Chances are if its not an easterly you will have the beach to yourself anyway, if there are a few of us there, we just love helping anyone out especially newbies, you only have to come over and introduce yourself....generally pick a spot north of the seal sanctury away from everyone else, and have a blast.

Hi there, not really been on the lincoln thread for ages but i have a question for any resedents of lincoln city.

I'll be a resedent soon in the univercity, and am wondering if it'll be worth it to bring my kite kit? Are there any fields with in walking distance of the town center good for flying and even buggying?

Within walking distance from the centre of town, I would head to the West Common, 10-15 min walk, Carholme road and keep walking, you will see the old Grandstand cant miss the expanse of grass!

Right down the end of the high street, near south park roundabout is the South Common. Plenty of space there as well.

On the way to Washingborough, near the Bowling alley and Crematorium is the cow paddle. Not good on Sundays though as its used for Sunday league football.

There is a field the otherside of the road from Hartsholme park. Football fields again but should be enough space for a fly.

I would say they are your best bets. Once I am up and running with a kite you are more than welcome to hitch a lift should there be any meets out on the coast.

Cheers for the heads up, shindig. I've doubts about west and south common though, ones couvered in horses, the other surrounded by houses and is quite a lot of hill...

I should try them out before giving up on kiting though :)

@ Pilgrim: Yeah, my parents can't wait either, i'm only eight years late. What course is your daughter going to be studying? I'm going to be one of the bods on Media Production.

What a pleasure to meet up with the legendary Phil Pig again last night sporting a rather impressive looking new buggy (sure I seen that before......:p )

Made a feeble attempt to buggy at Saltfleet Haven last night - lol.............

probably the worst session I've had for a long time. Not enough wind even for Guerilla 18 and the more lunges I made along the beach the muddier and softer the sand became. Of course there was one big blast of wind to haul me through the treacle about a mile away from the car...

I noticed that the bigfoots were about 4 inches bigger in diameter - cacked with mud. I was probably the same as every time a bit of wind fired up some speed in the buggy, it deposited said mud from the wheels all over the pilot (we've all been there....)

I then kept waiting for another gust to get me back but it took about an hour. The whole time I watched the tide moving up the river towards the car ........

Got back in time. :o

Folks gave me a strange look as I greeted them at the riverside - I realised why when I looked in the car mirror - the monster from the mud had just walked in off the beach.

(Much of the beach from the Haven is now trickling through the gravel on my drive and some is filtering through the washing machine)

The things we do when we get desperate eh..............

Made up for it today Carl.

Had 2 hours at Sandilands and after a piffling south westerly, a nice south easterly up to about 17 mph set in, and I towed the Cameleon round. 9 year old decided that being pebbledashed wasn't for her so the back seat was empty most of the time. ( Honestly - youngsters these days ..............just no spirit like back in my day.............) :D

Ellie's embarking on a BA Fine Art & Illustration, so she'll be trogging up to the Greestone Building next to the Usher Gallery most days - that will be fun hauling an A1 portfolio bag! I'm planning to modify a shopping or suitcase trolley to assist - must get on with that:rolleyes:

On the kite front I'm still grounded, my knee is taking forever to fix. The Doc says it just takes time but it's been 10 weeks now...I'm sure it will stand up to some gentle buggy cruising though so next decent Easterly and I'm giving it a go.

Very best of luck to her. I was in college at Christ Hospital Terrace which is up past steep hill past readers rest but before Leslys tea shop. It was a killer every day to start with, but you do get used to it. Flew up the hill like a mountain goat in some days... not so much like a mountain goat others :D

Somthing one of the A1 art portfolio people did was bolt skateboard trucks to the bottom of it (it was one of those solid blue ones) No idea if it worked but it looked cool :)

Good luck with the knee, just take it easy and fly two sizes smaller. ;)

hello guys, just a quick line on my recent visit to your fabulous beach, i managed to get a couple of days earlier this week and i`ve gotta say i am completely hooked!! the wind was`nt great and as someone said earlier in the thread it was very soft and sticky but on my last run on the last day i managed to go from right up by the nature reserve down to the "town" no great distance i know but at one point for about 20 seconds it was silent but for the whir of the tyres, and a faint whistle of wind through my lines:D :D and i have to say guys it was beautiful, proper bliss and i`m hoping to get back for a day with a mate in a week or so..250 mile round trip for the day but i`d do it again for another 20 seconds like those..atvb dave
