Hi all

I'm going to head up to Perth this Friday and was going to drop by the big salt lake out at Safety Bay.

The forcast is for southerly winds. Will this spot work with southerly winds?

It works for all winds. There is enough space that you can go in any direction. Just make sure you walk down to the far end where the green container is, that is where the space is.

Hi Bob2,

Did you try out Lake Walyungup?

I'm heading down in the morning. :goplay:

Great morning in the buggy, low winds that increased as the morning went on. Started off on the 10m Manta and then put up the 6m access for about half an hour. Reckon I could of got some decent speed on the Access but was tired after 3 hours in the buggy! :cray:

Good to see Bones and Jo down there :clapping: , planning on a session on Friday morning and hopefully again on Sunday :good: Shouldn't be any toy planes on there on Friday :hunter:

Hi Bones

My trip for work was cancelled so I missed out in my attempt to combine work and play.

I was looking over the aerial maps and the site looks massive compared to my local haunts.

When I get another opportunity to head north, I'll look in on this thread and see if there is a chance to catch up with you guys for a buggy.

I haven't ever had to share a space before so I probably will cause problems with cutting off and not giving way - just warning.

I've never riden on sand or salt lakes before. Would you suggest I bring my knee pads along?

Knee and elbow pads are essential on lake walyungup. If you are on a board I would suggest gloves as well. (Helmet is essential everywhere).

Don't worry about sharing space, there is heaps of room as long as you are watching what is in front of you.

We hardly ever crash :blackeye: !

We would love to see more people down there :friends: it's always great to see a few kites in the air.

I second Bones - helmet, knee and elbow pads are essential, the surface is pretty abrasive.

I'm giving tomorrow a miss - unless there is a huge change in the forecast!

Went out for a couple of hours yesterday early and the wind was mental - blowing 15-16 knots with gusts of 24-26 (top end for the access is 25 knots), pretty scary at times!

I had a go on the board with the kite today and managed to get rolling (and stop!). I have also been playing downhill!

The wind was gusty and I went to a park rather than the salt lake as I thought it would be more forgiving!

Had a couple of hours down there this morning, pretty gusty, but had fun with the buggy and board.

Also go towed on and off the lake by a very friendly blokarter (in his ute not the blokart!) :clapping:

May take the board out tomorrow arvo as the wind looks better then and find a nice grassy park.

We went out last Saturday. There was a good breeze when we got there and I managed to equal my best speed on the third run while still feeling there was more there. Then the wind backed off a fraction and the 4.4 reactor just didn't want to power up. This has been the story of my summer, just never quite enough wind. I need a slightly bigger kite. Jo managed to get her hand stung by a bee while we were putting the buggies together, which made holding the handles a bit difficult for her.

Next weekend we are going on holiday for a couple of months, so we won't be around until summer is well and truly over.

So you will be back in time for the restrictions on Lake Walyungup! Have a good trip...

I noticed some motor-bikes down there yesterday evening and the gate had been broken off again when i drove past this morning - for about the third time in the last month!

Easterlies forecast for the weekend, will definitely be there early Sunday and hope I avoid the showers and beat the toy planes :hunter: . May try for Saturday as well or head to some grass and have a go with the board. I think I need to improve a bit as the surface of the lake will hurt!

Well for the first time in what seams like ages I am going to head down to the lake tomorrow arvo with the buggy, board and kites and hope the wind comes in a bit earlier than forecast.

I'm off now until the 28th so will try and get a few kite sessions in as well as some downhill! :goplay:

Well, I had a play Thursday arvo and again this arvo, southerly winds so only shorter runs but lots of sideways :D and played with the board and buggy.

Will try to get down a couple of times in the week and the weekend. :D no toy planes or yachts the whole place just for me :good:
