lardyb Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 Any hints on better ways of getting rid of exessive speed before a tack. decided to bail straight into the sea last weekend after hitting 43mph and ran out of room before turning (aquaplaned for a good few yards before sinking though and didn't drop my kite into the sea!!!). Tried all the usual, turning upwind flying slightly behind to pull back but was still travelling way to quick to safely turn. all comments greatly appreciated????? ;) Ta Ben Ps. just moved back to south wales (porthcawl, above happend at coney) any fly in's happening soon??? whizzer Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 Ben, Fly in first Sunday of each month at Ogmore by Sea beach. Beach Ok for buggying if the tides out otherwise it can be a little cramped. Local kite dealer Scruffs is always in attendance and the meet is usually well attended even if the weather is marginal On the subject of your post about stopping .. I havent got a f*ckin clue ... I can just about manage a 100 yd straight line before the kite decides to fly behind me and nose dive... mind you it makes a great brake parachute I buggy at Coney and Rest Bay .. maybe catch you down there sometime .... cheers Quote
Muttley Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 rather than positioning the kite high & behind, keep it powered up but steer the buggy upwind to slow down. once the speed gets down to 25mph or so u can turn/stall the kite, throw the steering over & power slide to a halt. Quote
Cha Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 43 MPH. Well that deserves comment. Well done for getting there. Id have to agree turning slightly up into the wind tends to reduce the forward motion. (pinching it is called in sailing) Quote
Symo Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 Good speed fella. Brake the kite enough to keep it in the air and steer upwind. Failing that move the kite behind you ahead of the turn. Quote
