cheezylee Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 Hi all.. I have been landboarding for about 6 months using a flexi sabre mk1.. just wondered if any of u guys/n girls have had owned one or at least had a go on one. I know they have had there issues but it has been good to me, apart from a bit slow sometimes and a bit of wing folding apart from that i have progressed from a newbe to powerslides, and occasional jumps ( couple of inches!! (-: ) Can anyone tell me just how different the frenzie and Mantas will be compared to the sabre as i have not had a chance to test one out. Been thinkin of replacing me sabre with a manta 2 / frenzy .. any suggestions would be welcome:D cheers Quote
Blade1990 Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 Hey, Although I haven't owned/flown a sabre 1 I do have a 12m sabre 2 and have recently bought an ex demo 10m Manta M3, on first impressions there are advantages and disadvantages to both but I must say the Manta is certainly an awesome kite with the main and most noticeable difference for me being the huge reduction in setting up and packing away time (mainly due to only three lines, splitting to four at kite with the Manta whereas on the sabre there was five lines, typically getting into a terrible mess that took a while to sort out ). Flight/feel wise, after flying both in gusty and smooth conditions I personally found the Manta to be a far superior kite all round with big, big, floaty lift capabilities and smooth, fast handling with good de-power range - however in gusts it can be pretty moody and will definetly catch you out until you get used to it . The sabre does seem to handle gusts fairly well but can collapse very quickly in a lull and can be extremely lethal when it fills again, however, if I'm picky the depower trim on the sabre was much easier to adjust mid-flight, and finally, the safety system on the sabre is also sposed to be the best in the business but personally I've never used it so I couldn't tell you . Overall, I prefer the Manta due to quick turning and potentially huge lift but it depends what you want to use the kite for . Hope this helps, Kieran Quote
Dubs Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 I stopped reading mr blade's reply when he said we was comparing an old sabre to a new manta. they're totally different kites, let alone different levels of development.. Unfortunately- the sabre was a bit of a flop for flexi, dont get me wrong they're good (I had one) but they just weren't as good as frenzies which where their main competitor. A 2004 frenzy is far better than the sabre- faster turning, more stable, more lifty and a generally nicer kite... although the differences are minor. If you go with a foil- get an 08 frenzy... banging kites! The manta's a bit more tame ie needs a bit more work to get the lift etc but once mastered are spickin' awesome too. Just don't bother with a sabre2- your money can go into better things like frenzies.... Quote
cheezylee Posted November 30, 2010 Author Report Posted November 30, 2010 Cheers guys.. Thanks for the advice on the kites..., i guess at the time i got used to the sabre.. for it was my first depower kite! and its still going well.. Now xmas is fast approaching i might be able to persuade the wife that i need a frenzie or a manta if i can find a decent one (-: hoping to have another go on me mates venom arc this weekend, see how i get on with it... Too many kites to choose!!! Quote
plummet Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 buy as new as you can. 2005 kites don't compare to the latest versions. frenzy = raw power, park and ride style. easy to jump, pops more glides less manta = higher aspect needs speed for power, harder to jump (as you need to work the kite) but glide is longer and its also better upwind. slide Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 (edited) frenzy will be similar to sabre -ie low end grunt manta will not have that and will need to be flown properly sabre1 was my first depower , and it is a great first depower kite , if i remember rightly , wing tip collapse on the 1 was mostly due to 2 things , gusts or the metal (not a good idea at the beach) pullies not running freely - check that they are free running Edited November 30, 2010 by slide Quote
cheezylee Posted November 30, 2010 Author Report Posted November 30, 2010 Frenzy is the way to go for me i'll have a look for one soon as i have the funds... I did have the kite out lastweekend at the Ho! , and had to free the pullies, bit tricky when the sand gets in them, i'll have to watch out for that.. cheers I guess its the same on the most kites when used on the beach..
