iancl1599968601 Posted November 3, 2003 Author Report Posted November 3, 2003 I started the poll, i've tried to describe it in many ways. If anyone really NEEDS diagrams to see what I mean I could probably get some but I don't think it matters too much lol Ian Quote
spooky Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 Wish I could spin Me too!!!! Jon :)s As for deof rotations/spins and loops. To me a loop is were the board come over head (or above the middle part of you can not always be directly over the top due to kite lines) during the trick ie you pivot through the middle of your body as if you had a rod thrpough fom spin to stomach. A spin is where you rotate around an axis that runs down the centre of your body, ie head to toe. Confussion happens whe you are doing an off axis spin, ie you are still spinning via a pivote point from head to toe, but you body is not vertical. Bit like me on Saturday, went for a spin pivoted round as though on a spit from head to toe, but I did it horizontally, hence got half way round and was horizontal to the ground! OCH!! Wihile I have a fe days R&R I will try an dget some diagrams made up to help clarifie the point? Have fun, Jon Quote
Tone Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Arron use to use that setup, but was disqualified (sp?) for using it, so he now uses a leash like all the other riders. i tend to go for forwards loads more than back loops, when i try to backloop i either get it right or i land on my arse and back really hard, something i was working on towards then end of last summer was doing backloop transitions when i would back loop and land going the opposite way to the kite... only got a few of these nailed, buit want to work on them again when the weather is a little warmer. for some odd reason i can jump really well when going with my right shoulder facing forward, but i cant front loop that way, but going with my left shoulder facing forward i can loop but not jump very high.... starting to get to me a little bit! lol! Muppetdude, the only time i have landed anything more than a double was when going for a single and getting FAAAR too much hight! to say the landing was hard would be an understatement, but that sometimes happens with the 15.5. muppetdude1599968590 Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 tone it comes with time and thought kiteboarding progressions dvd by fatsand production -the bible of rotations stay safe Quote
spooky Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 All, Is it me or are we getting confuse between a spin and a loop? Jon Quote
skytigerer Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 tone, i think everyone has that, i know i do, its just practise practise practise. Quote
jango Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 I seem to find it more natural to go frontside, just feels more weird in the wind-up for backside... Same goes for snowboarding, wakeboarding and skateboarding (not that I do the latter anymore... to old (and fat). Having said that, for the other two, when in the switch, I prefer backside (wind-up is the same way...) Quote
rasga Posted July 24, 2004 Report Posted July 24, 2004 Just to add something to the discussion, a newly updated KiteATB adds their opinion to the discussion: http://www.kiteatb.co.uk/_tricks/rotations.html notice the key difference in word! Just to say that the bit on rotations has moved into the general trick area : http://www.kiteatb.co.uk/_tricks/#rotations (just noticed getting some errors on site as people going to old page. . .oopsy) Quote
Tempest_Riders Posted July 24, 2004 Report Posted July 24, 2004 I naturally started frontside spins first but was only hitting 270s, then one day I decieded to try backside and I had to stop myself from spinning more than 360. To me backside doesn't feel as natural, but spins easier. It feels like frontside your spinning up hill and backside it downhill. Maybe this is from the redirect going up and over. goes better with the backside. If that makes any sense. Quote
Ross1599968583 Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 WEHEY!!!! Landed my first 360 at the weekend, it wasn't very neat but I landed it!!! I think it was a back rotation....travelling from Right to Left, then as I went uplooked over my right foot, ahhhh back foot - so back rotation....it's becoming clearer... ...landed with my right foot now facing forwards to continue back to where I had come from.....very please.....just need to practise now! So in answer to the original back ratations .... Quote
Lem Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 Must be a weekend for it.. finally got my rotations dialled. Frontside (I'm with DrunkMonkey on this one) feels more natural and it's a great 'feel-good' move as you float serenly round. Just remember to re-direct that kite mid spin. I find I have a tendancy to pull the bar in on rot's (which makes for a nice floaty turn) and have to make a point of pushing the bar away halfway round so that the kite ends up going back the right way... or I could leave it and do a transition??? (thoughts for next weekend!) Quote
Bellstar Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 Wouldn't one of those handle pass rings buckle real easy if you fell over on them Quote
.TheBeest. Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 I have only got as far as a 90 spin, not recomended, but the winds are always c*** around here and I havnt had a chance to get my self off to the coast Quote
Adrena1in Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 Back to the original question, whether it's called a frontside or backside, I don't know, (don't really care), but even though I can't do spins yet, I find rotating backside (as per the description at the start) easier. The kite tends to pull my forward wheel downwind as I take off, no matter how much I try to steer it upwind. (Frontside spins look better.) Quote
kiting mad Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 i like to 360 backside front side doesnt feel right for me at the mo Quote
marman Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 just to prove its not all about kite size: learnt to backside 360 on my 3m buster, then the 4m buster then the 12mphantom then the 7m frenzy then tried a front side on the phantom and got it, back is far more easy and natural for me though, wonder if you can guess which had the mos float and aritime though *cough phantom cough* Quote
Gizmo Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 Backside meaning you rotate back over your lead shoulder. Frontside meaning you rotate towards your trailing shoulder. Find the backside ones easier as you dont have to go as far round. And also when going really fast you can do em inches off the ground and travel yards over the ground spining. Woo hooooo. Looks cool and feels cool. Need to practise the front 360 as started out trying them but kept coming in to land on my lead hip (ouch) then tried back and it clicked straight away. Guess one way come more natural to others. Quote
g0nz01599968659 Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 I go clockwise... so i front side when riding regular and back side when going switch, its the same with loops as spins. It just seems natural that way, though it does mean I havent been able to back loop with the dirtsurfer:eek: Quote
