  1. try doing up leg straps tight as first - this may help.
  2. The higher up your kite is the more wind it will see, it is also likely to be cleaner wind, especially if there are obstacles around.
  3. CR Cheers for help am hoping to have all set up to go for when i can steal dads workshop, resin, glass etc in mid dec was thinking of attaching fins with a fillet of epoxy filler rather then bolting through - just a bit of a pain if i snap one off i guess Dave
  4. this is a very good thread and has inspired me to have a go at building a ply board. Was hoping that i might be able to get some design tips as have not been on the water yet so not sure what i need from a board i'm 10.5 stone and would like to know what you guys reccomend for: length of board - think someone mentioned shoulder height?? width? rocker - presumably flat in the middle section and raised at each end? rail shape? taper?? and also anyone made any fins from ply or shaped glass as dont think i can be bothered to mould em cheers in advance... dave
  5. have just come back from a month in nz. had first lesson bodydragging at assaut in mt manganui and wasn't overlt impressed but guess that not very relevant to you. Kitesurfing is pretty big over there so i'm sure that wherever you go youll find fellow kiters and instructors. I came back with a guerilla which was actually much the same price as over here. Possibly slightly less expensive for other stuff - but i reckon you'll probably get a better deal over here as there seems to more more competition between net based companies with little /no overheads. Hope this helps and and iepect to be corrected with other replies as this was only based on a months visit where kiting was not a priority!!! PS any info on shipping stuff over there would be appreciated dave
  6. Interesting comments here so I'll add my piece - reckon boarding in high winds with fixed power kite is always gonna be interesting. Small kites will be quicker and so IMHO more tricky on the board - so i would suggest getting something without too much lift. I have a 3m buster as a high(ish) wind kite and when its too breezy for this i tend not to fly. Another thought - getting air with small kites in big wind is much more dodgy than with big kites in less wind...... Having said all this i would be interested to hear about people flying small depowereble kites- have heard good reports of the small fenzys....
  7. Have seen frenzys reinflate in the middle of the window with interesting consequences
  8. Fraisthorpe beach north of hull.... v. good when there is any east in the wind, can be a bit erratic in offshore breezes friendly crowd
  9. have a spare set of earings is the easy answer.... otherwise clean then out with petrol and add new grease occasionally (try not to damage plastic caps). They should start making nasty noises a while before they blow up.... could be quite nasty at speed i imagine.
  10. Well well looks like you might be buying two new kites then..... Happy birthday mate... d
  11. Have 4.9 and 6.6 III's both behave much better with a decent breeze - the 6.6 especially is difficult to fly in marginal conditions - as someone mentioned they need to be worked to stay inflated. Would be interested to hear if these problems still happen in say 12mph plus.... Also anymore on the bridle 'tweak' - Right just another thought my 6'6 seems to like having a bit of tension in the brakes - what do those of you that fly on two lines do with the brakes... arethey totally slack????
  12. Kite essentials do a bar for about £30 quid i believe. I fly a 4.9 and 6.6 blade3 on this happily. It has a metal ring attached to the middle for brake lines. I have added a pulley between the two break lines as per the flexi system and this then doubles a a safety leash. Pulley and bits of string another fiver. Doesn't look as nice as he flexi bar but does the same job for half the price. Another option if you wanna go two line is an ozone bar (£35) which has a strop with a quick release, whereas the kite essentials one is just a fixed strop hope this helps
