koma Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Just a quick video i chopped together from the session at Altona on Saturday. Enjoy. I really should start taking the camera with me whilst i'm riding. Was as awesome session! Quote
gcdave Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Nice That water is flat as a tack! Dave Quote
koma Posted January 23, 2011 Author Report Posted January 23, 2011 Nice That water is flat as a tack! Dave Yep, that's about as flat as i've ever seen it with a 20-22kn easterly. The downside is that as the title of the video suggests... toxic days and neon nights... the 'water' is disgusting. Quote
Jev Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 It's not just flat and toxic but you can get some nice injuries when you stack you landing in ankle deep water. It's my 5th week off the water now after severely spraining my ankle at altona and videos like this help me stay sane. Cheers for the vid! Quote
JKS Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 You want 'Toxic' ..... you come to Brisbane Cool vid Jason Quote

When the tide is that much out, I take out my super flat fineless board, can skim over 25mm deep water. Can't wait to see the vid Jason, have to wait till I get home, at work at the moment. Quote
plummet Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 nice! so thats only in ankle deep water? nutters. gives you the ellusion of safety but really its no better than jumping on land aye? some nice kite loops and float jumps. exuse my freestyling ignorance but what the wake style more with the kite low and you just pop out of the water with your legs flailing behind you? ralley? S bend? i'm out of the loop. but have done my own gay version of them before. ps i had my first ever flat water session the other day. wind was coming over the land and gusty as shit. but it was still sweet to be on such flat water. the biggest ripples was me riding over my own wake!. koma Posted January 31, 2011 Author Report Posted January 31, 2011 That area goes completely dry at low tide, so you can only kite there on mid to high tide. The highest tide and the deepest the water ever gets is about 70cm, and most of our sessions (that one included) are on about 20-40cm of water. It's not as bad as you'd think though, as once you learn to crash in shallow water you rarely hit the ground. The unhooked kite low move where you pop and throw the board up and behind you is called a railey. If it's hooked in or unhooked and kite above 45º then it's a gailey. If you do a forward rotation once you've gotten to horizontal (or close to it) then it's an S-bend. Flat water with smooth consistent wind makes learning new tricks so much easier. Quote
tookie Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 Hey koma what sort of camera did you use as i am after one myself cheers Rob. Was the pick of the year that day. Quote
koma Posted February 6, 2011 Author Report Posted February 6, 2011 Hey Rob - sure was a damn sweet day! There's only been maybe one or two other sessions this season that came close. It was filmed on a ContourHD 1080 with a waterproof housing. You can buy them locally for ~$450 or import them from the US for a bit under $400. I personally prefer it over the GoPro HD, but each has it's benefits. Quote
tookie Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 Nice footage koma thanks for the info on the camera bring on the wind. Quote
.Joel Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 How did I miss this? That was fcuking brilliant! Harry is certainly becoming a smart ass Lee looked completely under-juiced! That ContourHD takes some nice footage for the size of the thing. PS: I didn't see Tookie in the video, he must of been cruising for strays Regards, .Joel Quote

NFI how you missed it... but i did post it the weekend you boys were in Kingston, so must've just slipped your radar. Before i started filming i was absolutely perfectly powered on my 12m Torch, but as the sun went down the wind eased off a bit. I did steal the Griffin off Lee for a bit of a blast and gave Harry a bit of a surprise... in low light i went barrelling at him at high speed then boosted and looped - Harry thought it was Lee! Really looking forward to getting up to Alva Beach for the Nationals and filming some of the action up there. I'll have the ContourHD for the water shots and my new DSLR for long range video footage.
