Robocourier Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 Anyone hoping for a pb over the next few days?? Want to get out Sunday if the forecast holds. Stopsley beckons. Quote
mick Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 You planning on going to Stopsley this weekend mate? Quote
Robocourier Posted January 29, 2015 Author Report Posted January 29, 2015 Sunday. By midday. Currently forecast 29mph, gusting 43mph. NW, which means it's the length of the field (about 1/2 mile). There'll be a couple of dead spots but when the boost hits......................... Last time I was there the goalposts were down giving loads of space. Landboarders won't be there cos they're pussies. Cold though. Very cold. :/ Time to fire up the 4m Access, I think. Man, I hope the forecast holds up. Quote
mick Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 I'll order some bearings tonite and if I can get em in time, I might make the trip. Quote
Robocourier Posted January 29, 2015 Author Report Posted January 29, 2015 That'll be cool. Likely to be the only one's there and I'll need a witness for my pb runs. Lol. What size bearings do you need? I also have a spare std Flexi if you want to be reckless. Quote
mick Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 Ive found 4 15mms but I reckon the front wheel is a 12mm. I'll measure it first thing. Mad Andy is crazy quick for delivery. I might pull the headstock apart at the same time. You planning any Maybo trips if we get an easterly come thro. What's your work rota these days ? Quote
Robocourier Posted January 30, 2015 Author Report Posted January 30, 2015 Really flexible for time off cos I'm the blue (and green) eyed boy atm. So Easterley=Mabo. :-) Quote
mick Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 Don't think I'm gonna get to Stopsley tomorrow Gary but looking out for these easterlies. Quote
Robocourier Posted January 31, 2015 Author Report Posted January 31, 2015 No worries, mate. Not sure what the forecast is gonna turn out to be anyway. Todays is miles off! Quote
mick Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 Whats the best wind direction there Gary ? Quote
Robocourier Posted January 31, 2015 Author Report Posted January 31, 2015 (edited) For distance: NW. There are a few dead spots to kill top speed but it's the longest run on the field. I've done 85 miles in a day. For speed: SW. Cutting across the short side of the field E to W, you can pick up some good speed (uphill!) and use the turn North to max out slightly downwind. Good technique for flying overpowered but can be difficult to stop at the end of the field! With no goalposts it is a lot safer. Hit 44mph a few weeks back. For a general day out: Anywhere N to S via W. Edited January 31, 2015 by Robocourier Quote
mick Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 Ive had some terrific days there and always thought northerlys were the best tbh. When I say N I do include NW in that. Having said that, Ive had some great runs down the other way in a westerly. This was in the days of no restrictions apart from avoiding the cricket pitches and pikies on motor bikes. Quote
broraboyan Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 I've maxed out on mine at 46mph,thats on a lei 12m was good fun though. Haven't been out this year with the buggy, need that easterly. Quote
plummet Posted February 7, 2015 Report Posted February 7, 2015 I have to wait till I get to another beach to go super fast. my local is not long enough and has too much rocks and crap on there. Plus the hard fast bit is within 5 -10 meters of the drift wood. There's literally no room for error. Running out down wind to reduce speed is not an option. Quote
robinsonpr Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 What's the crack at Stopsley these days? Last time I was there a few months back the car park was blocked off. Are there signs up saying no traction kiting? Quote
mick Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 Paul, pm Robocourier. He's a local flyer there. Also the OP of the thread. Quote
