  1. Would loved to have been in the meeting when whoever it was decided to throw out 10 years of kite development and somehow manage to persuade everybody else into thinking it was a good idea. As for teaching i completely disagree yes the kite could be up and going in light winds, but how as Kraxy kiter suggested does it help teach setup and pack down and safety procedures. Id be pretty disappointed if i saw someone getting there first lesson on one of these, no safety and not really a proper setup (what happens when they come to unwrap their very own kite and discover it has more than twice as many lines). Might be good for some kite control but then again if your teaching in light winds on a 17m most things that size turn like a tank, better off just using a trainer foil (way cheaper too)
  2. Think with lack of 5th and depower id be reluctant to take it out in big winds. Better have epic relaunch but in light winds i often use a tug on my power lines to get back up an flying again! I do like the idea of the big sizes though but its quite a lot to shell out just to go skim boarding with not much wave riding going on in kent
  3. From everything ive read its aimed specifically at SUP's, so why release a 7m, who in there right minds is gonna choose and SUP over a conventional TT or Wave board in those winds. Also if you ditch it in high winds no depower no safety = dragged downwind. Might be fun on a skim in light winds
  4. Wonder how well these will sell, going back to two lines means no facility to depower hence smaller range and thus the need for more kites which costs more money! What about those sessions where the wind suddenly goes nuts, instead of just altering your trim, gotta come in get a different size out blow it up half hour wasted! Although certainly less lines to faff about and untangle!
  5. Trying to plat fog would be a more interesting pursuit
  6. Greatstone gots a proper long walk at low tide to!
  7. Knocked this bad boy up in about 5 mins out of some odds and ends! Specially for mick, bambinos and grannies will live to fight another day!
  8. Mick hence the recommendation to fit a safety system, if you want a bar safety system get a bar with a hole in the middle. Grab a peice of rope, through the hole attach break-lines to the rope above the bar and leash onto the other end beneath the bar. Home made safety cheap and effective.
  9. Agreed its all pretty logical once you have the basics of understanding how adjusting angle of attack affects performance. Shame flexi didn't go for the middle ground when they released the ion 3 kite would have been perfect out the bag instead of horrendously loose back lines!
  10. If you haven't already get in touch with the guys from boardworx on 01227 276 566 its the kiteshop in Whitstable if a local picked it up it may well have been handed in there! Best of luck
  11. Yeah si, i have a number of knots on both kites for different wind conditions coupled wit varying the line lengths and just started using the toggles makes it easy to hit the sweetspot, i fly the five line so no bridle to stretch, just my point is if you were to take the factory setting the ion 3 rear lines are to long and the ion 2 they are to short just thought it was weird! We seem to have digressed slightly!!! Dave did we actually manage to fix your problem?
  12. Take the next plunge and get yourself a landboard, adds so much more fun. With the bags of lift given by the blade you will be boosting into the air in no time. I flew mine on a bar so the only safety was to let go dust yourself off and chase the kite down the beach. If your flying on handles get yourself some kite killers for the brake lines as they werent in existence when the mk 2 was released.
  13. If you change the de power rope adjust its length until you feel comfortable ie not to long so that you can reach the bar when unsheeted (and the trimmer) but not to short so you have no depower! Then equal out your line lengths. Flexi do send out bars with a ridiculously big throw, you have to have arms like the bfg to reach the pull pull trimmer thing (luckily i do) have seen many, many people struggling to reach the trimmer!! Just as a bit of an aside my line lengths are all equal but when i tuned up my kite the Ion3 12.5m took about two inches of the rear lines and the Ion2 8.5m has got about 3 inches of the front lines! Not complaining as both kites are lovely to fly but just wandering if anyone can offer an explanation for this oddity!!
  14. Definitely got the wrong end of the stick on that one! Cheers for clearing that one up!
  15. Curiosity has finally got the best of me and thinking strong winds this weekend might give the low power toggles a try probably on the Ion2 8.5m. Just wandering if anyone has any experience if there is any effect on steering and depower and that the tuning setup will be the same for the low power toggles as it is on the high? Also how much power will i be able to spill of the kite using this setup. (I fly the five line setup) Cheers
  16. I reckon rideable from 4pm, tides not a huge deal at Minster in terms of launching and landing unless you insist on being able to stand everywhere for peace of mind, certainly no bad thing.
  17. That was the one. The shame of the go joe, might go as far as saying i would rather lose my board!
  18. You can launch at all states of the tide. Think the tides are earlier than that, 6.30 to 7.30 am ish for this weekend. If i was going to hazard a guess think more people will be going in the afternoon to catch the evening low water.
  19. Minster shouldnt take to long to get there, 3 hours either side of low tide you can stand for a long way out, but rideable at all states of the tide if your confident being out of your depth.
  20. Think it may well have been me that retrieved your board, if so your very welcome! All of the above try and keep your body stretched out to create a sort of centreboard effect and reduce the ammount you get pulled downwind
  21. The only thing i can think of is having a go with teflon tape commonly used to seal threads in piping, make sure everything is properly dry before application and that wrap the tape on the correct, hopefully will give the threads on the screws the extra purchase required (less messy than threadlock). Should be able to get some from a hardware store that sells plumbing supplies. This is purely hypothetical but pretty sure it cant cause any damage so should be cheap to try. Make sure you wrap the tape clockwise or it wont seal properly.
  22. Hey Georgeemp check out the manual for the ion3 clearly shows how to convert your bar from mini to full 5th setup. Not 100% about what you do on the kite end of things on the atom but imagine there are some fifth line toggles for your y bridle (double check that!) PDF Link: http://www.flexifoil.com/webdownloads/instruction_manuals/ion3_inst_web.pdf see pages 38 to 41 Hope thats of some use!
  23. Thinking of heading to Whitstable tomorrow if the wind holds up whats the deal with parking and the best place to set up? Also anything to watch out for? Also is anyone else thinking of heading there tomorrow (Friday)?
  24. Do the pro repair, cost you less than replacing a bladder when it pops through!! Can highly reccomend Andrew from allgoodfun he managed to do some fairly extensive repairs to my leading edge same day!
