  1. Have another bump on me - fine example of a kite from a fine example of a human being, even if looking a little the worse for wear today Can't wait for the next howler to try it out...

    Pm'd you!
  4. left you a message on your original thread in for sale..
  5. Hi Jonboy, from a quick brainstorm, sounds like you need to do an analysis on factors affecting the learning curve during the standard BKSA/IKO kitesurfing tuition course. You could look at factors such as injury rates, types of injury, previous kite flying experience prior to the course, experience in other wind/water based sports, gender, amount of time taken to get up and going, conditions during the course (weather, tide, wind, flat water/choppy, etc), sub-aquatic terrain of the area the course was taken in (i.e. large area of shallow water/steeply shelving beach), experience of the instructor, confidence in the instructor, how safe/competent/in control persons felt during the course, how safe/competent/in control at end of course, how many have continued with the sport, etc. (last two and possibly others not relevant for the learning curve - depends what you want to look at). I'm sure you can think of plenty more.. From my inadequate grasp of stats, you'll need a min of about 20 factors for an exploratory factor analysis and the data could be collected by questionnaire on persons who have completed courses - there are plenty of those around I'm sure. pm me if you want to discuss more...
  6. I thought you'd be the last person to even contemplate going over to the dark side:eek: (with the exception of the lone wolf or mee that is:D) tell us it was just a wind up:rolleyes:
  7. without wanting to appear cynical, kitesurfing instructors are teaching to earn their daily bread, so if they were to cancel lessons every time the wind is in an unfavourable direction, that would mean a major loss of income. safety boat or not, can't say I condone it - but then that's economics for you
  8. whoa, you must be able to fly too.. were you that kid in the 'babycart' seriously though, have you considered the permanent brain damage you may cause:confused: I thought that as an expert martial artist you were only supposed to use violence as the final resort:confused:

  10. yup, trying to take over the world, coz their way's best... and when did the conversation turn to large waterfowl who like to honk and play 'follow my leader'..... (and look, no gaggle quips:rolleyes:)
  11. could be wrong, but you were probably watching chris c enjoying the more favourable winds from his usual haunt.... wasn't on a two line bar with a X-over by any chance??
  12. Pendine, not Pembrey??
  13. was under the impression that you had to be with a school to be in the harbour side of sandbanks:confused:
  14. Simon, all the best with the latest project - the sooner the better (my missus keeps letting go)
  15. Simon, Trick posted the thread to "muster an opinion", and "it's too complicated" is merely that, an opinion. It would, of course, be more constructive if those persons would offer some explanation as to why they have that opinion. Having said that, most people on this thread have given some form of explanation and are offering constuctive criticism. If you post your idea's publicly in order to get feedback, you have to expect that some responses will contain opinions that have no factual basis, meaning that those opinions are worthless, and they should simply be treated as such. As a person who likes to 'tinker' and experiment with new idea's myself, I am all for innovation, and you have my congratulations on coming up with a solid idea which has been put into production. But it is my opinion that safety is of paramount importance, especially when kitesurfing has a reputation (whether unfounded or not) of being one of the most dangerous sports. For this reason I believe that all members of the community have a duty to inform a person if they believe safety could be an issue. Without undermining Tricks creativity, the system he proposed was not going to behave in the way he had intended, which could potentially have caused him (and others) problems. It could also be argued, by the same rationale, pointing out that something appears complicated is a valid comment, because as a general rule, the more complicated something is, the more there is to go wrong. Ask any soldier. But I've had more than my tuppence worth.. And I think I've won the prize for 'most pedantic' (Trick, keep at it mate, Simon's pointed the way for all innovators, as well as indicating how long and complicated the process can be!)
  16. not to worry, I understood the wingspan meaning kite flat - I'm very impressed by how clear your explanation and diagram are. While you are right to say that when the ring is released the blue line will double in length, as half of it was already out, you have only added another half to the to the total length. For example, the wingspan is 10m, so A = 5m. (The blue line is 10m, folded in half.) When the ring is released it extends to its full length of 10m, but that means it has only travelled 5m, as 5 was already there. In other words, you've only got 5m doubled back, so that's all that can extend out. Sorry to be a pedant Either that or I'm going mad (probably too late for that!)
  17. if A = 1/2 wingspan then you will still be left with 1/2 the kite catching the wind, as a a 1/4 of the kite will still be folded over, if you catch my drift.(try it with a piece of string) it'll resemble a J shape and'll possibly cause you grief if the winds are strong, if only in that the kite may start spinning. A would have to = the entire wingspan to get the kite to caterpillar fully. also it would be better to have the red line join in a Y (or T) between the two Q/R shackles, in order to get them to pop simultaneously
  18. memberships worth it. at least it keeps the tw@s with their pickups off Pendine - scared the sh*t out of me when I was a down there first time and had one do handbrake turns right in my path. the guys at CLSC have done a sterling job at getting one of the best beaches in the isles back for buggy/board use, but it'd only take a few people to undermine the good work....
