robeair Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 I know this has been asked many times and I'm sure it will be asked many more so sorry if your bored with the questions Can any one recommend a decent helmet for the £30 price range looked at Cebe Impact helmet, Six Six One Dirt Lightweight and mullet, also a pro tech. The bern helmets look cool but seem pretty pricey. Also can anyone recommend a good place to buy from (online as Im in cornwall and too far to most decent retail outlets) I am also looking for a low cost pad set too if anyone sees any bargains out there Cheers all, Rob Quote
Weasel Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 Anything you but to protect ur head is a good move so dont worry to much about what one you get, just go for one that you like the look of. I still recomend the stateside cammo cheepy but thats not for everyone. i'd go for a bern but dont have the money. check this place, i got mine from here: http://www.powerkiteshop.com/accessories/accessoriessafety.htm Quote
Kush Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 I've got a brand new never been worn Pro-tech Ace (size Medium - I'll have to double check the size I can't remember if it's Medium or Large) I know I bought another one as I needed it pronto, the one that's for sale has just sat in it's box as I never got round to sending it back to Powerkiteshop! So if your interested measure your nugget and have a look at the site linked above as that's where I got it from. (Think it's £40 on there but not sure as cannot access in work) £30 plus P&P Quote
Trpp Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 I use a Bell BMX helmet, go for about 16 - 25 quid on the bay. It does te job for me! Quote
lewisg1 Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 http://www.powerkiteshop.com/accessories/sixsixonedirthelmet.htm im getting this one next week so i can get jumping on the board, looks good and its a brand ive had experience with before that i know i can trust. Less than your budget but would do the job well. Quote
Angoose Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 http://www.brainbucket.co.uk for all your helmet needs, also got a bunch on offer last time i looked. i rate the protec range mega highly and for £35 for most helmets an awesome price aswell Quote
GaRRy Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 Cant really say what to buy as I dont kiteboard. However there is a old saying among motorcyclists that you buy a ten dollar lid for a ten dollar head. In other words buy the best helmet you can afford as a helmet that is no use might as well not exist remember you only have one brain and once its damaged it dont get better. Quote
BoooSt Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 ive got one of these http://www.bernunlimited.com/2008/baker.html i know you said £30 limit but i got mine for £40 and its fookin ace Quote
Weasel Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 ive got one of these http://www.bernunlimited.com/2008/baker.html i know you said £30 limit but i got mine for £40 and its fookin ace Where did you buy it from??? And did you get it with the ear warmer bits and all. I realy like the look of these things and will snap one up as soon as i have spare cash. Quote
BoooSt Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 ^^^ I got it while snowbording in france, BUT if you google it up you'll find them. I did get it with the ear warmers but even without they are great Quote
Dennis3131 Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 Clive Mitchel cycles bike shop in Truro has loads of lid's all different prices and pad sets. There a good TSG one with a peak, think I will get one. Quote
captain caveman Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 i have a POC snowboard helmet ..... i think i paid £60 last year but i'm sure you could pick up the same model cheaper now its 2009 ..... cant recommend the brand highly enough Quote
andrewjohn Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 I know it's not easy down here Rob but it's worth the extra effort of trying them on before you buy one. A good fitting lid will protect your head better than a poor fitting one. Quote
robeair Posted September 16, 2009 Author Report Posted September 16, 2009 (edited) Thanks for all the input guys I'll let you know how I get on. I may try a couple of skate and cycle shops as suggested :-) Edited September 16, 2009 by robeair Quote
abba Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 Bern are worth every penny had mine a while now... and wouldn't replace it with anything else! Last time i was in Truro my brother found a small skate shop... managed to get a pair of super rare Nike SB's Limited editions Might be worth a hunt around! Quote
FiendishMcButt Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 I would suggest trying before you buy as heads tend to be a different shape and it's pointless buying a helmet that just moves around on your head.# Take a look at snow/skate/BMX helmets they are all pretty much the same. It's only really the water ones that are different. Personally i use a snowboard helmet for my land based stuff as i find them much more comfy and nice n toasty in winter. Quote
Trpp Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 ive got one of these http://www.bernunlimited.com/2008/baker.html i know you said £30 limit but i got mine for £40 and its fookin ace OMG they rock, XXXL!!!! finally a size that will fit over my dready head without being too snug:D gotta get me one of those Quote
frequent flyer Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 I bought one of these so I could keep my ears warm in the winter, the sides detach for the summer months. Quote
one_i_vision Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 i use a R.E.D snowboard helmet Quote
robeair Posted September 19, 2009 Author Report Posted September 19, 2009 Thought I would let everyone know that I have been out shopping in Truro as suggested by Dennis3131 (thanks for the tip) and have now bought a TSG Evolution. Fits great and not too badly priced at £30. Can be bought for a couple of quid less online but I like to support local shops, and it was worth it to try first and know it fits nicely. I was surprised to find that the 661 helmets did not fit my head so well guess everyone will find different makes fit better or worse. So as Andy put it, it is well worth trying before buying. Thanks to everyone who gave input :-) Now all I need is for my board to arrive. Cheers, Rob Quote
