Hi guys and gals,

I currently have a 4.5m bullet and was considering adding a depower to my collection as I have read that it could be a lot better for Landboarding. I usually fly in fairly gusty inland conditions on a couple of footy pitches and have been offered a 10m Venom (not sure which version) for NZ$650. Would this be more likely to be more stable in the gusts than the bullet, or am I likely to be wipped off my feet:p

Do you think the addition of a Venom is a worthwhile investment,or should I stick with my bullet for the moment? What advantages would I gain with the venom?

Any advice would be appreciated as there are no other power kiters in my town!

Thanks, Mitch

Mitch,

an arc would be perfect for gusty winds, which is what the venom is. Be careful though, due to the shape of the kite, you dont get as much power per square meter as a foil. Depending on your weight the right size all round kite can vary. How heavy are you? A 10m is normally seen as a high wind kite if you are 10/11+ stone. If you are looking for an all rounder then i would suggest a 13m or 16 if you are quite heavy.

Arcs are great kites due to being very good in gusts, having auto zenith (let go of the bar and the kite will fly to right above you- where most of the time it is safe), pretty good depower and lots of lift.

Bullets were made as a 'reduced lift' kite so if you have been jumping you will find your self going much higher and with more float with a venom!

650nz is......231 pounds- if this is a venom2 then that is reasonable. I suggest you do some research on a 13m venom. You can get a good example over here for about 180 quid-504nz. I would definitely say go for a depower!

I was in the same boat with a 4.5 Bullet - I went for a 12m Sabre2 and haven't looked back. Never flown the Venom so can't comment on that but would def recommend getting a depower - will make your life a ot easier and a lot more fun! Your flying time will only get limited by the wind, daylight or tides - sore / tired arms will no longer be a problem!! Will take a couple of sessions to get used to but once you do you'll love it! Good luck with your decision.

Been buggying for a few years with fixed bridles. Got hold of cheap landboard and tried it with a 4m buster. Not nice to watch:o Borrowed son's 13 V2 and rolling in seconds, even with a degree of control:D Son is also advancing quickly with depower.

Agree with Mac on the kite size. Unless you live in an area prone to regular high winds 20mph plus, then better off with the 13.

love my 13v1 it works great in sub 10mph on a beach and upto 30++.

i'm quite heavy yet still get tons of float in all the right places, this kite has taught me a lot and other fixed bridle kite users are unable to fly in the conditions your venom will handle.

the 10m V1 is like a witch on crack(turns super fast and bites), the 13m is far more easy going and controlable.

Everybody says arcs are great in gusty conditions but i find that i get randomly picked up off the ground, not high but i still think they are dangerous in sharp gusts because of that, bear in mind i fly a scorp not a venom though.

Also i only wiegh 9 stone and the 13 scorp is good for me from 8 up to early 20s in the winter winds summer wind can take it to 30. I think the venom might be a bit more powerfull though.

Dont get a 10m as its a high wind kite really. As said above a 13 or even a 16m venom would be ideal. 14m vortex would do the job too, they are great kites i like em more than the venoms. Or offcourse a 12m synergy best arcs ever!!

Thanks guys, I'm about 70kg /(11st?) so It sounds like I'd be better off to look for a slightly bigger kite. However where I live its is quite often a lot windier than I dare got out with my bullet, because I get randomly lifted vertically when the kite is at the zenith and a big gust come along!

When people say about the quick turning of a 10m venom (I've since found out the one I was offered is a 2007 model), does anyone know what this is like compared to a 4.5Bullet?

Thanks guys, time to hit the net again to find a bigger venom :)

the 10 venom and being inexperienced will be a lot to handle, very fast through the air and will spank you lol (it is a high wind kite), go for the 13 it will be a bit slower and more manageable then when you get confident either go up a size (16) or down (10) im allways on my 16, only get the 13 out when the 16 gets to much, havent had the chance to use my g2 9 but know thats going to be fun (had a v10 before) hope this helps

ok 650nzd is WAY overpriced for a venom. Should be able to get one around the $4-500 mark or less. A mate of mine bought a venom a month ago for $250 it did have some repairs. In nz allmost all kitesurfers are using bow/sle and arcs are almost worthless as the land scene is almost non exsistant here.

I had a 10m venom and it was a cracker of a kite and very controllable... Wind ranger for me wash 16-30knots or there abouts. you could fly it in less wind but it was fairly boring.

ps i doubt it will be faster than your bullet but it will have alot more lift! even in the 10m size. i've been well over head height in sub 20knot winds!

but i do agree with the guys 10 is really a second high wind kite. for a one kite quiver 13m might be thge better size.

pss once you step into depower yourl sell the bullet and very look back! ooh yeah its a whole different level of kiting.

PSSS get you self on the nz forum and post a wanted add in the for sale column. yourl have various options thrown at you.

250NZD is like 100€ thats a steal!! 650 is just under 300€ thats still a good deal on a V2 10 if theres a decent bar with it.

Just sold mine for 305€ with an old bar and i was very happy with that price, they go for less here on the forum..

Would have tought the NZ market was bigger tho, are beaches really deserted over there? Or is it cauz they are in low populated areas?

generally people kite surf rather than do any land based kiting! buggying is alot bigger than landboarding. I only know of 5 hardcore landboarders around the country and 2 of them are poms!

i went to a kiting event called the moose meet. there was about 30-40 kite surfers, 20 ish buggiers and me the lone landboarder!

ps went i sold my 14m 07 frenzy the most i could get for it was $450nzd..... deffinatly a different market to uk.
