Dan Masochist Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Think im gonna have to try to format it on a pc as i've tried most of the option on my mac. Anyone know if this thing charges batteries through usb? Format the card using the camera. The camera wont switch on if the cards installed even when on usb Quote

Anyone know if this thing charges batteries through usb? The camera wont switch on if the cards installed even when on usb Did you get this sorted fella ? Really tempted with the GoPro Helmet Hero 5 Wide, no way I can afford the HD thou Cheapest ive seen the camera with helmet kit is £153 posted, any better anyone ? Quote
Dan Masochist Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Nope not really tried tbh, im not going out on the water when its this cold so i got a few weeks i reckon to get it sorted. I think my Dad paid £149.99 posted on ebay for my one but its the motorsport one. Quote
freefall Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 i'v just brought the hd gopro motorsport for £205 from US (ebay), delivered with an 8gb card. i may or may not get taxed when its comes about £35. hopefully worth the extra but still seems a pretty good price. I havent got it yet but wondering how its fixed to the board? do you use the flat sticky mounts, and then leash it to somthing just incase it comes off? Quote
FiendishMcButt Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Heres a bit of line cam footage using an ATC 2k Give me a shout if your interested in how the frame was made. Took about twenty mins to put together and you should be able to make it work with any cam mount. Oh it pretty light weight and can be made to work with either frontline, rearline, mini 5th or 5th line safety. Quote
mick Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 I've just bought a tiny camera from Maplins called Mini DV Bos. A quick run thro of the spec but don't boo just yet. 640 x480 @ 25 frames/ sec. Rechargable via usb for 2 hrs. Supplied 2 gb micro sd. for 2hrs of vid. Load of fixing brackets and straps, lapel clips etc. Size roughly 55 mm x 20 x 20. Now it aint waterproof (yet) and the quality is only 2 megapixel but its vox controlled as well. I clipped it on my kite lines and flew it up to 40 mtres. Got some good pics of my field. The upside. £50. complete. All I gotta do is make a little water proof housing. I'll post a few pics when i get chance. Sorry to hijack your Go pro. Seen some great surfing vids with the Go pro. Some guy in the tube. Awesome. Quote
pilotdreams Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 I just bought the gopro hd megapack. Im hoping to show you guys what kind of kiting there is on the 9th largest lake in the world, totally frozen over. Quote
kikabyte Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 Could someone offer me some advice on this.... I have been looking around at some of the HD camera's from JVC, Panasonic etc for making vids of holidays etc.. they are all in the £350 mark, and offer decent quality filming... However, I am now quite interested in how they compare to the GoPro HD? I suppose first benefit, you have a waterproof camera to take anywhere, making videos of wet and dry activities... but does the quality suffer due to its size, lens etc? Ta Chris Chris Quote
marman Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 Quality does not suffer at all on the GoPro, its also pretty good in low light for a small lens. Only downside as a standard camera, no view finder / zoom Quote
muttley99 Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 (edited) i have this camera Pentax Optio W60, Pentax Optio W60 Digital Camera - Digitalrev with one of these mounted on my helmet. http://www.surfershotshop.com/Surf-Camera-case/Surf-Camera/flypage_new.tpl.html and this is some footage from it with pics at the end taken with the same camera and some helmet footage. There is now a upgrade out. Pentax optio w80. Edited January 5, 2010 by muttley99 changed link. Quote
_Geordie_ Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 I don't agree - I've got a panasonic HDC-SD100 and its quality is certainly better than the Go-Pro HD - this is probably down to 2 things - the sensor and the optics. But given that it was twice the price of the Go-Pro HD no suprise there. They are designed with different purposes is mind and each is excellent at what it does. I wouldn't use my Go-Pro as a camcorder simply because of the fisheye lens. That said though the Go-Pro HD is still pretty good and perfect for sports, I'm stoked with mine - great bit of kit. Editing HD video is a lengthy process with large files though - I've got a high end machine and it grinds it to a halt! Quote

Am not saying it's the best camera out there but for under half the price for a more versatile camera, it's a great buy. Quote

thelukeandrews Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 hmmmmm just had a thought It uses an SD card right? Anyone tried quickly popping that into another digital camera to see if you can view what's on it? it'd be really nice to be able to see the footage somehow before getting home! (gonna be in the alps without a laptop for 10 days.. I'll end up deleting the awesome stuff and keeping the crap stuff) Quote
Bigbud Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 Think the camera's output to specific folders and will only read them folders. Good Idea thou ! Quote
thelukeandrews Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 oooh i just ha a brainwave! ok checkit, get a sd adapter for a micro sd card that goes into a phone. cos a phone can view just about anything these days. much more so than another brand of digital camera anyways.. Quote
denny Posted January 12, 2010 Author Report Posted January 12, 2010 Hi there iv just placed my SD card out of Go Pro in to my digital camera watched all footage worked perfect (digital camrea Vivitar ) hope this helps Quote
mick Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 Well heres a little bit from mine on Saturday. It was only clipped on my lapel and my zip obscured the view but at the end I think the clarity is good. Oh don't forget, this complete set up with card, charger and all the mounts was only £50. Downside, it aint water proof but at no bigger than your thumb, a housing will be a piece of p1ss to make. Seal it in and you're away. How can you turn it on? Its sound activated as well. Don't laugh or take the p1ss too much. snow board video by micktryx - Photobucket Quote
