  2. phew... Thanks to all for honest advice. A NAME EM, SHAME EM and PRAISE EM post re: kitesurf abroad would be very helpful.....but no doubt difficult to compile honestly.. Brian - had a T-Shirt off you a year or so back ! howz trix?
  3. sorry mate - EXPERIENCE has 4.......
  4. Lofty To be fair, I hear what you are saying - in terms of pushing ourselves to our own limits - and nobody should tell us otherwise. But you have to distinguish between an experienced flyer testing his/her limits, and a newbie who thinks a Kite is Kite (like my footie mates - who all think the idea of flying a kite is hilarious - cue Mary Poppins music). So, whilst its obvious that the Escort Mk2 culture is very much apparent where-ever you fly, probably all of the Kiteflyers I have come across show a sincere attitude towards fellow beach users. Dont forget, this is about ALL of us flyers. Check Adamski's post - he is right. MOre and more areas are being closed - and it could well be due to inexperienced flyers not understanding the implications of an accident. If I see someone struggling, I will go and have a friendly chat, see if I can get somewhere. If that fails, I'll knock the twat out. HAHAHAH. - last bit was obviously a joke. :D
  5. Hi there young man. Whilst it is not unexpected for The_Lone_Wolf to champion FOILs over LEIs, you've gotta take his (and others) advice here - no question. YES - some people use some LEIs on land as a low wind kite, but TRUST everyone when they say dont bother. Lose the idea that there is 1 kite for all, cos there aint - not at the recreational riders level anyway - and you WILL do yourself damage on land with an LEI. Get a foil - which one is debateable - what is not debateable is the question of LEI or Foil for the land - its GOT to be a foil. Not sure how experienced you are, and whether that comes from flying or reading about flying - but take care dude....people are getting hurt, and most of the time it should be avoidable. Good luck with your purchase. :)
  6. Cheers Guys. I think I'll inform my insurers that other company's are insuring these items, and if they decide it is still an exclusion, I'll simply change to someone who will. If you haven't already done so, do you think you could tell me who you are insured with, and include the level of cover again. Thanks again. btw - don't go 'pretending' to lose your kit, otherwise we all end up paying more ! ;)
  7. HI. I recently contacted my household insurers to inform them of my brand spanking new additions to my kit, (NAISH BOXER 16m, De-feur Factory Custom TT, Powerlock Bar), and was told that they wouldn't be able to cover them, as they are considered as 'craft' which is an exclusion within my policy. Therefore, if the nice locals decide to pilfer my house whilst I am away at some time, I am pretty much shagged. Looking for your experiences of insuring such expensive items, both whilst packed away in a box in the house, and also whilst 'away from home' in the car. Cheers all. J:p
  8. Like goldmiddleman, I wear the Da Kine Impact Vest with integrated harness. I picked mine up on the internet from KiteHIGH - worked out at about £100 (including duty). Very comfortable, floaty in the water, and most importantly - IT WORKS ! I was lifted out of the water to a stupid height (wouldn't like to estimate - it was just 'stupid') and came crashing down at speed. I reckon I would have smashed about 3 ribs had I not had the vest on (I landed on my side/back) - but instead I laughed all the way home..not just because it was one of the most exhilerating experiences of my life, but also at how stupid I was taking a 16m kite out in 25mph winds (beginner!). Recommended.
  9. zzzzzz......zzzzzzzz.......zzzzzzz.....zzzzzzz.....zzzzzzzzz....
  10. Can I come too mate ? I promise to baby sit at least once...
  11. and look where?
  12. hi. Just to echo JONS advice, I'd definitely get a little run around - well worth it - as the Island isn't huge at all, and you can get to the North from Jandia in about an hour if I remember rightly. Beautiful coast line and some mamoth winds - but I cant comment on the kite schools sorry. J.
  13. Thanks Rush. I've pm'd you my email address. Thanks very much for the info. J.
  14. Rush - would you be kind enough to elaborate further on your statement that your club was the only thing that stopped a total ban on kitesurfing for all S W Beaches.? More specifically, who exactly threatened to impose the ban for the entire region, and how did they plan on doing it. ie does one organisation have the legislative powers to do this ? Or was the suggestion made that the relevant local authorities would collaborate together to enforce the ban? Furthermore, was this threat an outcome of the terrible accident at Aberafon recently ? And finally, you state "We have been warned NO CLUB - NO KITESURFING". Does this mean that the BKSA is not recognised in S Wales? Perhaps you could set out the framework that has been suggested as the only format allowed to avoid the threat of a total ban. I would like to attend your meeting, but am recovering from surgery - so can't make it. I'd like to be kept as informed as possible about issues and developments in this area (ie S Wales), not just because I have just spent £1k on equiptment, but I also have a remit to work closely with senior envirnomental staff in the area at times. My last question (honest) is this ? How do we become a member of the club ? Where can I find further information about the way it will be run and its founding principles ? Look forward to hearing your comments.
  15. Well done Ross !! Excellent news to hear that you are up and about. Makes me feel really happy for you and your family.
  16. The very best of wishes to you, Ross and family..... The people of south wales are shocked by your terrible accident but pray that you will be strong and make a full recovery.
  17. Check out this website. Scroll down the page to the section for kiteboards, and there are a load of links to specific sites. good luck http://www.viser.net/~anthwind/Building/building.html
  18. Rasga.. I want to see more padded clothing which is designed better. i.e. tightly fitting, light, supple, strong..with super dense protection stiched in to the elbow, chest, forearm and shoulders, (for the top) and tail bone (I can't spell cox-itch! )knees and backside for the bottoms... without the cost of comfort (like most of the limited gear available at present imho)... almost a land (kiteboard ) and sea (kitesurf) version of a superbike riders' gear. Seasonal Variations would be a bonus. If this is around - please point me in the right direction..
