Well, its been one of those weeks. Got a lead on a buggy and I had too follow it up - much to the vexation of my wife

Anyway I picked up a very good nic Peter Lyn MK1 buggy with new wheels, tyres and hardness and a 6flight old 4m beamer III for $550. I think thats a good deal :D With my ozone imp quatro 3.5 probably not a bad setup for the days when its too windy to fly other things - and not bad for getting back into it (after 15+ or so years) on the moderate days.

I am busting to go down to the park - but with gale force winds, inexperience, and a strong sense of self preservation :dontknow: I think I hold out till the wind eases back this evening.

Required mods - a better seat , splash guard and padding, and maybe a bearing changeout. What else?

Shawn

Looking good Sean :good:

Welcome to the 'club' mate. Some side rail padding will be a wise first investment, PM (private message XK Member) Andyfly for these. He will sort you the good stufff.

Secondly, An upgraded seat will make her serve you well. Jason @ briskites can help you there. In the mentime .. next time you are at K-mart or Big W grab a length or 2 of hollow pool noodle and some 100 mile an hour tape :D

Stage 3 will be the GPS holder ... see Andyfly for this as well.

As for getting out straight away ..... I think you have made a wise choice :yes3: ... even some of the old salts are having extra thought about the skies in NSW today.

Hi Shawn,

As Marty said welcome to the 'club', there's nothing better than cruisin up and down a beach :good:

Hope to see you at Anna Bay end of Stockton Beach on the 17-18 Oct for the annual buggy bash "Kitetober", us Sydney blokes usually stay at Birubi Beach Caravan Park. It's well worth showing up and trying some of the latest gear stocked by Kitepower. If you give one of the guys at KP a call I'm sure they could bring a seat and side rail pads up for you, the pads with hold you more secure and a seat will just make it more comfortable on the longer outings.

Hope to see you at Kitetober

G'day Shawn,

AWSOME to see another NSW land kiter north of Sydney! Congrats on your new buggy purchase. Looks like a great little Peter Lynn :yes3: You could go and splash out on a new seat and some siderail covers but being an ORIGINAL (not too many still around) Peter Lynn I would kinda be inclined to leave it original. It will do the job nicely as it is, just dont go jumping it :good:

Good idea not to get out in this awful gusty wind, there is a fair chance that you could get yourself injured or worse - damage your new gear!!!

If your ever keen for a session, let me know. I am on the Central Coast and head up that way abit to kite. Would be happy to catchup and give you some tips and help to get you going.

As JD mentioned we are all (well alot of us) catching up for a meet on Stockton over the 17th and 18th of October. Great time to meet some awsome guys, get some ideas and have some good fun.

Hopefully catch you soon in a windy place somewhere!

It is actually a tad older than what we all call the MK1. But thats no biggy. I would start with a seat for sure.

Only issue is the side rails are a little different on yours but strap adjustments should overcome this.

At least you own a little bit of history and it still works.

Thanks Troy , looking foward to giving it a run. And its always better to be able to share the sillyness with somebody else.

Will plan to get there. Sounds like a great weekend. Only 30 or so minutes for me to get to Birubi and as long as any new ideas don't mean $$ the wife will be fine with it too. LOL.

cheers, Shawn

Thanks for the info Jas,

I will be booking up a seat and some pads for sure.

What do you guys use for a brain bucket. Is a pushbike helmet sufficient. I can't see me breaking any speed records in this nor will it be used for jumping, just mucking about in the park and on the beach doing skids and slides and stuff

Posted

Yep your pushy helmet is fine. Some guys use full face helmets, just whatever you are comfortable with.

With pads you could go the PL ones, Clarke rubber pads or roof rack pads.

Shawn, as Jason said the pushy helmet is fine, me and a few others all started with that

then as your skills and speed increase so will your head protection.

Be great if you can make it to the Kite-tober weekend, you'll meet a great bunch of blokes,

that are all there to have fun and enjoy this sport + it's free.

check out the pool noodles that have a hole through the noodle and that will generally do for a cheaper alternative padding

cheers

JD
