captain caveman Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 how long was it until you were happy with your quiver ? it seems ive wasted alot of time buying and selling kites and not alot flying i'm nearly there now and i am actually really enjoying the kites i have ! well ? Quote
Sammy1599968740 Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 18 months and still going!! but money's an issue here. Quote
Atavar Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 It appears i'm easily pleased. After getting the 4.9m, i needed the 3m to fill the gap but that was probbably only a month. I live in a really gusty area so anything much bigger that isn't depower wouldn't be safe imo. Quote
Shick Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 I am a lucky man, I bought a 3.5 rage, loved it. Sticked to rages now have a 6 and a 2.5. Dispite many others buying and selling I have stuck to what suits me. Take advice, fly a few kites, when you find one you like stick with it and just change the sizes. It makes dialing in a bit easier. Don't be afraid of having kites that are no longer cool or are not what everyone else has at your field / beach. Quote
marman Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Have swapped about quite alot but have always enjoyed what I have flown, or its gone asap after buying it, want different kit as style progresses and you find yourself wanting some things over others. various foils and LEI's/SLE's and for the last couple of years been back on the foils Quote
andrewjohn Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Took me about 3yrs to be 100% happy. Quote
Slipstream1599968661 Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Problem i think is most people don't give the kit they have got a fair go, and are generaly pritty quick to sell it and try something new. I started on firebees had the complete set 2m upto 8.5m Then started to progress and moved on the Blades (Mk2) Again got a full set. Now moved over to de-power because I wanted to move onto the water. so brought Waroo's 07 now got a 5m, 9m & 15m. Once I was happy with what did me best in any given conditions i sold the once's i didn't use. Saying that I Buggy, board & surf so I need a mixed bag. I am now left with: 2m Firebee 3m Blade (Mk2) 7.8m Blade (Mk2) 5m, 9m & 15m Waroo (07) 7m FS Speed (1) 13m FS Speed (1) Am I happy............................For now. Quote
shrimpo Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Am I happy............................For now. Won't last...........that's just you. Took longer for me, Busters, Bullets, Blades, race kites differnt types... now on Access XC, and happy with these.... Some of it is to do with the development of the different kites over the years,, De-power have changed so much, they are more user friendly now, with good safety systems, the early ones even when on the ground could still drag you... Some of it is your flying style, and where you fly most... Agree with Slipstream, some people don't give the kites enough time, and change to quick... Shrimpo Quote
-Olly- Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 well ive tried lots of kites and worked out i dotn like arcs cause i find them unfriendly to fly on my own i like dp's but thats best foir mountainboardign which i dotn do and fb is the best for buggying Quote
avspider Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 I love my latest quiver - the dreaded RM+'s, well saying that I've only flown the 6/8/10, and love them!! I loved my 3 yaks, only sold them to finance the Rm's Previously to them I had a load of razor's which I loved, and only sold them to finance the yak's Now between us we have; 2.1LD on 15m lines!! Wicked storm kite 2.5m punk on 20m ozone lines/handles 3m Sami mk1 - going on to 20's very soon 4.5 cult on 20's 2/3/4/5/6/7/8/10 JOJO RM+. a very pink flexi and a mk2 phoon Buggies; the list is long... PL - then modded it, mk1 phoon, pogona - then modded it loads, barracuda - then modded it (in a big way), then a custom skinny iguana, now loving the mk2 'phoon - and it's not standard!! Quote
denziltrevaskis Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 i was most happiest with a quiver of phantoms i had in late 2004 - 9m 12m and 15m. for one they looked great just sat in their bags, but i had all my wind ranges covered i totally loved them and never been happier with another quiver though maybe that's just because four years ago (not really that long i know) it was an incredibly new sport for me don't really have a quiver now, just sort of keep hold of a 10m inflato. that does me from 15knots to 30knots, i used different boards. still want to go kiting as much as ever - more than ever - think at last the kit right accross the board is no longer between you and where you want to be Quote
bubbawillums Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Im happy with my kit now and wont be spending vast amounts for a while( i hope) Started with a 2.4m radsail then got a 3.5m bullet to go with it,then a 5m beamer, then a 4.9 blade 3(all in the space of 12 weeks).. Sold the bullet and beamer and bought a 12m peter lynn phantom, then sold the blade coz i loved the arcs, bought a 9m phanny and recenty got a 16m venom. Got a sweet trampa board on revos with a set of rockstar pros and i'm very happy with my current quiver! Oh and i got a cheapo 4m pansh ace for messing about on! Quote
Kite Kid Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 i am happy with every kite i have had apart from the flexi firestorm, but its just human nature to want the newest thing Quote
captain caveman Posted October 4, 2008 Author Report Posted October 4, 2008 i started with a 3.5 rage ..... loved it so i got a 5m bullet to sit along side the rage but i soon got bored due to lack of lift ..... sold those two and bought a 5m haka , hated that so sold it and tried a blurr , didnt like that either so bought a 8m evo x air and 10m z air box ...... didnt get on to well on depower so i sold the 8m and bought 3m riot for a laugh and i love it .... i think fixed bridle suits me more ..... so i bought a 7m riot and i'm hopefully gonna get a 5m riot asap ..... i love the riots and its also nice to still have the 10m z air so i can practice on those perfect wind days ..... as soon as i have the 5m i'll be a happy boy with no intension of doing anything but flying them Quote
Anne1599968726 Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 I started with a Radsail 2.4 which was ok to learn the basics but pretty awful in a buggy when I borrowed one (and in general though I didn't know any better) I also picked up a couple of Blade III's, a 4m and an 8.5 I enjoyed the blades but they were a bit much for me, especially as I was borrowing people's buggies at every possible opportunity I also borrowed a mate's Bullets quite a lot, and although they were good and I was learning every session, they somehow didn't grab me. I then got hold of a 2.5 and 5.5 Airea Raptor II's and fell completely in love with them both - despite the 5.5 putting me in casualty and the 2.5 having 2 blown out cells (was even better after I got it repaired) After that it was a gradual process to get rid of the radsail and the blades and build up a quiver of the Raptors (except the 6.5), a matter of a few months at most, and I've been flying them for near 2 years now and still adore them. (I also have a 2m Brooza and 1.5 Bullet for high winds) At the same time I managed to get myself a buggy - a Libre V-Max - which I've gradually modified into something thats a little scruffy and nowhere near perfect, but is just about raceable with the seat low, and is excellent for all-terrain buggying with the seat high and the bellypan on. Quote
Craig Sparkes Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Perfect set up for me is Set of Blade IV's which have had for a couple of years, then made it evan more perfect with a couple of blurr's. Quote
Frakke1599968664 Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 full set of Biv's and a rage 2.5m - that'll do donkey and a couple of buggy's if ya get me drift hung em for a while mind as I've got another project on ATM will be back to it when some employer pays to ship em out to "cold land" Laters F Quote
Draggin Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Well when I started (with the buggy) I really wanted to like the bullets, I bought the 2.5 mk1 and it is an animal but I love it and won't sell it but I could not get on with the others in the range (had the 7, tried the 5.5 and 4mtr but did not like them). In the end I went with Ozone samurai (mostly mk1), I am not a racer just a crusier, I would like a set of Access XC's but just can't justify the cost at the moment. Tim Quote

Tim I used to use my buddy's bullets all the time, really the only good ones were the 1.5 (twitchy little beggar tho), the 2.5 and the later version of the 5.5 The 7 was a slug, the 3.5 just overflew and stalled, and the 4.5 was generally a bit **** and pointless but maybe just because the 5.5 was so much better than it. Quote
eeyore Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 took me a fair bit but settled with rages and a big blade having said that, the blurrs look nice for a bit of speed Quote
Sand-Yeti Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 I still own the 15 power kites (all foils) that I ever bought. Some, like my 3 Sky Tigers are antiques now and haven't been out of their bags for years. As improvements have been made over the years, I have bought better performing kites. I suppose I will never be totally content with my quiver as I will always be looking for the next generation of kites for even better performance. Quote
