broraboyan Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 I think a two kite quiver is possible if you have different line lengths as well as the right kites to start with , but also I think it would be restrictive as to what you want to do while your out on the water aswell.what do you think? Quote
BillyGoat Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 very restrictive if you want to learn unhooked tricks... Definitely possible if you have a few boards. I could get away with a 10.5m and 9m RRD obsession and a 134cm twin tip with a skim board (82kg).. Quote
andrew pattullo Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 depends on your weight but very possible 90kg rider 11m or 12m with very good depower and a fast kite , and a 7m but like me odd days could with a 9m ! my wish list 11m 9m 7m ozone edge , if I cant fly my 11m , no point going beach simple ! broraboyan Posted October 5, 2013 Author Report Posted October 5, 2013 I have a naish cult 15m and I'm maxed out at 20mph on 25m lines if I change to 15m lines I'm sure I could go up 30mph , if this was the case after 30mph gusting would switch to my 6m ion and back to the 25m lines, maybe even increase to 30m lines and that's me up to 45/50 with the lines getting smaller as the winds get stronger.must try it. Maro Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 It's totally possible, I uses to have 12.5m Ion2 and 7m Ion3. That covered me from 15mph winds to 30-40 with a small grey area around 25 where I could use either. Now I have 11m 9m and 7m bandit 5. The 9m is pretty much a 1 kite quiver with 11m on rare sub 15mph days and the 7m when its howling. Quote
igloo123 Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 With a 2 kite quiver you'l never be be able to kite in ALL conditions, but you will be able to kite in most. As a 90 KG guy I find 12 and 9 works well for me. Quote

skimmer Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 I have a 10 and a 7 covers me from 13 to 40knts so yer its possible Quote
Andy-j Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 I know someone that has a 1 kite quiver (10m p series) and have personally seen him out when i'm at the bottom end of my 11m and also at the top end of my 7m. But in my opinion 3 is best. Quote
kiteingcolin Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 The more kites you have the less you you will frett about the conditions. A one kite quiver either a 11 or a 12 will suit most people for most conditions, 2 is better 4 kites is ideal 5 is showing off Quote
skidmarks Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 ive been using a 12 and 8 for yrs going out from 18 to mid 40s granted the mid 40s isa handfull ive just got a 6 which ive still to use Quote
Johnny RRD Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 Having to many kites is a pain, you just spend ages humming and arrring about what size you should be on, pumping up and changing all the time, naaa 2 kite quiver is the best thing ive done, 8&11, one twinny and a surfboard, pump up and make it work, Quote
plummet Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 It depends A) how addicted you are B) how much you like riding in a kites sweet spot. If your not very addicted and can handle missing sessions because you don't have the right kite. Sure go for. If you like mowing the lawn or holding on for grin death then sure go for. Me I run a 15,13,10,8,6. And i'm god damned pleased at the decadence. I'm first out in marginal winds (which I have a blast in). Perfectly powered from 13-40 knots plus can hold 40-50 knot gusts. At any time over that wind range I can select a kite that's perfect for the conditions. Quote
zerogee Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 I used a 2 kite Peter Lynn ARC quiver since 2001. Used them for water, snow and land. It kept me happy for 90% of the days. Missed some light winds (less than 12 knots) and high winds (32-35+ knots, depending on the model and setup). With the older models I had a bar setup for each size to optimize their range and extentions if needed could be used too. I also had a smaller board for the high winds. I got tired of the tuning and the swapping so with later models I just used one bar with one line length and one board (surfboard) and got the same results. Last fall I got my first LEI 3 kite quiver (Core Riot XR2's 6,9,13.5) with one bar (I got extensions but phased them out). The 9m has kept me happy for 90% of the days. This with a one board (5'8 North WAM) quiver too. I think your quiver depends on your condtions and skill level. Quote
zerogee Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 It also helps that the kites have a huge wind range with a very large sweet spot. Quote
andrew pattullo Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 most new kites after 2010 have huge wind range 11m 12m kites now from 14mph 27mph Quote
lives2fly Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 Yeah its possible but limiting. It depends if you just want to get out or if you want to work on things for part of your session. You will spend a lot of time overpowered or underpowered if you have 2 sizes which is not ideal for pushing yourself. I think 12/9/7 or similar is the way to go for most people of average weight as it covers that 15-35knot "good conditions" range. I have a light-wind kite and board too but consider them a luxury rather than a necessity. Quote
mcf2 Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 9m 12m 16m is what i have had but generally stuck to a 12m and 16m ( also at one point i had a 20m and could was out in about 14mph was verry nice ) but i grown up a bit more and think a 12m and a 9 is better as height winds faster kite Quote
skytiger Posted October 11, 2013 Report Posted October 11, 2013 A two kite quiver is possible but you'll just end up buying another one anyway. With the advance in technology over the last few years light wind kiteboarding has become much better. This is what I recommend, which is a three kite quiver and two boards; - For a 70kg rider kites 1. light wind kite; - Blade fat lady 17, Ozone edge 17, Ozone zephyr 17, Slingshot turbine 17, Flysurfer speed3 15, or North Dyno 15 or 17? 2. A smaller kite 11m 3. A smaller kite 8m Boards 1. Robust surfboard with straps 6'5 2. Bidirectional - not too thin Quote

Also tested and liked very much an OR Flite so another contender in the big kite section. 3 kites and a few boards will cover lots of kiting conditions...and maximize fun time on the water. Quote

The Epic Infiinity could be added to the light wind list but I haven't tried one. I think an 11m or a 12m for the medium wind kite. For racing the kites which are currently used are these; - North Dyno, Ozone edge and an RRD of some sort, the 17m of these kites all have a similar bottom end which is impressive, and probably similar to the speed 3 15m. I don't know what low wind kite cabrinha have but they probably have one. The race boards are completely different to a normal board as you don't really stand on them, you balance on the edge. They go upwind really well and the big volume would probably be very handy if the kite doesn't relaunch out to sea a bit. I think a decent size surfboard has this pro, a 7' board would be a bit of a pain in medium surf but would be MUCH more useful than a 5'8 when out past the surf. Surfboards also point at 15-20 degrees to the wind for me. A 6'4 fish x 20.5 inches wide would surf well and be paddle-able, but it would be tricky to paddle more than 400m with a kite. Quote
plummet Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 yeah 17-11-8 would be a sweet quiver. But your still sitting in the sidelines when its 6m weather. 6m weather is SOOOOO much fun! So add another kite to that quiver to make it 17-11-8-6! or 17-11-7? or 15-13-10-8-6! Oh yeah! Or 17-12-9-6?! or 17-9-6! or 13-7! or 10! or or or or or or or or or or oro rorororororororo the list is endless Quote
skytiger Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 -6! There haven't been any hurricanes here for a while but I do feel like I'm missing out when it's really blowing. Remember this is the UK so I'll address the matter when it becomes a problem. Quote
Blast Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 I can almost get away with one kite...my 9m BUT I have a few diffrerent boards to choose from and am mainly on directionals these days. We have the full quiver of Epic kites to choose from - 5m to the Epic Infinity There are obviously days when I will use the Infinity and yesterday I had great fun on the 13m Renegade but prob 90% of the time I use the 9m so for me personally I'd choose a 6.5m & 9m plus a quiver of boards ;-) Quote
