimes does, would be perfect as the winds would be nice on there !!!! Apparantly theres a snowkiting school opening up over the back of glenshee, I tried emailing them, with no response, so maybe not ... Am looking forward to snow kiting so much too !!! Quote
king.module Posted November 26, 2003 Author Report Posted November 26, 2003 Mostly about £15 a night... dirt cheap ! yeah i saw loads of hostels and so on for that price but i reckon (i could be wrong) that they'd get quite busy as soon as there's any snow + more people around the more difficult it will be to find the room to play ( besides i don't want downhills i just want loads of snow and quite flat -mind you i wouldn't say no if there are a few hills around different terrain and all that....lol Apparantly theres a snowkiting school opening up over the back of glenshee hmmmmm ) gonna be good - already warning my boss that i might need some short notice hols in jan and feb Quote
freez Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 im a luck sod, i got "ben wyvis" oot near me, big grassy slopes and a flat top, which happenes to be white over again, though i dont think the snow is deep enough yet, lol tourists, tell em to get oot o yer way, cos there is a mad scotsman flying thru,. the other handy thing is everyone goes to aviemore and leaves the off piste areas alone, Quote
Fugazi Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 o ok ok !! loch is it Was just an idea, I just want to go to snow !!! maybe top of the lecht, thats pretty flat, or near the car parks, it all depends on the people running the slopes, am hoping some happy scottish farmer will realise the potential and open up some land on a nice moorlike, flat area and let snowkiters on for a minimal fee !!!! Quote
carlos_climber Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 what about the top of glecoe ....anoch more (spelling)...looks like fairly undulating land..fairly high up...worth a crack Quote
king.module Posted November 27, 2003 Author Report Posted November 27, 2003 and less of the swearing thankyou this is a family forum i think you'll find that i'm not sweating:rolleyes: had a look on the internet about some of these places - keep em coming...... hey freez what's ben wyvis like?? looked like it has some quite big drop offs (did you know that it's meaning is 'Terrible hill' - lmao). having a look at the general area and it could be a goer - will put it on my list of possibles - cheers mate ) have an update on requirements - need to be able to reach the flying zone quite easily - don't want to have to walk a long way from the car to set up plus we all know how the weather can change in bonny so i wouldn't want to get caught out far from anywhere Quote
mystyc Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 there is a glidding club/airfield on the road to glenshee from aberdeen. Its high enough to get the snow, but flat big and open so should get reasonable snow, good wind and no hidden traps, often though about it myself last year when too and froing to the ski field. Its about 2/3rds of the way to glenshee. tim Quote
Bob Monkhouse Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 I reckon we could handle that no probs now Hooly ? Quote
king.module Posted November 27, 2003 Author Report Posted November 27, 2003 reckon it's going to be one of those last minute things - anyone know any suitable sites in northern england and wales.com?do you mean aonoach mor? isn't that where hobbits go to die? Quote
freez Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 hi King.module, lol ben wyvis = big green slope (terrible hill), look here for more http://www.munromagic.com/MountainInfo.cfm?Mountain=85 Quote
king.module Posted November 27, 2003 Author Report Posted November 27, 2003 yo freez - that terrible hill of yours looks quite good in the pics but i reckon it's be a bit of a trek taking all the beer up there - need somewhere that's a) close to a road b) close to a pub (and by virtue close to a road) c) close to somewhere to stay (that's gotta be close to a pub which by virtue will be close to a road.) d) away from trees (but close to somewhere to stay (that's gotta be close to a pub which by virtue will be close to a road.) e) all of the above - lol Quote
Bob Monkhouse Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 Necessarily in that order ? Quote

Bob Monkhouse Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 Looks good mate but what about the pub ? Quote
king.module Posted November 27, 2003 Author Report Posted November 27, 2003 LOL - ^^^^^ beat me too it but yeah looks ok - not quite big enough but i guess it's a start... just checked where it is - god it's positivly @ my back door (ok sheffields a ways from preston but the distance i have to travel to get somewhere 1/2 decent anyway......) Quote
king.module Posted November 27, 2003 Author Report Posted November 27, 2003 yeah that i understand that but why does it have to be a hysterical pub?? Quote
Fugazi Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 For those hard of hearing I have used big letters..... http://213.2.26.205/~fugazi/pics/help.jpg Up our way u are never short of a pub, our local village has 14..... probably more pubs than people, but its a good ratio Quote
Bob Monkhouse Posted November 27, 2003 Report Posted November 27, 2003 That should suffice. Do they do Strongbow ? Quote
king.module Posted November 28, 2003 Author Report Posted November 28, 2003 Do they do Strongbow yeah.... but only in the gay bars this could be quite handy over the coming months http://www.snow-forecast.com check out the weather maps... ok you've gotta pay for the full deal but the 3 day forecast is free... have a look i reckon it's quite good ) Quote
king.module Posted November 28, 2003 Author Report Posted November 28, 2003 "Mt Elbrus is looking good for the weekend" yeah but we're back to that age old problem of who's going to carry the bears (arf arf arf) Quote
