Wernt they designed to wear on the inside to stop you getting a rash from your suit, so i doubt they'd make much difference to warmth wearing it outside...But of course for the fashion side

Visit Newquay in the summer months and see how many wear them into nightclubs thinking that they are a fashion item!

No way! Ha, why stop there, why not wear a wetsuit and harness too. Heck, these are pretty sexy eh?

i used to put a spare rashie over the top of my old wetty occasionally on really windy winter days, didnt really do much but it did keep a little wind of and stopped my wetty flushing quite so much on quick submersions. dont bother now cause i have a better wetty but anything helps when the waters down to about 5 degrees and the windchill gets below zero!

nudge - i have seen a few people wandering around wearing rashies mistaking them for fancy t-shirts!

Well, in the winter I have got a thermal one under... and a normal one outside, well for me it protects from the harness rubbing...

Just took a plain white one from Decathlon, so I am not trying to be fashionable whatsoever!

totally for fashion unless you have to prove you are a member of a certain club (ie the clicky club) by wearing a particualr rashie on top...

I have to admit it does look pretty cool - too cool for school - which is why I dont wear one on top nor beneath!! :D

REAL MEN DON'T WEAR RASHIES

HTFU !!!!!!!!!!!! lol :D:D:D:D

Take two guys.. One wears just his suit whilst the other wears shorts and rashy over the top of their suit, throw in a years worth of stones, sand, the occasional face drag and a rubbing harness and see which suit is still keeping water out after the year.

My last suit was £230, I am 45 so not a fashion freak but do like to look after my wetsuit at that price so wear long-shorts and rashy over the top.

The only downside is the extra clothing can feel restrictive at times.

Well I sometimes wear a 1mm neoprene rashie over the top and it most definitely cuts the wind chill down and seems to be more effective than wering it underneath. Really notice the difference when you take it off at the end of a session - instant chiilng occurs

bloody hellfire what the hell are you lot on?

the standard lycra rashie will actually make you COLDER when you wear it outside of your wetsuit because it draws a lot of latent heat from your body when the wind hits it as it tries to dry out

this is why wetsuits feature whacking great single lined neoprene panels over the chest and back - to keep you warm as the water cannot stick to it, which means it doesn't try to dry out (whereby it would sap heat from you etc...)

the THERMAL rashies are designed to be worn NEXT TO THE SKIN! sure you may notice a difference wearing one of them outside - but try wearing it underneath where it should be - it reflects the heat back at you - incredible!

i've seen the people wearing rashies in pubs and clubs - i wouldn't think they are surfers or kiters, more like 'ravers' appropriating rashies for their strange trends. a bit like flouro workmens jackets.

the wetsuit protection thing - getting dragged up the sand? seriously what planet must someone be on that they find themselves getting repeatedly getting dragged up the sand so they address the situation by wearing a bloody rash vest? if anyone tells you that's why they where them, tell them to spend the money on a lesson next time!

it's a case of monkey see- monkey do. some people watch surf comps and see people wearing rash vests so think that's what they need to do. other's see it and copy it, totally clueless that IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE WORN ON THE INSIDE

as for kiters, those that wear them probably are seeking waterproof MP3 players, wear shorts (or god forbid kite pants) maybe a camel-back and probably a 2 way radio...god knows. some people just like accessorising and bringing **** into the ocean just to look cool

rash vest over wetsuit has no function other than making your suit COLDER and making you look like an image concscious noob!

i used to wear a thermal one when I had a cheap wetsuit that dried out quick, it cut the wind and kept the wettie from drying so I stayed warmer, and also gave the option of upgrading a 3/2 to a 4/2 when it was colder.

It also kept the harness from rubbing(yes, i had a tear in the suit from the harness).

Now I have a proper wetsuit designed for kiting and don't need it anymore, unless my riding sucks so bad i need it to make me look stylish...

to all those that wear rashies over your wetsuits, don't get me wrong i certainly have nothing personal against it, and we're all kitesurfers and all in this just to have fun

but why o why? please can't you see that you are making us look like the rollerbladers of the ocean? even the windsurfers are laughing at us!

please, next time you think about putting your rashie OVER your wetty, STOP and THINK! ask yourself: do i want to send out a message to all and sundry that i am a fashion concsious kook who worries more about looking like part of the scene and doesn't want to be left out of my peer group, or do i want to me the strong man / woman athletic kitesurfer that i know i can be!??

rashies under the suit - it keeps you warmer and stops the rub!

Sooo I got it....

Wetsuit on first...

Then the boardies...

Then the boxers...

Then a rashy over the top... (surely this goes baggy and flaps around a lot...? especially when it fills with water and looks like a nappy)

I will try it next time I go out. I might even wear a bikini on the top half just to try and be ultra fashionable!

:D

DW you forgot the MP3 player (gotta have the latest sugababes /sam sparrow, or god save us - 'kooks' drivel on repeat!), camel-back (it's thirsty work y'know!), sea specs (ooh - melanoma!)

then and only then will you be accepted by the fickle, trendsetting 'local crew' at the beach!

so much the better if out of the water you can wear those 'surfer' glasses that make you look permanently piS$ed off too!

honestly sometimes i despair. rash vest over wetsuit? what the **** are these people thinking? shorts are bad enough - but ranting against that is like banging one's head against a brick wall. at least everyone knows full length (or below the knee) pants are the equivalent of the middle aged person wearing a baseball cap with the peak over one ear
