Dragnfly Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 I broke a couple of ribs in May and have been wearing a seat harness (nitrous) to take the pressure off them. Unfortunately now when I hit the water hard during out of control superman style antics, it still hurts a fair bit. I also managed to get even the seat harness pulled up so hard last week that I thought i'd done another job on my ribs, lower down though on my side. Fortunately it appears I just bruised them as it's almost stopped hurting now. Are there any harnesses that are likely to be more comfortable and offer more protection to my poor battered flimsy ribcage? I've been kiting like a bloody granded all season as a result of trying to avoid hurting them any more (although I reckon that actually makes me crash more, by not going 100% at it, but that's another story). Cheers. Quote
andrewjohn Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 Any of the Mystic seat harness's will do the job as they have an extra strap that holds the spreader bar down. They also have a very good bar pad as well. I've used a Warrior waist/seat for years. It's a hybrid of waist and seat, so sits a bit higher but has the nappy as well. Not sure if they still do anything similar, but I have never had the spreader bar in my ribs. Quote
heres jonny Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 Get some proper upper body and back muscles (lats), these stop waist harnesses going up around your tits Otherwise, if you're on land wear a climbing harness. Or a seat harness or suchlike on the water Quote

skiffman Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 I hurt my ribs a while back, found that my old harness that had less support and was more flexible was the best for me. Seemed to mould around my body rather than having any bits that dug in. Also just do unhooked tricks, anything hooked in hurt like hell but I was absolutely fine when I unhooked. Even in bindings taking some big crashes, it never loaded my ribs like the harness pulling into them, i.e jumping Quote
Dragnfly Posted October 7, 2011 Author Report Posted October 7, 2011 Yeah, I was thinking off that Skiff. I need the practice too! Quote
Andy-j Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Get back in a waisty and suck it up! Quote
vinny Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 only thing i can suggest is stick with the nitrous and get either a buoyancy aid about 25 quid that will cover/cushion ya ribs or impact/buoyancy vest. Quote
PurpleMonkey Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 i can't remember where i saw it or what manufacturer it was, but i did see on t'internet, a harness with a full back protector built in, it looks like an impact vest and harness combo, might be something to consider. Quote
Dragnfly Posted October 8, 2011 Author Report Posted October 8, 2011 Has anyone tried one of these rascals? http://www.powerkiteshop.com/dakine_kiteboarding_impact_shield_harness.htm Quote

mick Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 Have you considered those gay 'harness pants' Like shorts with a hook built in. Quote
Dragnfly Posted October 9, 2011 Author Report Posted October 9, 2011 Mick, yep, been wearing one for a few months - but this week still managed to mash up the lowest part of my ribs just above my left hip, and then ripped the leg strap off by accident while tightening it, so they are dead. They also don't offer any rib padding at all. Mark Cath - pm'd you back. Cheers. Quote
