crabman Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 Seriously, stop whinging about brightness and turn the brightness down on your monitor. You're most likely causing damage to your eyes having it that bright all the time Agree - I don't see the brightness as a problem whatsoever. I find this no more difficult to read than iTunes, Facebook, Racekites, Google etc, etc. My only gripe would be the use of screen width. Not really a problem on my PC, but on the iPod it all gets a tad small... Quote

Spock Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 i find the text to be too small to read, when i knock it up a size with the mousewheel+ctrl it makes it big enough to read, but makes the page big enough to need scroll bars. this font is all over the place too when constructing a post, looks like there are spaces in the middle of some words. on the stickies, when i enlarge text size (so i can read it), the thread title bleeds over the sticky icons (the ! and ? in coloured circles). Spockian84Spyke is also viewing this thread. Quote

Is that two friends you have or is it one friend with a laptop and a PC? It's just that I remember the days when one friend was enough. Quote

Morb Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 The main thing wrong with this forum is the idiots on it and the crap that they post.:D:D Quote

Crispy Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 Seriously, stop whinging about brightness and turn the brightness down on your monitor. You're most likely causing damage to your eyes having it that bright all the time I've invested plenty of time and money on colour calibration tools for my monitors. I'm not going to wreck the calibration for one forum. Quote
zimmer Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 The main thing wrong with this forum is the idiots on it and the crap that they post.:D:D Guilty as charged. I'll hang my posting finger up when I start posting about star trek and Martians though. Quote

spiky_dave Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 I've invested plenty of time and money on colour calibration tools for my monitors. I'm not going to wreck the calibration for one forum. You'd get on great with one of the people in our group, his entire phd is on colour and how we percieve colour.... The whole light / dark thing is actually pretty complicated. Firstly, actually ignoring light and dark, colour makes a large amount of difference. Our eyes aren't set up to look at bright white details on a black background, or vice versa, for very long. white on colour, black on colour, or colour on white or black, thats fine, we can cope with that all day - indeed, the least straining colour combinatiion is green on black. We like green. Coming back to light and dark, the problem is usually not actually whether you have light on dark or dark on light, its that with reference to your environment. Broadly speaking, you want the background to be broadly the same luminance as the world around you. To give you extremes - turn all the lights off, have your screen bright and try reading a long black text on white background document. Its uncomfortable very quickly. Equally, going the other way, trying to read white text on a black background in glaring sunshine is hard on the eyes too. Thats why we use white paper with black writing (or at least light coloured paper). The paper, being diffuse, gives you the same vague luminance as the world around you, so reading it is easy. The problem is a monitor isn't passive, it actually throws light out of its own. Theoretically you need to match the luminance of the background of your page to the luminance of the world around you. If you stare at a monitor all day you will tend to want light text on dark because you don't want to have your environment as bright as a bright monitor all the time - glaring electric lights are pretty harsh on the eyes after a while. But its all irrelevant if you look at a page for half an hour a day and nothing more. Quote
zimmer Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 There is a plugin for the brightness, works on any browser >HERE Quote
parksy Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 (edited) It is a little ...LOUD Hmmm, formatting doesn't work quite well yet The size format didn't work because you put 7 in quotes, try without and it will work, but I'm not sure about your sig, it may be that the fonts/colors are not supported Edited February 7, 2010 by parksy Quote
Blademeat Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 I think what you have done with this site over the years is very admirable. My only real complaint now is that the smileys dont stand out so well and I have to hover over them to check that I am using the correct one. On a plus note the cursor is much easier to see when editing the text if I have to move back a few words. Probably both due to the bright background. Is there a halfway point that can be a quick fix? Great site regardless and thats the most important thing. Well done. Quote
vibro100 Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 Well, i dont like the white background. Not good on the eyes, makes it alot harder to use. Quote
payneib Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 am liking the size/phont changes, but not the white background, just too harsh on the eyes. Quote

andrewjohn Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 I suppose it'll take time to adjust to finding where things are, but have to agree with most, it's just tooooooooo bright, especially when the wife and nipper are sat watching a film in the dark. Quote
