After seeing kiters out kiting on minchinhampton common, I decided that I wanted a kite. No ideas at first, all I knew was that I would have about £100 to spend and the ability to get into boarding at a later time would be good.
Shopping around on the internet it became clear that a beamer would be a good first choice, and after some live advive from the kite shop I decided on a Beamer 3.6m. Shopping around I eventually found one for £104.95.
So about three days later, a package arrives for me. It is a LOT smaller than I expected, and inside it is the beamer. Now this is where I feel I must make a small niggle. It had been descrobed as rtf (ready to fly) but upon unpacking it I found the lines and handles had to be attached. No big probs, just a touch annoying.
When I got it out into a set aside field on the brow of the hill, the kite got up easily, and me, being a total newbie crashed it into the groung about 4 times before I got the hang of it. This proves that it is a VERY tough kites, designed to take some serious abuse.
Flying this kite is a joy, easy to control, alot of power but I would think that for boarding etc. it would need about 17mph+ before things got interesting.
The kite is great value for money, and I would have no qualms about recomending it to anyone, whatever their ability.
Now I am waiting for some good winds, and then I shall see about getting a board. Expect a review of that as well.
