Has anybody ever driven through the barriers at a multi-story car park?

Like if the stupid car park closed at 7 and you needed to get home, so drove out behind another car and when the barrier came down it hit your car and then broke into several pieces and you kept driving?

Did the car park and/or police contact you or do anything about it?

If the car park was closed how could you drive out behind another car?

Sounds more like you tried to drive out behind another car without paying!

Depends on the exact car park but many (most) of them are gonna have closed circuit cameras that will have recorded your number plate. The owners of the car park will be able to get the details of the registered keeper from the DVLA and then may contact you directly, or may pass the details on to the Police who might get in touch about a charge of criminal damage.

I have driven out behind another car before, depending on the gate you have loads of time to get out. If you get the person in front to pull away nice and quickly too. This was just at a uni gym car park though where it is free if you go to the gym but not if you just want to park, so yea not high stakes.

You might want to report it to the police yourself so you don't get done for leaving the scene of an accident - don't know if that would apply on privately owned land, but it might, and that's a more serious charge than an accident which the insurance companies can deal with.

I'm not saying this happened to me. It might or might not have, I'm not making any internet confessions.

I think the person it happened to was fully intending to pay, but found all the gates locked and signs the car park was closed. Then a car pulled out, who said he was a resident and then offered to the locked in car drove out behind him. In this case, I would have fully intended to pay and not intended to do any damage, just wanted to get my car out.

If it were me, I'd be hoping that the car park at best would only have my license number, and the only way to get my address is through the police. I'd also hope the police aren't going to do any work for such a small thing. Every time I've ever contacted the police about criminal damage, even if I gave them the name and contact details of the person who did it, they were worthless. Just said it was a civil matter and my problem. I hope the car park gets the same treatment.

Bloody ell. Half a story Rory. Couldave mightave. Weren't me Guv. You should get done just for wasting Forum time. :) If it were me I'd have done it in a Capri, Bodie and Doyle style and chased the lead car. If you're going to do it, might as well do a proper job.

All right, guilty as charged for making such a convoluted post. I'm really interested to hear if anybody's actually had to pay up for something like this.

@Geoff, I know what you are saying. The crucial thing seems to be "Is it a road?" If it's not a road, then nobody left the scene of an accident .
