I don't think any one is saying you can't make anything of your life if you start out from a poor area.....Just that the odds against doing it are rather high.

All the best

Andy S.

Thing is andy its a sad fact of life that these people have no intrest in trying to improve the life they live they want shit that they aint prepared to strive for or work for .. education is free easy and open to everyone , i come from a poor background ,i might not be the most educated bloke on the planet but in my day poor people had pride and knew that life did not get handed to them on a plate and another thing is my folks taught me right from wrong they also taught me respect for others ,

That's really interesting Steve, thanks for posting it. From reading that I guess they do have a lot of sense & will let the hype die for a while, get the shops stocked up & police numbers lower, then just keep repeating it! Scary!

I think it'll start a whole other issue though. I went to sainsburys yesterday, there were @ 10 teenage boys outside, course there were, they'd bought some butties & pop, it is summer hols! I felt anxious! How ridiculous is that? I had a word with myself in the car!! I got home & retold the story & someone said oh yer there were loads of kids apparently hanging around morrissons last night too. There's ALWAYS kids outside morrisons! It's dry & sheltered from the wind! Its just now were all anxious even if we don't realise it! That will cause problems! Most kids are really good,the odds of bad to good kids are just the same as when we were kids, it's just if you didn't hang round with the naughty kids you didn't really notice them. Our parents knew exactly who the bad kids were though & thought there were many more than in their day - it's just they were looking out for you & anxious about everything. However good kids taunted can get wound up & revolt. I/we all need to somehow chill out!

Give them the vote, otherwise they can't send a message.

Voting only lets you chose who gets to f*ck up the country and how they do it, it's not the party in power that needs to change, it's the whole system of government, and the parties care too much about themselves to do that in any significant way.

Thoughts from ground zero: this is written by a friend of mine who lives in Clapham. Luckily she has managed to avoid any harm herself. She was responding to American friends on Facebook asking what the fuck was going on.

Think she is right on almost every count there steve.

It's been quiet for couple of nights now, and in hindsight maybe Dave Cameron and his Tory buddies should really be quite proud of themselves. What these 'Riots' could mean is the ultimate triumph of Capitalism over Socialism, ie the propaganda we are constantly bombarded with to buy, buy, buy, consume , consume, consume, has been so successful that even people with no money want to take part, so much so that they are even prepared to break the law and risk prison sentences to join in....

Just my quick two pence on this one! I grew up on a council estate, pretty shit one at that! Due to circumstances I can't be arsed to go into, by the age of 15 I was living on my own, and fending for myself! You know what I did? Anything that earnt me money!! Used to spend me weekends down the local car park picking up loose trollies for the 10 pence deposit, had 2 paper rounds, and a part time job as a petrol pump attendant,,,, would never of dreamt of joining in this sort of shit!! The problem lies with the welfare generation, the fact that they are encouraged to claim for everything from alcoholism to ADHD. (does that really exist). And that they are owed a life by the country. If you sit around all day doin fuck all. You are gonna feel like shit coz your going nowhere,,,, people should be made to work for any handout they get from the state, then they will feel a point and purpose to life,,,,,,getting up every morning with something to do all day gives you some sort of feeling of worth!!!

Wow, it's all very facist on here.....Jackboots all round is it?

Listen to yourselves! :rolleyes:

You are confusing facsism with a huge bunch of very angry people who are frustrated about the yobs who are damaging peoples' homes businesses and making England to be an awful place to be.

There are many people who started with nothing , made a success out of life. They didn't go on the rampage looting and destroying. They are also damaging people who have made a succes of their lives as well as tarnishing England's image abroad. If little dim witted brats damaged my town (I started with nothing) I'd feel like doing something brutal to them as well.

Just to get my pennyworth of your idea of fascism on the vindictive thieving , vandalising morons, I'd send them to Afghanistan as cannon fodder. It would serve a useful purpose in wasting Taliban bombs & bullets. Of course that is just a fantasy & won't happen. Decent UK. military personnel are suffering that fate.

one of the rioters arrested the other night was an army recruit, so it may happen. another a teaching assistant, infact i think out of the ten arrested, only one was a minor.

to bath1, all those jobs are now taken by people who should be retired, but because they can't afford to have the heating on and the government have robbed the pension fund, they have to work. maybe when they locked up all the riotors we will be left with a nation full of dairy cows, ready for the milking.

no the insurance companies will cop for that which means another rise in insurance for all that have some kind of insurance

All i will say is that if the violence spread up to Scotland... I will personally find the person that started it and kick their ass from here to kingdom come. especially that Glaswegian twat! serves him right getting arrested for it.

I like the logic of the looters... "We are getting our taxes back..." yeah and what do you think your taxes for the next year will be spent on... oh that is right replacing all the stolen stock and paying for repairs to damaged shops... buying new buses/cars.

i hear alot of people blaming the parents for the actions of the said accused i bet none of them have kids and bringing them up on minimum wage and as for parenting we are not aloud to parent anymore there is to many organisations protecting the youngsters from a good old clip around the ear i mean the local bobby used to smack us and drag us home then watch us get another from our fathers it did me no harm i respect my parents maybe not when i was getting a smack but it learned me to do as i was told nowadays they just threaten you with childline or im going to divorce you blah blah blah same goes for the schools too our teachers used to smack us i called showing whos boss from a early age no wonder the kids arnt learning anything so i guess they have themselves to blame for this culture not the parents

There was no rhyme nor reason; just pure opportunism. You only have to look at the demographic of those arrested to see that it is massively varied and not just kids with no fathers and a single parent on benefits. From memory, some of those arrested (and charged?) include:

* a teaching assistant

* students and undergraduates

* an olympics ambassador

* a millionaire's daughter

Now, I have seen some genuinely passionate individuals trying hard to put across their voice and stating that where they were once a silent part of society, they now have a voice and seem to have people (the media) listening.

This may be true for some of the 'rioters', but it was mostly mindless - driven by greed and selfishness. One guy was saying that there were no opportunities and no hope for the future for many youths - which may, or may not be true. But mindless violence and theft of goods is surely not the way to a future of hope, is it? Neither is people being murdered.

People can try and put a logical explanation down for the rioting, in order for people to feel like "there's some logic" but I think we all know that it's removed from the truth of the matter. Parents have a big part to play in setting examples for their children, but then we all have to set good examples in society, even if we don't have children.

Then again, it's easy to be objective from a perceived ivory tower, isn't it!

What a lot of you don't understand is the reason behind the riots. They started because of how minorities (asians, blacks etc) in London felt about the police. They believe that they get targeted by the police and get picked on, getting stopped and searched for no reason etc.

The riots started with these people fighting the police. In the process of this shops and businesses to the brunt of the damage, and then that's where the white kids (chavs) and the rest of the scummy minorities started the looting, as opportunists.

Hello, apparently it seems that because of these riots you have a problem with all young people, including me. Whilst I will take this on the chin as you just being arrogant, other people may not. Namely the Chavs and "Gangsters" who have caused these riots, precisely because of the way they are being treated, by un-educated idiots like you, and also by the police, who they feel are targeting them as racial profiling.

mozza is bang on and it is scary how many people are just going on about the looting with no thought of the reasons behind it ,its because as a society we dont care about politics anymore and those who dont seek the truth are easily mislead ,read some parenti or chomski ,learn how this puppet goverment works ,learn how the partys owe favours before their elected ,learn how cuts to our services are easily avoided through a return to the 70s tax levels ,learn how big corporations pay next to no tax ,learn how outsourcing has sripped the economy of spending power but made the rich richer ,learn why we pay 200 million in intrest a day due to the inherent nature of intrest on all money produced ,learn why we spent 30 billion securing resources in afganistan for elites ,learn why we have been sold to eu and therefore have 80 percent of regulation in this country handed to us with no say ,learn why media tells what they are allowed to tell which is always there to install a divided mentalenty in society ,learn how banking sectors can at any moment take your homes through intrest rates and there fore have the country under their thumb and can get away with LOOTING from us

if you dont answer these questions or at least ask them you are nearly as mindless as the looters ,NOTHING happens for no reason ,i dont justify the riots but believe something similar will need to take place some time in the future to secure a democratic state for the future cus right now this is a plutocracy at its finest and we are putting all our collective energy into slandering the result not the reason and suitable action to avoid the result ,how can no one mention the killing by police at g20 summit when in essence that is the same as the reason this series of riots occurred and needs to be addressed the police are out of control and we are heading towards an american style police state ,that is a lot scarier than chavs looting surely

Hi there young boy.

Ive got a massive problem with rioting, burglarising, terrorising scum who feel they are owed something in life and can run about stealing petty things like tvs and kappa suits. Does that include you?

The rest of your insults are water off a ducks back. Example - since I graduated in Civil Engineering at Leeds university my apparent "un-educated idiot" self is doing really really well. :)

Oh and I got my self there at the ripe "old" age of 24, it took me that long to save to go full time by doing all the shit jobs like working in a supermaket stack veg, and pressing buttons in a filling station because my single parent mum had fuck all money to rub together to pay for it so dont go pulling the privelidged card cos you know fuck all about me and where im from.

@L60N surely thee state of our country and the political structure that is in place and there fore the discussion of it is is more pressing than where you went to uni and how well you are doing ,

"Cameron standard tactic of 'criminality, pure and simple.' What do we pay this joker for? He might as well be an old bloke down the local having a good right-wing moan. Maybe if you stopped the constant 'Stop and Search', stopped closing youth centres, stopped taking funds from deprived councils, gave back the money the banks nicked, and treated poor kids who have no voice as equals, you might get some answers. But no, stick to the media view, must keep up appearances!" funny how you are so educated and still quite obviously part of "maufactured consent" whens the last time you seeked your own information that didnt come out of main stream media i wonder ,ohh its sooo black and white isnt it ,if you went uni now it would cost you alot more as this plutocracys grip gets firmer,the discussion of i did this im educated in this blah blah blah has no place in a debate around serious issues

Have any of you read this?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/aug/11/uk-riots-courtrooms-country

From the article:

"At Camberwell Green magistrates, Nicholas Robinson, 23, an electrical engineering student with no previous convictions, was jailed for the maximum permitted six months after pleading guilty to stealing bottles of water worth £3.50 from Lidl in Brixton. He had been walking back from his girlfriend's house in the early hours of Monday morning when he saw the store being looted, his lawyer said, and had taken the opportunity to go in and help himself to a case of water because he was thirsty. He was caught up in the moment, and was ashamed of his actions, his defence said."

I'm all for prosecuting rioters, but you've got to wonder about a senetence like that. 6 months in jail is pretty significant, could even ruin a whole life.
