twojaythomo Posted November 23, 2018 Report Posted November 23, 2018 Anyone been out at night, it's a full moon tonight and the wind is around 10 knots. I was going to go down the beach for a look and see if it's light enough for a safe run. Quote
eric67m Posted November 23, 2018 Report Posted November 23, 2018 I have not but have heard stories of people riding on dry lake beds at night. They put 4 tiny lights to mark the corners of their foil kites and possibly some more to be able to tell the leading edge from the back. Quote
plummet Posted November 23, 2018 Report Posted November 23, 2018 Yep. Do it. Full moon kiting is surreal. I've done it with and without lights and in sand dunes also. You dont need lights on the kite. You can see it well enough on a full moon. Quote
nigel Posted November 24, 2018 Report Posted November 24, 2018 Done it as well. Except we had no moon. The only way to tell where the kite was, was by seeing what stars the kite blocked out. Tie a light stick (chemical lights) to the bridle, or chuck into the foil, as long as you don't turn the kite upside down it wont fall out. Chuck some push bike lights (red and white flashers) on the buggy, just so others can see you coming. Have fun!! Quote
SoutherlyBuster Posted November 24, 2018 Report Posted November 24, 2018 My son and and and I did some night flights on the clay pan at Kingston, great fun, all the wind gusts had dissapeared, very steady wind and the moon was out. Just had to remember where the nasty obstacles are. Quote
RedSky Posted November 25, 2018 Report Posted November 25, 2018 Some years ago we rode under a super moon! I have a video somewhere. It would be handy to use lights + a red light on the rear of your buggies as its hard to gauge on a moonless night whether someone is hurtling towards you or not. SoutherlyBuster 1 Quote
