Hey Guys

I am looking at getting a 2010 Best Kahoona later on in the year, can i ask what your opinions are on the previous model, is it a good kite to learn on yet, but not outgrow in a couple of weeks given that I have been landkiting for 2 yrs now

Cheers

I have heard good things about the Naish Charger, very easy to relaunch, and the Naish bar has to be one of the best on the market.

I believe Briskites are using them for their lessons now, so should make for a good beginners kite.

The 2009 Kahoona is a great kite, easy to fly and super easy to relaunch. There are virtually no 2008/2009/2010 kitesurfing kites that you could possibly outgrow in 2 years, let alone 2 weeks.

The 2009 Kahoona is well built and will take a lot of punishement while you are learning, the safety system works well and is very similar to how the Cab IDS and Core kites work, plus it has o'shits on both rear lines at the bar, so there are lots of ways to kill the kite and self land.

Only negative I have is the QR, should be red and be able to be refitted either way up, and the lines are not kook proofed and colour coded. (I easily fixed that issue with 2 packets of Ozone pigtails!)

I know Kitepower Geelong and I think Kite Republic both sell Best kites in Vic.

cheers steve

it is good to hear peoples opinion on the kites, and also the safety aspect, cause I certainly have to consider that, I am not used to being harnessed in as I fly my blade on handles.

Thanks again mate

Its a bit freaky when you first harness in, I can still remember the feeling, but it was a long time ago and not with modern equipment.

I must dig out my old Rip Curl chest harness that I used to attach all sorts of power kites to and post some pics, it was a scary thing for sure, not even very comfy!

Get proper lessons in the water. Do not let any instructor harness you to a kite on land with the intention to fly the kite on land, make sure they take you into water at least waist deep straight after launching with deeper water downwind and no obstacles downwind.

Thats a very open ended question! :)

There are literally hindreds of options and combos, however for a short simple answer you could not go wrong with any of the "buy any kite and get a free board" options we have available at Kitepower, now.

There is also a large range of used or near new ex demo, or even new superseeded kites, both from Kitepower and many retailers now that the end of the southern season is nearing.

The season up North though is just starting, was just talking to a mate and dealer up FNQ and he says the winds have been awesome over the lat 10 days (he is well above the cyclone area).

Its worth budgetting for a mid winter eascape to somewhere like Cairns/Port Douglas, flights are cheap if booked well in adavance.

Hey Steve, just noticed that they're only using 2 pulleys on this Kahoona (one each side) and they've opted for the sliding rings.

How much movement do the front bridles with the rings have under normal riding? Are they more or less fixed and the rings are used as part of the front line safety, or are they an active element in the kites depower range?

They move a minimal amount and are there more for the safety system when its operated. Very similar to the Cab IDSX setup and several other dual front line depowering kites like Core, fone, etc.

Yep, that's what i thought. I was just interested as i've never spent any time watching exactly how they fly.

Not really my thing. ;)
